Subtitle languages

Sync and encoding tips

Even the best subtitles need a quick check to ensure they line up perfectly with your video file. A few common adjustments can save you from frustration during pivotal spell-casting scenes.

• Frame rate matters. If your video is 23.976 fps but the subtitle file was created for 24 fps, you will experience gradual drift. Tools like Subtitle Edit let you change the frame rate of an SRT file with one click.
• First dialogue check. Jump to the earliest spoken line and verify that the subtitle appears and disappears in sync with the actor's mouth. A fixed offset (e.g., +500 ms) often corrects the entire file.
• Encoding for non-Latin scripts. Arabic subtitles must be saved as UTF-8 with BOM. Without this, characters may show as gibberish on many media players. Vietnamese also uses numerous diacritical marks, so UTF-8 is essential. Most modern editors default to this, but always double-check when downloading.
