Alone

In "Alone's" most terrifying location yet,

ten participants face the deadliest predator

in North America.

-There he is, right there. -Grizzly bears.

-Hey, bear! -Got a lot of grizzlies here.

I'm going to have to live with them.

Go on, get!

Every second we're on the land, we're being hunted.

Holy , a mountain lion.

He's circling around my shelter.

Bone-chilling cold...

Winter is coming.

When you combine the wind with the rain and the cold,

this place could make the Arctic look easy.

Ah,.

And complete isolation.

You cannot hide from yourself,

mentally and emotionally.

Ah!

There's no place to go.

I am suffering from loneliness.

Who will survive?

Yes! Yes!

This could be the end.

I don't want it to tap, but I don't want to die either.

You have to suffer before you can succeed.

The last one standing wins.

At what point do I push the button?

This land is as wild as any in North America.

Chilko Lake is extremely rugged.

Landslides, rock slides, fires, winds,

cold, hypothermia, snow.

I mean like, there's a reason no one lives out here.

-Bye-bye, people. -I am alone.

The higher elevation is going to be a huge factor.

We're going to have to deal with subzero temperatures,

heavy snowfall, and extreme winds.

It has officially begun.

You're not at the top of the food chain here,

Black bears, cougar, wolves, moose,

but then the big one is grizzlies.

I mean, if you come up on a grizzly,

the next thing you know, you're in a world of hurt.

The Chilko region is @ massive,

salmon-spawning ground,

and there is just tons of grizzly bears.

Bear tracks, definitely within the last 24 hours.

So they're out there.

"Alone" is the ultimate benchmark.

With nothing but ten permitted items,

we have to build a life and survive.

I don't think there's anything more real

than what we're about to do. It's all on me.

It's just me and the wild.

Everybody is here because they have the physical skills,

but in survival, it's mental,

My heart is beating.

I am so excited.

Day one, minute one.

And so it begins.

Holy crap. I'm on "Alone."

It's hard to believe.

It almost brings tears to my eyes.

I'm so glad to be here.

My girlfriend, Brittany, and my kids

have sacrificed so much

so that I can come here and do this.

I won't waste their sacrifice.

So I found me some coyote tracks,

wanted to show you what they look like.

I've been doing this kind of stuff since I was born.

When most kids were riding skateboards,

me and my brother were sneaking off

to the neighbor's pond to catch fish.

Wyoming white-tailed jackrabbit.

My strongest skill set is big game hunting.

I've been hunting bears for quite some time.

I think I can safely say I have more experience

with bears than anybody on this season.

Looking pretty mean.

You need to respect them, but you cannot fear them.

If you fear a grizzly, they're going to know it,

and that never works in your favor.

Hey.

The reason I'm doing this is for the money.

I've got an eight-year-old daughter that I adopted.

I have a great girlfriend. She has a son of her own,

and we have identical twin girls together.

That money is going to allow me to spend more time

with my children.

It is going to be a very tough season,

but my number one goal is to win,

and there's nothing out there I can't overcome.

Shelter, hunting and fishing. Those are my three goals.

If I can do those three successfully,

then all I have to do is overcome the loneliness,

and I'll succeed.

I'm not going to do too much more exploring.

I've got to start thinking about dinner.

I've seen two grouse.

I've got to find me a good throwing stick,

in case I come across another one of them.

I want to do it better than anybody has in the past,

110 days plus.

To win this thing, you need willpower

because the suck is definitely coming,

and the only way you're going to get through it

is with enough willpower.

Look at this.

That's bear.

This is grizzly central. Every log I look at,

every round log has been torn into.

The bears tear into it looking for food.

We are in one of the highest grizzly bear populations

in North America. It's not a matter of if.

I know I'm going to encounter grizzlies here.

Shelter is a big priority.

I don't not want to spend too many nights

with this number of grizzlies

without a shelter that can semi-keep them out.

That's definitely a grizzly bear.

One.

It's pretty damn fresh.

Not a good sign.

A grizzly bear is capable of consuming you.

He can just simply end you,

and it can happen in a split second.

It just hit me how alone I really am.

Got a little game trail coming down this way,

running right down the middle of this little ridge.

I'm not looking for anything in particular.

I'm just looking to see what I have to work with.

You always hope that you get lucky with a site,

but it doesn't do any good to hope for the best.

You have what you have, and that's what you're going

to have for the rest of the time you're here.

Ooh, look at that. Nice.

The first forage.

Putting food on the table is my primary concern.

My body type is not built to hold weight.

The weight that I've put on is going to fall off quickly,

and once that happens, I'm not going to have those reserves.

So it's going to be very important

that I know the plants,

that I can hunt all the birds, grouse,

and that I'm able to catch enough fish.

Pretty good haul.

I'm under no illusions

that it's going to be easy to be out here alone.

It's going to be the most difficult thing

I've ever attempted in my life.

-Whoa! Dad's got it. -Yes.

I was a wildlife for ten years.

I've trapped every animal in Idaho.

You can't learn that stuff from a book.

That's experience. That's what I bring.

I'm primarily a video creator with a focus on primitive

and traditional archery.

Bow building is my passion. Deadly.

I want to do this because

it's a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity.

I don't feel like I need to provide anything to anyone.

This is for me.

There's things that you can only learn about yourself

when you face challenges like this.

Whoo!

That's what I'm looking forward to.

My family is the biggest thing that I'm going to miss,

but for me, the way to them is through this thing.

The prize money would be great.

We could set up a couple of college funds for the kids,

and it'd pay off our house.

This will be far longer than I've ever been gone before,

and as time goes on, it's just I'm going to want to see them.

But I can't imagine a scenario

that's going to cause me to tap that button.

The thing that separates the people

that are gonna tap early

from the people that stay out here

is fortitude, mental toughness

because it's going to get hard.

The people that go out thinking that they have
