For thousands of years,
they've been by our sides.
Protecting us...
...and comforting us.
Pets make our world a better place.
That's why we want to make the world better for them.
We're Mars Petcare.
Who doesn't dream of having superpowers?
But what if I told you
there are real superheroes living among us?
They could even be... your best friend.
And that... is where I come in.
And we're approaching the target, Ian.
We've got an...
avalanche pile and a debris pile.
We're going to put you down on top of the debris.
It's ten meters.
Five...
four... three...
two... one.
On the ground.
Clear the line.
They call me Henry.
Whistler Mountain Ski Patrol.
Along with my two‐legged partner, Ian,
we're your best hope in an avalanche.
It would take a team of people
hours to find you.
I can do it in minutes.
What do you got?
That's a good dog. Get him out of there.
That's it, get him out of there.
That's a good dog. Yes!
Hey!
Whoo‐hoo
Yeah
Whoo‐hoo
Yeah
Whoo‐hoo
Yeah
Hey!
Whoo‐hoo
Yeah, hey
Whoo‐hoo
Yeah, hey
Whoo‐hoo
Yeah
Hey!
Whoo‐hoo
Yeah
Hey!
Whoo‐hoo
Yeah...
Yeah, my life is pretty cool.
But this story isn't just about me.
It's about some of the most amazing,
real‐life superheroes
and what it takes to become one.
It's also a love story between you and us.
And if that isn't enough,
the hero of this movie...
is a puppy.
Yeah, she's cute.
She's the one on the end
without a collar.
The runt... in a litter of ten Dutch Shepherds.
She doesn't have a name yet,
but this little dog...
has a big destiny.
Enter the human hero of this story.
Her name is Cat.
I'm serious.
That's her real name.
You can't make this stuff up.
Climb the fence books and pens...
Cat's a fire captain from Miami
who saves lives in disasters.
She's come all the way to Michigan
in a blizzard to find a new partner.
A small partner.
I'm going to look at three puppies.
Three female Dutch Shepherd puppies.
That's a good girl, you're so pretty.
I'm looking for a puppy that wants to play with a toy
no matter what I do in the room.
Loud noises, different obstacles.
That kind of focus, that's what I need for Search and Rescue.
We don't notice any time passed...
Where you at? What you got? What you got, huh?
Female dogs. I like female dogs.
I don't know, I mean, it's just something that I prefer.
Boys pee on everything.
They do.
Speak into the camera.
I want it to just be a gut, overall...
feeling that this is, this is her.
This is the dog for me.
I can tell that we are gonna be friends
Good girl.
What do you think?
You think?
I have a name for her.
Halo.
So, let me go grab the paperwork.
Yeah, okay.
Hi, you want to come home with me?
Here, here.
Welcome to Miami.
Halo's new home.
And the headquarters of one of the greatest
rescue teams on Earth.
Florida Task Force‐1.
When the call for help comes in,
these guys leap into action.
And at the center of it all...
the K‐9 unit.
But here's the big question,
does Halo have what it takes to join them?
Over.
Hop up.
Step one... pick a puppy.
Bring her home with me,
let her get used to me and my family.
Here? Here? Good girl...
Take her wherever I can.
To work with me at the fire station.
Continue to play with her.
Have everybody else play with her.
And most of all, just give her time to be a puppy.
No, no, no.
No... here. Halo, here.
This way.
Halo.
Come on.
Good girl.
Come on.
‐ Oh, hey, Cat. ‐ Hey, guys.
Good doggy. Hi, good doggy.
That's a good boy.
This is where the dogs
of Florida Task Force 1
learn to find someone buried
after a hurricane or a tornado.
You never want it to happen.
You never want there to be that incident
where you're needed that badly.
But the dogs,
they are truly amazing.
Oh, yeah.
That's why we train so hard...
...for that one possible moment.
The story of how us dogs and you humans
started saving lives together
goes back hundreds of years.
Some think it began at sea.
This is Reef.
She's a descendant of some of the very first dogs
to save lives.
With her partner Ferruccio,
she patrols the coast of Italy.
Reef is great. She's an incredible dog.
She comes from a long line of water rescue dogs.
In fact, her grandfather, Mas,
saved my daughter from drowning.
Ever since then, I've devoted my life
to working with Newfoundlands.
Reef's ancestors
helped fishermen for centuries,
hauling nets and carrying messages from boat to boat.
But no one had any idea how amazing they really were
until one of you humans fell overboard.
And in that moment,
the superpower dog was born.
Reef is the ultimate lifeguard.
She has two coats,
a shaggy outer coat that keeps her dry
and a soft inner one that keeps her warm.
Underneath, she's pure muscle,
with a thick tail that helps her steer.
Forget the doggy paddle.
With massive webbed paws,
she can tow up to 50 times her weight
and swim for miles.
Today is just a training exercise,
but Reef and Ferruccio have saved many lives.
And they're inspiring a new generation of heroes.
You're looking at the latest recruits
of the Italian School of Water Rescue Dogs.
And class is in session.
The graduates of this school will go on
to guard Italy's lakes and beaches,
and this pup just can't wait.
Halo is now four months older
and already doubled in size.
She's ready to start superpower school of her own.
Sit.
Hop up.
Here. Walking.
Nice. Wait, wait.
Good girl.
