All new FBI agents are required to recite

an oath as they graduate from the academy at Quantico.

It's not just a bunch of words,

it's the reason I joined.

and believe it's worth defending with my life.

In 1983,

the FBI sent me to Taiwan

to assist in the murder investigation of an United States citizen.

It was there that I met Ming,

a man who had endured an injustice

that would force me to reassess my Constitution,

and the very foundation of the government in the U.S.

He was well liked and respected,

he taught economics and apparently he was writing a book.

In fact, we were just celebrating Henry's tenure the night he was killed.

Coming into this country as a young man,

an expert in number theory

and now being honored with tenure in what I feel is record time.

He was very well known in the Chinese community,

their newspapers, etcetera.

Can you think of any reason why someone might want to kill him?

Apparently, he was a very outspoken critic

of the current government in Taiwan.

I can't imagine Henry's economic theories

provoking anything more than esoteric argument.

But his wife suggested something?

Well, maybe she was scared shitless of this mob.

Well, I'd say that's understandable.

She did mention two suspicious characters

who were hanging out across from her house at the park,

and this was confirmed by a neighbor.

I saw two guys in hooded sweatshirts on bikes.

Anything more specific?

They looked Oriental.

I couldn't see them very well,

but they would sit on their bikes right over there smoking cigarettes.

I saw them twice,

both times as I was going to work in the morning.

It just looks like the work of amateurs.

Yeah, or made to look that way. What do you think they were looking for?

And did they find it.

On some level,

I have been preparing for this for many years.
