نخستین 200 خط.
Ladies and gentlemen, honored guests, and officers,
and enlisted graduates.
Today, we celebrate not only your achievements
as the first graduating class
of the United Earth Forces Military Academy,
but we celebrate the memories of the brave men and women
who have served in our planet's defense before you.
It was 15 years ago today that the officers and crew members,
of the SDF-1 so valiantly gave their lives
as they successfully repelled the final attack
of the Zentraedi invaders
who had terrorized Earth for so many years.
Those unselfish acts of heroism,
above and beyond the call of duty,
shall not be forgotten,
for they symbolize the greatest of human ideals.
Now, the torch is being passed to a new generation...
Sammie Porter, Lieutenant Kim Young,
Commander Claudia Grant, and Admiral Henry J. Gloval.
The task before you will not be easy,
but you are well prepared.
And as the descendants of the 70,000 survivors
of the Zentraedi holocaust,
you are well aware of the conditions here on our planet.
Many battle sites, including that of New Macross City,
have been sealed off to avoid radiation contamination.
Other cities have been rebuilt.
And although the feudal society which has evolved is unstable,
it is a society of human beings who have survived insurmountable
odds in the face of inhuman aggression.
It is a society to which you have all
pledged your allegiance.
That is the mission of this academy.
To provide training to those dedicated
to the protection of Monument City,
the United Earth Command, and the entire human race.
Your individual missions after today will vary,
but your collective resolve to perform those missions
must be as solid as that of those heroic men and women
whose memory we honor today.
Mankind's existence depends on it.
Before you are issued your duty station orders
and graduation diplomas,
I just want you to know how exciting this day
has been for me and how excited I am
for you young graduates...
Oh, I should have known better.
Now I feel even worse than before I graduated.
What kind of life can I possibly have in the military?
It's just not me...
-- -- Hmm?
Now, who could that be?
Okay! Okay!
Well, it's about time, Bowie! How you doing?
Mm, fine...
Sure. Private Grant, who do you think you're kidding?
Okay, so I'm depressed.
Thank you! And why are you depressed?
-- Why? -- Yes, why?
Uh, graduation I guess. Oh, I don't know, Lieutenant.
It's natural to be let down, Bowie.
We all are! Me, too!
You're just saying that so I'll feel better.
Believe it or not, Bowie, that's the absolute truth!
Graduation blues are as old as education!
-- -- Oh...
Hmm, not in the mood to listen to my jokes, are you?
Why don't we sing?
-- -- Well? Okay...
--Bowie, that's it! -- Huh?
I'll tell you a story. This'll cheer you up.
How my mother met my father...
Daddy was a Veritech pilot with the SDF-1 , and my mother...
Well, Mom was...
Why how dare you question my leadership abilities?
Just whom do you think you are?
I am the finest combat pilot of all the Zentraedi forces.
Your ego is going to become
the cause of your ultimate destruction, Miriya.
Heh, just as yours caused you to be downed in the Micronian sea,
and made you an object for ridicule
to all those who you command, Khyron.
I can see that because you have never faced a worthy opponent,
you believe you are something special...
But take care, Miriya,
for there is one aboard the alien ship whom you cannot best.
So, an ace aboard the SDF-1 ...
Interesting. I'd like to meet him.
The SDF-1 prepared to defend itself
and combat units under my mother's command
got into formation to begin their assault.
You see, Mom had already formulated a plan...
I am looking for one particular enemy fighter.
When he appears, you are ordered to withdraw
and leave his destruction to me personally. Is that understood?
It is understood and shall be as you wish.
My father, Lieutenant Max Sterling,
was flying under the command of Skull Squadron
leader Roy Fokker...
At last, our Commander arrives.
No cracks, hotshot. We're gonna have our hands full.
So just keep your eyes open and your trigger finger ready.
You got it, Lieutenant.
Affirmative, sir.
Okay, heads up!
There they are, you guys, at 11 o'clock!
Let's go get 'em! Attack!
Attack!
Now where is this great
enemy ace that Khyron fears so?
Scratch one.
Ahhh... There he is.
Now you die.
You devil.
You can't dodge forever.
Max, the base is asking you to retreat...
Right now!
What? They want me to retreat?
W-Wait, I don't get it! What's the big idea? Huh?
That bandit on your tail is trying too hard.
So what?
So, they want to find out what his game is.
You got it.
Let's get on with it!!
I think you could say, for a first meeting,
it was certainly... uh... interesting, don't you think?
This is it...
Run, little man, run.
Attention, the enemy has penetrated our defenses,
clear the streets, and take cover.
Take cover at once!
Huh?!
Hey, that's Max.
You wish to do combat? You impudent fool.
Khyron was right. This is a Micronian devil!
Open the overhead hatch.
We have to force the alien off of our ship.
Lose your taste for combat, my friend?
Return to base, Vermillion 3.
You've beaten him.
Not decisively.
Miriya will not soon forget this day, Micronian.
Their second meeting was even more interesting.
To continue the search for the earthman
she thought she hated,
my mother endured recloning in the Protoculture chamber
and was reduced to human size.
At a recreational casino, they finally met face-to-face.
Wow, look at that.
Points are piling up, Lieutenant,
you'd better get moving. This is great.
I always make more money than I can cart off.
--You left me behind. Huh? --
Max, look at that! And here comes more!
Mm!
Wow!
Hey, Boss, we're getting wiped out
at some of our most difficult machines!
Oh, boy, I knew I never
should have opened this kind of business by the base!
Come on, baby! Go!
--See? Nothing to it... -- Hmph.
With a little more practice,
you'll get better, then you'll start winning.
--Oh! -- What?
That girl, sitting at that game.
So what about her?
Isn't she incredible?
I have been seeing her everywhere.
Well, she is sort of attractive.
Maybe I can get her in a game with me!
Wow, she's great!
-- Huh? --Excuse me,
would you be interested in playing me a game?
From what I see of your winnings,
I think we'd be equally matched, don't you?
Are you willing to bet all that?
Yes, I am. This is absolutely terrific!
I know we're gonna have a great game!
How about if we start with level B?
Ah, is that all right with you?
-- Fine. -- All right, here we go.
There they were,
mortal enemies locked in make-believe video combat.
Whoops! Looks like I won that skirmish!
Should we go to level A? Huh?
Huh? Hmph.
Yes, let's go on to level A.
I imagine that'll prove quite interesting.
Hey, what's going on?
Some kind of hotshot playing over there!
Hey, Boss, I'm gonna put number seven's game
up on the screen so we can watch, all right?
Okay, put it up there.
This soldier possesses remarkable skills...
I'm telling you, Miriya, my experience has proven
the Micronians possess but one superb pilot!
Is it possible my search is over?
Could this be the pilot of whom Khyron was speaking?
Boy, is she beautiful!
