Today's reading will be from the book of Psalms, Psalm 56.

"Be merciful unto me, oh God, for man would swallow me up."

My enemies would daily swallow me up,

for they be many that fight against me, oh thou most high.

What time I'm afraid I will trust in thee.

In God I will praise his word.

They gather themselves together, they hide themselves,

they mark my steps when they wait for my soul.

Shall they escape my iniquity

and not anger cast down the people of God?

Thou tell us to my wanderings,

put down my tears into thy bottle.

Are they not in that book?

When I cry to thee, then shall my enemies turn back.

This I know for God is for me.

In God will I praise His word,

in the Lord will I praise His word,

in God have I put my trust,

I will not be afraid what man can do unto me.

Thy vows are upon me, oh God.

I will render praises unto thee

for thou has delivered my soul from death.

Will not thou deliver my feet from failing,

from falling that I may walk before God

"in the light of the living."

my God in Him will I trust.

Surely he shall deliver thee from the snare of the Fowler

and from the noisome pestilence.

He shall cover bee with his feathers,

and under his wings shall thou trust.

His truth, shall be thy shield and buckler.

Thou shall not be afraid for the terror by night,

nor for the arrow that flieth of by day,

nor for the pestilence that walketh in darkness,

nor for the destruction that was if at noon day

a thousand shall fall at thy side

and 10,000 at thy right hand.

But it shall not come nigh thee.

Only with thine eyes shall thou behold

and see the reward of the wickedly

'cause thou has made the Lord, which my refuge,

even the most high thy habitation.

There shall no evil befall thee,

neither shall any plague come nigh thy glory.

Or he shall give the angels charge over thee

to keep thee in all thy ways.

He shall bear thee up in their hands lest thou dash,

thy foot against stone.

Thou shall tread to upon the lion and adder.

The young lion and the dragon shall thou trample

under the feet, because he has set his love upon me.

Therefore, will I deliver him?

I will set him on high because he has known my day.

He shall call upon me and I will answer him.

I will be with him in trouble.

I will deliver him and honor him.

With long life will I satisfy him

"and shoot him my salvation."

Brothers and sisters, that is true.

Evil walks among us.

And there's only one way to handle evil.
