Night, my friends.

Hey! What are you doing?

Get off! Off!

And we're sure that this girl's mother can be trusted?

It's car pool, Deeks. Doesn't require a security clearance.

- Did you run a background check? - No.

Did you run the driver's record to make sure it was clean?

Like, how do we know she's not a road rager?

Who isn't a road rager in L.A., sweetie? That's true.

Come on. Car pool gives us a chance

to do stuff for ourselves, such as jogging.

Yeah, but driving Rosa to school,

like, listening to podcasts. Yeah.

Or introducing her to '70s rock is, like,

the highlight of my day. No, me, too.

But on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays, you still get that.

Right. So Tuesdays and Thursdays are just gonna suck.

Are you saying that spending time with your wife sucks? Oh!

No, no, I would...

I-I would never say... How dare you? Uh-huh.

Well, good, because I really feel like

we need to spend more time together.

Because spending all day together as superheroes

fighting crime... that-that's not enough for you?

We're not superheroes. Eh.

I'm talking about actual alone time.

Just you and me. Like romance.

Shh. Do you even remember what that feels like?

We don't need romance. We're married.

How can you say that, honey?

Because romance is a scam to get to what we already have.

Okay, stop. What are you talking about?

I'm saying that romance is based on lies. Think about this.

You wear clothes you would normally never wear.

You put on perfume and cologne

to lie about how your body actually smells.

Deeks, I'm... And don't even get me started

on bouquets, because you know what? The flowers are dead.

You know who murdered those flowers?

Romance. This makes me so sad.

I had no idea that you felt this way.

See? More lies, and at least now we're married,

and the charade can stop. No, I'm sorry.

I don't want to go through life on autopilot,

just going through the motions, okay?

It's not healthy.

No, that's fair. Okay?

You're right. It would be... it would be nice to maybe go back

and do some of the fun stuff that we used to do. There it is.

Okay. You know what? We could go to Leo's taco truck.

I love Leo's taco truck.

And that wine bar that we love so much. Yup.

We could see a movie. Oh, a movie. See, date night.

Not a date. Just the fun stuff we used to do.

Unbelievable.

No, Dad. That was Korean barbecue.

This is Japanese food.

Of course there's a difference. Uh...

I can't talk about this right now, okay?

We'll talk a little later. It's gonna be a great dinner, okay?

All right, bye.

Admiral, good morning.

Agent Hanna. Just the man I need to speak with. Yeah?

You want to join me and my dad at Benihana?

I'm sure he'd love to have you.

I'll think about it.

In the meantime, there is

something important I need to discuss with you.

Okay. What about? Your partner.

Agent Grisha Callen.

He was sent TAD

this morning to assist the San Diego office

in a Russian gun smuggler case.

I got the memo.

And he is in a precarious situation.

Something go down? Is he okay?

In my opinion, no.

But then there are countless others who seem

to think that a lifelong commitment

to one person makes sense, so perhaps I'm wrong.

Oh, you're talking about his wedding? His wedding.

His dealings with Pembrook, the whole thing with Katya.

I mean, Agent Callen is spinning several plates in the air.

And you're worried he may drop one.

Well, as director of the Office of Special Projects,

I must be certain that all bases are covered at all times.

Well, if there's one thing about Callen,

he knows how to take care of business.

Yes, but if I have

to leave town to handle my own business,

I am not convinced that Agent Callen is

in the right headspace to take over for me when I'm gone.

So, what are you thinking?

I'm thinking I need you to serve

as the acting supervisor of OSP

if and when duty calls.

I appreciate the offer, Admiral.

I'm not a desk guy.

I-I belong in the field.

I hope you understand.

Oh, I do, but Callen may not like this, especially

if they send in some blue-flame outsider.

Uh, it'd be a lot easier for him to accept you in the position.

Oh.

Can I think about it?

Well, I don't need an answer right now,

but I do want you to seriously consider this offer

and what it would mean to you

and, more importantly, to the team.

Hey, can I ask you something?

Oh, no, not video game trivia again.

How often do you think about the future?

Every now and then, I guess.

But, you know, I try to stay present. Why?

Lately, I just been obsessed.

You know, especially after

target practice when my brain is just on ten.

Doomsday prepping again?

Of course I got my end-of-the-world kit,

but that's not what I'm talking about.

I'm talking about visualizing

exactly what I want in the future.

Oh, like a vision board? I love making those.

No. I'm talking about something concrete,

not some magazine cut-outs

put up on a poster board.

I'm talking about an actual ten-year plan.

Okay, okay, yeah, I feel that.

You know, no judgment to people who do, but, uh, what is it?

You know the denim brand that I invested in?

Mm-hmm. All right, so I'm seeing just crazy returns from that.

Right? So, I figure, after about a year of savings,

I could buy a home in L.A.

That's great. Then,

I'm gonna invest in another start-up, but this time

something I believe in, something that could...

actually change the world.

Yeah, passive and conscious income. Smart.

Yeah. Thanks.

Is there any chance

a special someone inspired this new direction?

Come on, you know you can tell me.

Bell saved you. We got a case.

Oh, thank God.

Yeah, you got lucky this time.

What do we have?

So, late last night, a retired Navy reservist,

Commander Dr. Darryl Howard,

was nearly stabbed to death at his lab at Whitley University.

He's a tenured professor of entomology there.

A bug scientist.

I know. Y-Yeah.

He's currently in a coma right now at Cedars.

Most of his research deals with pesticides.

They ransacked his lab.

LAPD's down there now

trying to determine exactly what was stolen.

- What's our connection? - Well,

Dr. Howard often works on special projects

for the Office of Naval Research.

Admiral Kilbride is looking into what he's currently working on.

What's more pressing is, this time last year,

a similar incident happened at Glenforest University

in one of their labs.

And gallons of pesticides were stolen.

Let me guess. Bombs.

Yes, the stolen pesticides were used to manufacture explosives

which were traced back to a bombing

at a city council office in Downey.

Six people were injured.

Any suspects? Well, the investigation's

still ongoing, but FBI thinks

that maybe the members of this extremist,

anti-government group could be behind it.

The Patriot Mission Society.

Any surveillance cameras in the lab?

No, but there was an exterior camera that caught

a masked suspect entering and running out.

I don't know how I'm supposed to ID anything off of this.

Well, he seems to be carrying a duffel bag.

It would take gallons of pesticides

to blow up anything substantial.

They'd need several duffel bags.

Not necessarily. So, Dr. Howard has access

to what the EPA classifies

as "severely restricted use" chemicals.

Can't find those at your local home improvement store.

Mm-mm. Some are so highly concentrated,

it would not take much to produce a powerful weapon.

Okay. What about Dr. Howard's family?

Well, I located a Layla Lewis.

It's his wife, or ex-wife,

ex-domestic partner, estranged wife?

It's complicated.

Okay. Have Castor take her to the boatshed.

Have Kensi and Deeks meet them there.

Rountree and I will hit the crime scene.

And, Fatima, I want you to find out everything you can

about this Patriot Mission Society.

Copy that. If they're planning another bombing,
