'Millions of tourists flock to Niagara Falls, New York each year
to witness the breathtaking views
of one of the world's most famous waterfalls.
Sitting less than two miles away from the Niagara waterfalls
sits this massive abandoned neoclassical-revival-style building
which covers nearly one half of a city block
called the Electro Magnetic Sanatorium.'
'Before this sprawling complex was built,
a two-and-a-half-storey Queen-Anne-style brick masonry residence
called the Electro Magnetic Sanatorium
resided where the hospital is today.
It was operated by Professor BB Barnard,
reportedly used electro-therapeutics on patients suffering
from chronic nervous and mental disorders.'
'This sanatorium would be taken over
by the Sisters of Saint Frances in 1907
and later became known as The House On The Corner.
Over time, The House On The Corner could not accommodate
the growing demand in patients,
and so the Franciscan Sisters developed plans
for a large-scale modern hospital,
which began construction in 1912, and opened in 1914.'
'From 1914 until 1965,
the building was a functioning hospital.
The 114,000-square-foot interior was also constructed
out of fireproof reinforced concrete and masonry with concrete floor slabs
and thick tile wall construction.
The dense construction provided
fireproof and soundproof accommodations for patients.'
'In 1966, the building became a nursing home
called St Mary's Manor.
It would house 104 senior residents
until it closed in 2003 and sat vacant ever since.
The building is primarily made of red brick,
but what makes it unique to me
is it sits on a raised limestone foundation.'
'It's a theory among many paranormal investigators
that limestone has the ability to absorb and release
electromagnetic and psychic energies.
The presence of limestone could possibly explain
why one site may be more haunted than another.'
'For the past 18 years,
this building has remained a Gothic architectural tomb.
Throughout the years, locals residing in the neighbouring homes
have frequently spoken about seeing strange light anomalies
and shadow figures moving among the many broken windows.'
'I will be the first person ever to conduct a paranormal investigation
inside this massive building that has witnessed
the death of many people
during its 100 years of being in operation.'
'I will try to determine for the building owner
if this location is actually being haunted by those who have passed away
by allowing these entities residing here
to physically attack me during my investigation
at the Electro Magnetic Sanatorium.'
I'm a real estate developer.
I grew up in western New York near Niagara Falls.
I was looking into purchasing the St Mary's building.
When I first looked at this building,
I fell in love with it when I got to the roof and I looked
and I could see only a mile and a half away
the mist of Niagara Falls.
I do know a little bit of the history of Niagara Falls,
the power plants,
this water that is driven from the Niagara River to Lewiston
under the ground here.
There's energy, there's limestone, crystals,
it's on the Onondaga Escarpment.
There's a lot of energy in this neighbourhood and this city.
The history of the building, being a hospital,
being an elderly care,
a building built on top of another,
there's been a lot of babies born,
a lot of people have died, a lot of tragedy.
When you consider all of the energy of this area
and you put a hospital on top of it,
with the life and death,
maybe there is something paranormal.
Maybe this building is haunted.
I went by myself up to the third floor,
and that's when I immediately felt something.
Like that feeling you get when your back is to an open basement door.
And I heard some whispering,
a woman's voice whispering,
and I heard some children laughing.
I'm a sceptical person, I've been through a lot of old buildings,
and I've never, ever had an experience like that.
In doing my research on the building,
I found that there was a lot more to the building
than just the real estate part of it.
And people have seen shadow figures
and heard voices, and after my experience,
before I purchase this building,
I wanna know if it's haunted.
I'm really excited.
This is our first time inside this location.
It's a huge abandoned hospital,
and I'm really excited because we're the first ones ever
with exclusive access to investigate this abandoned hospital.
So, we're gonna start our exploration right in here into the darkness.
And for this location, it's so abandoned,
so off-the-charts
that I'm definitely wearing a mask in here to protect myself,
because there's a lot of dirt, debris, stuff like that.
And we're gonna be exploring this whole place
to see if it's truly haunted.
Don't fall in the hole.
So we're in the emergency area right now
of what was once the hospital.
This was a sanatorium, but then turned into a hospital.
So, right now, we're in the emergency room,
and you can see where the old bed's still sitting here.
They left it when they abandoned this place.
And I wanna see if anybody in here.
Are there any patients?
Doctors?
Are the patients here that need help? I can help you.
You can speak to me,
and I can give you a voice to be heard.
Look at the old bed right here.
Am I close to you?
(GHOSTLY WHISPERING OVER GEOPORT CONTINUES)
Are you in here?
Look at this room, Justin.
Geez!
Is this your old locker right here?
(GHOSTLY WHISPERING OVER GEOPORT CONTINUES)
Are we close to you?
That's it?
Where do you want me to go?
Can you try your best to try to communicate?
I know it must be hard.
Is this your chair you used to sit in?
You can try really hard to speak to me.
If you're a patient that's here.
(GHOSTLY WHISPERING OVER GEOPORT CONTINUES)
I don't know. I thought I saw something over here.
Are you down there? Did we just see you run by?
Are you over here?
I thought I saw something run by this way.
Whoa, that was loud! Right here.
You just slammed something over here?
It slammed so hard right over here. This area.
You heard it come from this direction?
I thought I might have saw something run by.
Man, that was crazy.
That was so loud. You could hear the sound just go boom! Right over here.
Where did you go?
Are you up here?
Are you over here?
Did you just hear a woman crying?
I heard someone upstairs go, "Huh," like it was a moan.
Was there a lady that just cried?
I think I might have heard it just again, did you?
'Justin and I both hear a woman crying.
We decide to head upstairs
to try and see where this female voice came from.
The further we get into the hospital, the more intense the energy becomes.
We start to feel as if something is following us.'
Let's go in here.
They're toilet chairs. Yep.
This looks like an old hospital room.
Is anyone in here? Can you make another sound?
This feels terrible. Yep.
Can you make another sound?
They're old bedding for the hospital.
Can you try to make another sound up here?
Are you back here?
There's a floorboard there.
Did you hear that woman's voice that came through?
Justin, a woman's voice came through.
It was that woman we heard crying. It just... Another cry right here,
but it came through the audio this time.
Think she's following us?
Is that lady following us through here?
I think we're on the side where the ladies were kept.
And I think birth would be done up here,
for children being born.
Um...
That's crazy. We just heard a lady cry come through the device,
and just a little bit ago,
we heard a lady downstairs just echo through crying.
Both Justin and I heard her voice.
And I think we're in the section of the hospital right now
where women would come here to give birth when it was a hospital.
So, if there's a lady here, it's OK you can talk to us.
You can speak to us.
(GHOSTLY WHISPERING OVER GEOPORT CONTINUES)
Where are you?
Nurses' section.
You don't have to be scared.
Man, this place is crazy.
Are you down here?
Is there someone sitting here?
Are you in your seat?
This is how they would weigh people that were...
if they had, you know, if they couldn't walk.
They put them in this chair and weigh them. Look, one of the original ones.
Man, it's... it's creepy over here. This room.
Man, this is so off.
