You promised to tell me a new fairy tale
The fairy tale I'll tell, Nazeli. I did not invent myself.
It's not even a fairy tale, but a legend.
Just look and listen.
Listen.
Every sun-drenched hill, every fold of the earth
seems to wanting to say
I'm a part of the legend
So would you believe that this dead desert
once was the same kind of blooming valley
like hundreds of other valleys of our country.
All of them sparkled, rang and sang
and grown with a fragrant meadow carpet
from edge to edge.
Under this withered away tree was a song of love.
That these sad ruins were a
rich and beautiful city.
In this city, green gardens grew,
fountains rattled, markets sizzled
with everywhere the buzzing sound of people,
and joyous children's laughter.
Beautiful women slowly descended to the water
along paths to the cool, deep river.
Everything has been there and everything has been lost.
In fear people fled, seeking shelter in neighboring valleys.
Songs were silenced, fields and gardens burned under the sun.
No, not an earthquake or a war....
It was Rishat, the king of stone mountains, the prince of all monsters
It was him who stole all the water of the valley
and hid it in a deep lake in the mountains
under the very clouds.
And it was said to Rishat
that to the release stolen water and help the people
one would need a Horse, a Sword and a Magic Carpet,
Friendship, Courage, Labor and...?
The faithful horse will point the way to water
The sword will crush Rishat with one blow.
But without the magic carpet, one never can return the water to people, never.
So to seal the fate of the insidious Rishat
over seven mountains, and seven abysses,
there it is an impenetrable terrible tower
And in it, you see, just look, - the captive horse is kept prison.
The captive sword is held,
And many girls are kept prison.
The villain kidnapped them from the neighboring valleys
and turned them into stone for the fact that they sang sweet songs
and tried to weave the magic carpet with an image of the happy valley.
Rishat hates sunshine, bright colors and joyful work
He knows they will bring him death.
But not yet the magic carpet is woven
The valley is sad and dead.
This narrates the legend.
