Macross 7 is a massive emigrant fleet in search of habitable planets in the galaxy.

The journey for such an unknown planet has taken a long seven years so far.

In the seven residential ships, there are Earth-like environments...

...including towns, parks, rivers and hills, allowing the people to live their lives as normal.

City 7 is the central residential ship in the fleet, and is also its political center.

There is also the factory ship, Three Star...

...the resort ship, Riviera...

...entertainment ship, Hollywood...

...and the agricultural ship, Sunny Flower.

...scientific research ship, Einstein...

...and the United Forces training ship, Begin Hill.

They are all connected by the space highway, Milky Road...

...allowing the people to come and go freely between them by bus and automobile.

The journey of the Macross 7 Fleet through the galaxy continues even today.

Good morning and welcome to Coffee Break.

Today, we look at the rock group which appeared out of nowhere, shot to the top...

...and the many mysteries surrounding them, Fire Bomber.

For today's guests...

Now, to introduce our two guests.

Fire Bomber's promoter, Miss Hojo Akiko.

Could you please tell us how Fire Bomber was started ?

Well, let's see...

For instance, their leader Ray's encounter with Basara...

...must've been a major reason for starting Fire Bomber.

That's right, Ray Lovelock was in the United Forces...

Let's look at Ray's life before his fated meeting with Basara.

In the year 2030, the Earth United Forces Valkyrie Squadron, Pink Pecker...

...encountered remnants of the Zentraedi army while on routine patrol.

The young Ray Lovelock was part of this unit.

Ray Lovelock, considered an elite pilot with a bright future...

...was surrounded by Zentraedi units, yet still managed to fight his way out.

But...

Stephen !

Ray witnessed the death of his close friend, Ensign Stephen, by enemy fire.

Having lost his best friend, and feeling the emptiness of battle, Ray left the military.

Ray could no longer find purpose in anything, and wandered aimlessly.

"Why am I alive ?"

"There's no reason for me to live..."

Ray was in a deep depression.

And then, one day...

Ray encountered a young boy.

The boy had not eaten for days, and was thin.

I'll sing you a song, then you give me something to eat.

Saying this, he began to sing.

Although the boy seemed tired from lack of food...

...there was a fire in his eyes.

And what's more, there was a mysterious energy to this boy's singing.

Hearing the boy's song, the will to live was reborn within Ray.

This boy's song had given a ray of hope to Ray's life.

That boy was the young Basara.

And that was how Ray and Basara first met.

What do you think of the dramatization, Akiko ?

Well, I haven't heard about it directly from Ray...

But it seems a bit too melodramatic for the two of them.

In any case, it was the young Basara's music which gave consolation to a desperate Ray.

Ray was moved by Basara's sound and saw promise in his music.

And Ray saved young Basara from the streets.
