Well, we're really proud of him and everything,

but I'm, just still the same old,

carriage, the same old thing.

What kind, what kind of boy was Glen, Mr. Campbell?

Ah, he was just a good old country boy.

to thank for this too, and mainly, but,

but to the CMA, but I'd like to thank

Tommy Smothers for giving me the chance to do

a good country summer show.

He really brought country into the mainstream.

The record he's got out, well,

I guess is the biggest record he's ever had,

called Rhine Stone Cowboys.

Somebody told me he's on his way to selling two million

copies of one record.

it's strange enough that's my first number one record.

In 1968 the entertainer of the year was Glen Campbell.

I know I haven't changed, I don't think.

Like when you go back home, the people treat you so different.

He grew up dirt poor in Arkansas.

Learned music on a Sear and Roebuck guitar,

and became one of the biggest recording stars of all time.

As a much sought after studio musician,

he recorded with everyone, from Frank Sinatra,

to Elvis, to the Beach Boys.

If he's a bit as successful as everyone says he's going to be

we may have something going.

The rhinestone cowboy himself.

end to this man's talent?

It's like you're looking straight at the camera.

So we're looking front unto the brain.

In this particular shot

we're looking at this

Because that's the part of the brain

among others that's involved with memory.

That butterfly on there on purpose?

The bl... The butterfly is sort of water space

in the brain, okay? It's like where... - Okay.

ventricles, where the fluid is. The spinal fluid is, okay. - Yeah.

So, right in here

is a structure called the hippocampus.

And that's vital for memory.

And unfortunately, in Alzheimer's disease

it starts to shrink.

And so we can see here on this MRI scan that yours is

smaller than it used to be.

It used to occupy this whole space.

But now it's considerably smaller,

so this is what we would call atrophy.

So if we look at these bottom pictures here

the ones that uh, have the blue background.

If the brain pattern was normal...

It would be solid dark blue, like this color in here.

Yeah. - And so things in that part of the brain are not working

quite normally.

This indicates that in all likelihood

your difficulties are due to Alzheimer's disease.

This is, we're able to do that now.

This is a fairly sophisticated new test

that tells us that that's

the likely underlying cause.
