After Hitler came to power in 1933, most of the German-speaking population

of the Sudetenland – the mountainous border region of Czechoslovakia –

wanted to join the Reich.

Czechs and Germans who had been neighbors now became enemies.

A person cannot choose the era into which he is born.

My story began before the war, in 1938.

Hitler demanded the annexation of the Sudetenland to Germany.

Here on the isolated farmsteads, relations between Germans and Czechs

reached boiling point.
