Izzy's Koala World

It's one of my favorite times of the year on the island.

It's baby koala season!

Lots of little koala babies

have been hanging out with their mums in the trees.

But because it's been so hot and dry, koalas need our help now more than ever.

It's okay. You're safe with us now.

Mum, Dad, and I have been rescuing lots of koalas

and bringing them home to our koala hospital…

…where we treat them

and release them back into the wild when they're ready.

There's the tree!

Right now, we've got StormBoy,

Mango,

Muffin and Cinderella,

Miss Piggy…

and lots and lots of babies!

Chompy, come back!

Teddy, where are you going?

This is the koala nursery.

And we have four baby koalas that we're caring for at the moment.

They all lost their mums.

So they need each other to learn from and to get koala cuddles.

This is Chompy.

He went from being our smallest baby to our biggest baby.

He's the boss.

This is Teddy.

He's one of the shier babies.

This is Pumpkin.

She's our tiniest baby.

She's small, but she's feisty.

Twinkle.

Do you have yourself a Pumpkin?

Twinkle's really patient

and she acts like a mum to the other babies.

We are very, very busy at the moment.

Um… Excuse me, Chompy!

Four babies of this size is the most that we've ever had.

Having youngsters in care is always...

always takes a lot more time because we have to feed them milk.

We've got to make sure they've got the freshest leaf.

We have to work as a team to make sure that everything is done,

and we just need to make sure we're doing the right thing.

Oh my goodness!

What is going on here?

What a whole bundle of trouble.

-Here, Iz, I'll give you the milk. - I'll do Twinkle.

Okay, I will do Teddy.

Oh my goodness! Come on!

-Here it is. -Pumpkin, can I please borrow Twinkle?

I won't be long. I promise.

Why don't you go annoy Chompy?

Oh! Go and annoy Chompy.

Oh! You little monkey!

I have to go kind of fast with Twinkle because she laps it.

Excuse me, Chompy, where are you taking Pumpkin?

Don't forget you have Pumpkin on your back

and you're squishing her!

Chompy, you are so naughty!

This year, baby season, it's gone very, very dry and very hot.

In the wild, the babies,

normally they'd be clinging on to Mum all the time.

But being in the full force of the sun,

mums are getting really exhausted and sometimes the babies get lost.

That's when we need to help them.

We've got our hands full at the moment.

I'm not really sure we could handle any more than this.

Oh! We've had a Pumpkin down!

I think everybody's ready for a nap.

-Should we get them back to bed? -Yeah.

- Hey, Izzy! - Yeah?

We've had a call about a baby koala.

Oh, okay!

- Go! - All right. Stay there, Loki!

It's so hot out there that we need to get cracking.

- Where's the koala? - We think he's near the Sphinx.

That's a really long hike. We've got to hurry.

And the little baby is still separated from the mum

in the middle of the heat.

He's not safe where he is.

We can't really leave him there any longer.

It's way too small to survive on its own.

Let's go.

It's a long walk. It's at least two and a half kilometers.

- - It's really dry.

- It is dry, isn't it? - It's so dry.

Is the lady who found him still with the baby?

Yeah, they're waiting for us.

It's been now away from his mum for most of the day

and it's really stinking hot, so he's going to need a drink.

We're almost there.

-Hey! - Hi!

He's over here.

It's tiny!

Oh, yeah.

- Thanks ever so much, ladies. - Thank you!

All right. Oh. No worries.

Hi! It's okay.

He should definitely still be with the mum.

Oh, yeah, definitely. He's so tiny.

He's smaller than any of the other babies we have at home.

It's okay.

Just cuddle him. That's it.

-I've got you. - That's it.

There you go.

I think we really need to race him home now

and go and get some milk into him.

Do you want my hat, Iz, to keep him in the shade?

- Yes, please. - You could put my hat over.

He's grabbing on to me pretty tight.

That's a really good sign.

Yeah. I think he must be trusting you now.

Let's get this baby home.

I think he's really dehydrated because it's so dry and hot.

This one really needs milk.

All right, Iz, I'll get him some milk.

This one's so tiny and it was just so very hot up there.

He needs milk.

If I can't get him to take milk, I don't know how he's going to go.

Mum's a wildlife vet. She's gonna give you some milk.
