What we don't know is why.

began developing a drug called GWB45,

an empathy modulator designed to increase or decrease

empathic responses in human subjects.

When Whitmore learned he was going to lose access

to his experiments, to his test subjects,

he flew into a rage.

to retrieve the inmates he believed belonged to him.

The plan was to extract his test subjects

and kill anyone that got in his way.

- But his tactical team encountered resistance

in the tunnels of the Pit,

and we now know some of his test subjects

are still unaccounted for.
