Pharrell: It starts with Blind Auditions,
where a person's tone needs to cut through.
Blake: Listening to those footsteps climb the stage,
I can't wait to hear what they sound like.
Adam: Just one of us turning around
gives them this opportunity to have success,
and that's an amazing thing.
Gwen: You're just listening,
and then someone comes along that can be an actual star,
and it's just a whole nother level.
Whoo! Daly: "The Voice"...
You got it! Daly: Is back.
Yes! So happy!
Daly: Veteran coaches Adam levine and Blake Shelton
have been joined by superstars
Gwen Stefani and pharrell Williams.
I love this show, man.
Yay! Daly: And the newcomers came to play.
I'm, like, totally screwed now.
I know what to do with that voice.
Daly: All four coaches were more heartfelt...
That was amazing.
And more enthusiastic than ever.
I'm gonna write you a love poem.
Is that what we're doing now? Yeah.
I think I might have the longest career.
When I was your age is when I started listening to her records,
and they were fantastic.
That's how bananas I am.
B-a-n-a-n-a-s.
Oh, my gosh!
They're ganging up on us, Blake.
Whoo-hoo!
Daly: Here's where their teams stand
after night one of the Blind Auditions.
Yes!
Daly: Adam scored two passionate artists.
Damien and Clara were both really, really smooth,
but also there was a lot of feeling there.
I have the best team. Yes!
Daly: Blake added two country vocalists.
Blake: I have two solid country singers on my team,
and I'm gonna start getting some different types of artists.
Daly: Gwen landed her first two eclectic singers.
Both have their own distinct sound already.
Those are the kind of people I really want on my team.
Ooh!
Daly: And pharrell picked up two soulful artists.
Pharrell: I have people singing from their hearts and connecting,
so it's not just technique that I'm looking for.
I'm also looking for connection.
Aah!
Daly: Tonight, the Blind Auditions continue.
You just made my day.
I want you on my team. Yeah!
Daly: And our coaches pull out all the stops
to build the strongest teams.
I want you.
You can't cross that line.
You have no chance.
This has zero to do with you.
Let's not focus on Blake. I like your whole vibe.
Feel like you're, like, my little brother.
I don't know anything about baseball,
but I know he just stole a base.
He just shut you down bad, Adam.
Daly: Night two of the Blind Auditions starts right now.
Let's check in with our coaches backstage
at universal studios, Hollywood.
I know all of your strategies.
He comes as a super nice guy, but then all of a sudden,
he turns it around and his talons come out.
And then you're, like, Mr. charming.
You hit them with the accent,
and then he has this quick twist
where he, like, digs into you real quick. Oh, yeah.
The person gets distracted, and then they buy into it...
And then she always has the secret credit card
called queen of awesome.
So the only thing that's left for me as a personality,
just be nice.
Don't give me that crap about "all I have left is this."
That is bull crap and you know it. You guys do. You guys do.
So, Blake, should we try today? Ooh.
Okay. We were just trying to be nice.
Daly: As our coaches make their way to their chairs,
let's meet our first artist...
An aspiring singer and mother
who hopes "The Voice" will jump start her career.
I'm danica shirey.
I'm 25 years old, from York, Pennsylvania.
I grew up listening to a lot
of Whitney Houston and Mariah Carey,
and I like to sing r&B, soul, just anything with soul.
Have you had, like, a breakout moment so far?
Actually, I got the opportunity to sing for the Apollo...
Wow.
When I was 15. That's amazing.
When I stepped out onto the Apollo stage,
my heart was in my throat.
A lot of people were like, "oh, wow,
it's a little short white girl. What is this?"
They actually put me in the adult category, and I won.
What did you do after that? I came out to California.
I recorded a five-song demo.
Wow. And these are all the sorts of things
that could make one believe
they're really making it in music.
Right.
How difficult has it been since then?
It's been hard for a long time.
I was a daddy's girl growing up,
and I was never nervous singing my entire life,
and I feel like it was because I had my dad there.
He was diagnosed with cancer three years ago.
He ended up passing away.
My dad was pushing so hard for me my whole life to do music,
but since then, I haven't been performing.
He's here, and I can feel him, but it's harder without him.
Hug.
I have a 4-year-old daughter,
and right now, I am just a stay-at-home mom.
I love "The Voice."
I have watched it from season one,
and I'm like, "you know what? I can do this, too."
I can take that time and be away from my daughter
and know that it's all gonna turn out awesome.
I want this for danica very badly,
and I know it would make her so happy,
which would make me very happy.
So...
Danica: I just really want to provide a better life
for my daughter, aslin.
I want her to look back at this day and say,
"hey, my mom did this for me and I'm proud of her."
I need a coach to believe in me
because I haven't stepped on a stage in 3 years,
and I'm just gonna take a deep breath
and just go out there and give it my best.
Christopher: There she is. There's mommy.
Oh, my gosh! Whoo!
All right.
Oh, my gosh!
That is gorgeous!
Thank you.
Wow!
Oh, my gosh!
She did it.
Congratulations.
Thank you. Thank you. Whoo!
Wow.
Woman: Whoo!
Adam: Wow!
What is your name?
Danica Shirey.
Danica. Danica. Danica. Danica.
Adam: The audience didn't even clap as much as they wanted to
because they were kind of all in shock
and their jaws were on the floor like ours were.
Gwen: Thank you.
Blake, I'm literally really angry at him for not turning around.
But I'm also happy 'cause that makes it
easier for us to talk to you.
Yeah, you have a chance now, so you should be real happy. Yes.
Yeah, anyway, these two that I love so dearly,
I'm a huge fan of what they do.
However
I'm like, "where are you going with this?"
I believe... I'll tell you where.
I've been doing this a long time.
I've won the show multiple times,
and I think that you have one of the best voices
I've heard in a long time, so...
Thank you so much.
Thank you. That means a lot to me.
Just remember that Adam didn't win last season,
just in case you were... Ohh. I'm not...
