Oshin the grandmother of the Tanokura family

residing in a small town on Shima Peninsula left home...

Hitoshi her son was busy preparing

for the grand opening of the 17th store in his regional supermarket chain.

Oshin was responsible for the prosperity the family currently enjoyed.

The family members couldn't believe that Oshin

the matriarch would disappear on such an important occasion.
