This is the story of a gentleman
Long long ago when Pakistan violated agreements and attacked India,
The Indian Army also returned the favour on Pakistan with full might
It was then, fearing the breakout of war,
One Kumaran, a soldier, developed aches and fever,
returned to his hometown, carrying his gun.
The best medicine for Kumaran's intermittent fever,
was known only to his wife Rajamma.
"With a touch of kohl for the eyes"
"And mangalsutra around the neck"
"I was looking for you at the door steps"
"The time when groom arrives"
"for adoring him , I knitted a garden of jasmine flowers"
Like all women, Rajamma also realised
the most pleasant pain in the World is Labour pain!
After that long wailing and wait,
finally the gentleman was delivered
As the new born was lifted by a fatso nurse,
and baby's hand accidentally brushed, against her breast,
the nurse proclaimed then,
Watch out, this guy is a bit naughty!
Parents look at their one - two year old kids and call out...
Little thief, lovable rogue etc.
Kids are neither thieves nor rogues
After getting them used to these names, if they really become one
The entire blame is on the kids
That practice didn't get overlooked here either..
Mother's lovable rogue..
It was in the beginning of the 70's,
the practice of combining the first two letters of parent's names,
to name their children, started around Idukki
Thus the baby born to Rajamma and Kumaran was named by Kumaran as...
Rajakumaran...Rajakumaran.. Rajakumaran
Our Gentleman hails from near Rajakumari Village in Idukki District.
Thus he grew up as Rajakumaran of Rajakumari .
But the nick name that the nurse gave when he was born,
never left him!
Once, as he walked back home from city after buying rice and kerosene,
marked the beginning of the incident
A blue tailed yellow bird
Eventuallyjust to win the game... at least to say I touched it
our gentleman followed the bird on to a huge tree on the river side
But our gentleman failed to notice Januchechi bathing right below
To check if anyone is peeping into her bathing area
Toddy-tapper Nanappanchettan who regularly hid and kept watch saw our gentleman
It was that day he practically learnt the science lesson Vasanthi teacher taught.
Grains sink to the bottom and Kerosene stays afloat on water
In fact was exemplified and understood that day
The irony is, till then the neighbours who always were at loggerheads
for many things joined hands to give our gentleman a new nick name.
Hey Bath-scene-Kumaran! We came to know, boy.
Hey Bath-scene-Kumaran! Watching Janu's bathroom scene?
As kids, there will always be some kind of nick names
But the nicknames our gentleman got were all the bad names.
As years passed, our gentleman would keep earning new names..
One of his names matched with the famous bird of our village...
What more to say!
Even if a high breeze were to blow, it would be for our gentleman to get into trouble
The currently dwindling group of eve teasers that day gave our gentleman a new name
Here is Jabbaran!
Hey Jabbaran!
According to villagers, one who steals panties and brassieres is called Jabbaran!
If there were to be any case related to women in the Village,
Our gentleman's name was sure to popup somewhere in their conversation,
All these things were never part of his thoughts.
Whenever he heard people talk of what he never thought about,
Tears would unknowingly roll down,
caused by the hurt...
For people, one who cries while talking is a thief!
Thus people made him a thief too.
Oh.. Amidst this forgot to mention something
When China declared its intention to attack India, Kumaran chettan returned home again
In the War that broke out later, Kumaran chettan became a martyr!
8 months after Kumaran passing away, our gentleman got a brother
Since he was born on a specific auspicious day,
Rajamma gave him a fascinating name..Mayur (matches a profanity)!
When called too long or short, it would sound too abusive, did not strike her
As his little brother grew and whenever he was mischievous,
People said that he could learn all this only from his elder brother
And when Rajamma also said it's all because of his bad stars,
most of his bad names disappeared
But because of these bad names our gentleman remained unmarried.
Mayur actually has the colour of a dark wart"
He got a very fair girl as his wife...
Now he has a daughter..Little Molu
She is very fond of stories
And our gentleman loves telling stories
Last night he told a story
The story from here on is not for telling, but for sitting back and watching
Gentleman's Story
Good mangoes! Do you like to have?
I'm not referring to Mangoes. I'm talking about him
Him? Who?
Little Molu is to sleep with brother tonight.
Let her.
How about enjoying ourselves then?
Come on! Brother has still not married
I will not let my Little Molu sleep with him.
Talk softly
His stories are wide spread in our town.
Mayur etta..Sorry, please go and get her child
Brother may hear, talk softly
Let him. Nothing stays in my head.
I talk openly whatever I feel
Look at the kind of story he is narrating! Hen and Fox!
A story teller!
Eh.. That smile itself says more than enough"
Go and get her.
"Gentleman is a Star"
It will upset anyone who hears it
I too was upset
At the right time, I got a transfer to Kochi!
When I missed the morning bus, I got your car.
This 3 hours of journey from there to here...
Would have become extremely boring,
if we hadn't kept speaking, isn't it bro?
Though a tragedy, the episode is quite interesting to listen.
We didn't realize time fly, isn't it George?
That is true! Didn't realize we had reached Kochi!
It's the nature of us, people from Idukki.
We keep talking and the talk meanders all over!
Do you know why?
We are termed as meanderers, having settled there finally
That really sounds interesting, Raja
Not Rah, I'm Raflakumaran
Oh Kumaran! Rajakumaran!
What brings you to Kochi, Rajakumaran?
In Kochi, to train teachers"
Without meandering,
if you could cut into one-third and summarize it will be better
Hey brother, you are a real comedy!
Bro, I'm a teacher's trainer! I just summarized it, ok!
Where do I need to drop you, Rajakumaran?
Over there! At the flat round that corner!
Stop 'chard-Awesome!
See you then-This is my card
When you drop in at Thrissur, give a call
You can also call us for your marriage
That is a Superstition in my case!

Still.. -Yes
But that is my mom, sir.
Okay see you.
What to do dear!
In the midst of the hectic life that is how it is for all!
I am also craving to see you

Idukki? I've been there on an excursion once.
