Le prime 195 righe.

Being a star quarterback in the NFL,

it's not easy to do it on a big stage,

but we prepare our whole life for it.

Everybody wish they could be an NFL quarterback.

You know, you get paid all the money.

You got the ball in your hands every play, and you get all the notoriety.

I think we need to understand the quarterback position as a whole.

This is a very exalted position.

You know, many are called, few are chosen.

And Brett Favre was definitely one of the chosen ones.

Brett Favre... we treat him differently.

Brett Favre was a cult-like, iconic figure in the pantheon of sports.

What a throw! Favre put it right on the money!

He won MVPs...

Brett Favre, the league's most valuable player

for the third consecutive year.

...in the Super Bowl.

It's been a long road, but we're here. We wanna thank all of you. Thank you.

Having that allure, people put him on a pedestal.

That's what separates the boys from the men, a throw like that.

Some people might say he was a football god.

MVP! MVP!

But, I mean, look,

there are a lot of reasons why you might question Brett Favre's inner goodness.

- - Oh! Oh!

Brett!

Allegations that he sent lewd texts and photos

to a New York Jets sideline employee.

Why are we shocked a player wanted to sleep with you?

You were selling sex.

Because I think there's some level of professionalism

that's expected in the workplace.

He was like that guy at the bar that just could not get the hint.

I'm going back to the hotel. Would love to have you come over tonight.

He starts to go through life thinking, "I can do whatever I want."

At what level does that stop?

I mean, I'm not getting into that.

In the life of Brett Favre, not everything is what it seems.

Maybe we shouldn't be surprised that he got caught up

in a federal welfare misappropriation scandal.

"If you were to pay me, is there any way

the media can find out where it came from and how much?"

Text messages connect the plan

to divert millions of dollars in welfare funds

to pet projects of Hall of Fame quarterback Brett Favre.

The rules are made for the people who don't have power.

They're not made for wealthy, famous people.

In certain circles, he's still an icon.

That doesn't mean that he can't do wrong.

He did do wrong. I don't know how he sleeps at night.

People don't want most of that stuff to come out.

People want to have their heroes.

We didn't make it up, Brett Favre.

This stuff was reported. Where the hell have you been?

When someone shows you who they are,

believe them.

Honestly, in Green Bay,

this is it.

- -

This is what you hook your seat into.

This is what you schedule your weddings around.

This isn't a big market,

but the franchise is just historic.

For the second straight year,

Coach Vince Lombardi received the championship trophy

from Commissioner Pete Rozelle.

- Second world championship. - I hope this is a habit.

To have success here as a Green Bay Packer, it's special.

Go, Pack! Go!

Good morning, Green Bay Packer fans!

Let's go, baby!

I was part of the Packers' radio network for over a decade,

and my first entry into Wisconsin was my very first weekend here.

So I went to church, and I'd never seen a pastor of a church

do a Catholic Mass

wearing a Packers beret and a green-and-gold sash.

This is where so much history has taken place.

This is where Lombardi walked.

What the team means to the people of Green Bay...

Really, it's Wisconsin. It's... it's a nation.

The football history here is so incredible,

and they were the team of the '60s.

The Steelers were the team of the '70s. The Niners were the team of the '80s.

And the Packers faded from greatness to basically mediocrity.

And mediocrity might be being nice.

When it's a franchise that is so identified with the town that it's in,

a 20-year slump can be pretty deflating.

So when they're dominant again,

the level of hero worship is gonna be next level.

Brett Favre has desire to play college football

and is just waiting to prove his talents on a major college level.

Well, right now, LSU, Tulane, and Southern Mississippi

is looking at me pretty good.

I'd like to play ball at one of those colleges.

Uh... it's gonna depend.

I don't have the credentials as the rest of the quarterbacks,

but, uh... the size is helping me.

My speed's not that good, but I think I can do it.

You only had to see Brett throw a football one time

to see the arm strength,

and, uh... there's just very few human beings

that can do what he could do with a football.

His freshman year, they were playing Tulane at home,

and they were down by two touchdowns at halftime.

Coach Jim Carmody called on Brett Favre

in the third quarter.

Number four displayed his leadership and God-given talent,

and the Southern Miss legend of Brett Favre was hatched.

Here's a 17-year-old boy coming into the game.

He's a true freshman,

and not only to do real well, but to lead them to a victory too,

it was just tremendous, tremendous.

Probably the most exciting thing that I've ever had happen to me.

From day one, he was a competitor.

You wouldn't have known that he was a freshman.

We used to have this play we called four-back hide,

five- to seven-yard crossing route.

He threw the pass like he was throwing a 70-yard bomb.

Feel like my fingers are still hurting from that pass.

Favre being chased.

Throws deep, completes the pass.

That's all Mr. Brett Favre.

He only knew one speed, and that was he threw fastballs.

This guy was breaking fingers,

breaking pads,

could've probably thrown through some walls.

They began to call him, uh... the gunslinger.

I'm telling you what.

Better be ready for the ball if you're a receiver downfield.

He can get it to you no matter where you are.

Touchdown, Southern Mississippi.

More than a hundred family members, friends, and media

camped out at Irvin and Bonita Favre's home

for the broadcast of the 1991 NFL Draft.

I had talked to Bus Cook,

Brett's agent,

in the weeks leading up to the draft,

and he felt certain he was gonna go in the first round.

Well, we'll see in the coming years who's the best quarterback, and I think...

- Yeah! -

And I'll prove...

You know, I'll prove to everyone that I am the best.

I think everybody that had watched him play in college

thought, "Surely, he'll go in the first round."

We are back, live coverage,

six and a half hours here of the NFL Draft.

Brett Favre, four-year starter for the Golden Eagles at Southern Miss.

Thirty teams passed on him in the first round, you know.

Atlanta has selected Brett Favre, quarterback, Southern Mississippi.

So Atlanta gets a favor by selecting Brett Favre.

When you go to a Falcons game,

you might not notice any differences in Brett Favre.

After all, he's still wearing black, still wearing number four.

However, there's one big difference. He's not playing.

Matter of fact, he hasn't taken a snap all year.

When he was down there in Atlanta,

Jerry Glanville didn't even wanna let him play.

From their own 12, Favre.

And it's intercepted by Andre Collins.

Touchdown, Washington.

Didn't call him Favre. Called him Country.

He didn't know what a Cover 2 was. He didn't study film. He...

They just figured, "Ah, he's just a backup."

I originally began working in professional football

in 1963 for the Oakland Raiders.

- - I was hired by Al Davis.

Thirty-seven active years in the NFL.

When I went to Green Bay, everybody said, you know, "You're an idiot."

"Why would you go to Green Bay? You don't have a chance up there."

You know, in those days, when other teams wanted to discipline a player,

they sent a guy to Green Bay.

I got there around Thanksgiving of 1991,

but they were in sorry, sorry condition, sorry shape.

I flew out to Atlanta to watch the Falcons play the Packers.

Before the game, Ken Herock is running the Atlanta operation,

and he says, "Hey, Ron, if you wanna see Favre throw,

you gotta go down there and watch him now

'cause when his team comes out, they won't let him take part of that."

And it was there that I found out that I had a chance to get Favre

and, uh... went to work on it right away.

There wasn't anybody, I thought, that could compare to him.

I mean, he had everything you would want in a quarterback.

The Falcons did not realize what they had with Brett.

I mean, it was one of those things where, you know, I was in it a long time,

so you have an opportunity to eventually get one right.

And I got one right.

Living in Green Bay has been an adjustment for this Mississippi native.

It is as cold as they say it is, but the people here are very nice,

and it's... it's a lot of fun.

Um... Plus, I guess, when you win in this town, it really goes crazy.

The 23-year-old Favre is a bachelor.

He has a three-year-old daughter, Brittany, who lives in Mississippi.

It started 1992 game, Cincinnati Bengals.

I was the starting quarterback Brett Favre's first year here in 1992.

Shoot, the first time we had the ball in the first quarter,
