As primeras 200 linias.

Once upon a time long, long ago,

there lived a powerful witch

whose name was Ruth Hallow.

Ruth then had a child,

a beautiful daughter called Belle.

Who at the age of 18,

her mother's magical powers befell.

Then so it came to pass

that every Hallow daughter

will be taught the traditions and lore.

But only one of these daughters

will be passed down the magic of the Hallows before.

When this young Hallow became of age,

an amulet will be bestowed.

But what one does with such mystical powers

can never be foretold.

Through the generations,

as witches were shunned for their dark powers,

and magic was no longer renowned,

mystical amulet soon became a curse

to the Hallow bloodline

and was feared to be passed down.

Still, there must be a high witch

as it always has bound.

Now, that is our story,

so let us begin.

-Eve! Wake up and happy birthday!

Okay, this year, for my birthday,

I wanna sleep for another five minutes, okay?

Eve, you sleep too much as it is.

It's not healthy.

Plus, Dad says you have to wake up

and make breakfast.

Seriously?

Why do I have to be the responsible one all the time?

Because Zack still trips on his shoelaces

and I'm too short to reach the top shelf in the pantry.

Dad picked it out. Zack and I just signed.

There's 40 buck in there, so don't lose it.

Thank you.

I'll crack some eggs. You get ready.

Okay.

And why didn't you sign my card?

No Happy Halloween, no happy birthday, no nothing?

All right. Come on.

Come on, Barnaby.

Our fans await.

Good morning. Thanks for the card.

Yup. Happy Halloween and stuff.

-Did Dad already leave? -Yup. Just us unsupervised youth.

That's okay. I got this!

As a fully mature 18-year-old,

I can be held responsible for nourishing

-her hungry siblings. -Zack already had cereal.

-Two bowls. -Zack, that isn't a real breakfast.

TV commercials beg to differ.

-Dad says he needs help at the store today.

-As soon as you can, head over there. -Seriously?

Not on my birthday.

He knows the midnight show is tonight.

I'll come with.

I can help things

get done faster so you're free.

-No, Jessa, that's okay. -But I want to!

What am I gonna do here, watch myself lose at life?

Well, you can carve a pumpkin or something.

Mom used to love doing that.

We're far too old for such nonsense.

Maybe I'll just join you instead.

Jess, I have some big kid stuff

to do today, okay?

I promised Sarah

we'd go to the play and--

Plus, we need someone to stay here

for trick-or-treating, right?

-Zack can do it. -I can't. Got lacrosse practice.

-See you. -Fine. I'll stay.

-We'll do something later, okay? -Yeah. Sure. Whatever.

Hey! Aw, thanks!

This is in mint condition.

You can see there's no scratches.

The bottom still looks good.

Exactly, and it's good quality.

-So, what do you think, five, six dollars? -That works for me.

Oh, there's the birthday girl!

And she's only ten minutes late for work.

-I can finally stop holding my breath. -I'd prefer if you didn't.

-Cut her some slack. It's her birthday. -Right.

She's allowed to be a little late.

Cutting me some slack would mean

I didn't have to come in to work at all.

You're looking a little old

for it to only be your 18th birthday.

-Are you sure? -How'd you like to stop

having birthdays?

You know what, it is her birthday,

so I'm thinking maybe we should let her go.

-Aw, thanks, Wade. -Oh, no, I'm sorry,

I meant, like, let her go forever.

Like, fire her

because we don't really need her.

She's a terrible worker.

Come on, Wade. Don't say that.

Eve is essential to this operation.

Mainly because, well, she's my daughter

and I don't have to pay her.

Nothing says family togetherness

-like unpaid labor. -Come on, honey.

You gotta learn the ropes

if you're ever gonna take over

the family business someday.

Aw, Dad, sometimes it seems like

you never want me to leave.

Honey, it's not a family business if--

it is not run by the family.

-Right? That's crazy. -Mm-hmm.

First thing, a stranger buys the place

then we slip into obscurity.

No one knows where we are. The city crumbles.

Pandemonium breaks out, and the dead rise from the grave.

Dad, okay, okay. I'll stay.

-We're gonna get you therapy, but I'll stay. -Okay. Deal.

But, first, would you mind

boxing up that stuff over there?

-Sure. -And we will finish packing the brass pieces.

Does anyone read these books?

You mean those books in particular

or just, like, books in general?

-Probably not lately. -Yeah.

It's too bad because I am sure

that there is

some kind of lost treasure

in there somewhere.

A key?

It's to your mother's old trunk downstairs.

-Really? But when I was a kid you never let me-- -I know. I know.

But you're not a kid anymore.

I think you're old enough to handle it.

Happy birthday, Evie.

You didn't really need me for work today, did you?

Go!

You've only been waiting your whole life.

Thanks, Dad. Come on, Barnaby.

Come on.

She reminds me so much of her mother.

Yeah, I know, right?

Ambitious, graceful

stubborn, yet somehow, still beauti--

-Ah! -Cute. She's cute.

She's kinda cute. Sometimes. Um...

When she's not being mean to me, she's, um--

Wanna-- uh-- the books.

Wanna see what's in Mom's old trunk?

Come on.

This thing is rusty.

Wow! Got it open.

-It's my mom as a little girl.

"Hallow?"

I thought her last name was Smith.

Let's see what else is in here.

My mom must've gone

to some pretty crazy costume parties.

Oh, wow! Look at this.

What else is in here?

Look.

It seems so familiar.

Your mother used to wear that

when you were a baby.

You loved it.

You were always holding onto it.

Playing with it. You were amazed by that thing.

-I was almost jealous of it.

But I still do not know why she was so adamant

about you not having it before your 18th birthday.

Hey, hey!

What's wrong, honey?

I just worry that I'm starting

to forget her.

You know, the little things, like

how she used to wear her hair and, uh,

like what she used to drink when she was hot outside or--

what she used to do with her hands

when she was thinking.

Do you still remember that lullaby

the two of you always sang?

She would sing it to you when you couldn't sleep.

Then you would both start humming it.

And before you knew it, you were sleeping like a baby.

You know what?

Now that I think about it,

that was probably just an excuse

to get out of helping me clean up after dinner.

It still smells like her.

I mean, if she'd been stuck in a trunk for ten years.

Honey, listen to me.

I never want you to worry about...

forgetting her.

Your mother's unforgettable.

Dad, do you mind if I borrow some of these dresses?

It might be fun to wear tonight.
