He said: "A man of his calibre cannot remain ignorant of Islam."

It is high time, brother, for you to make amends

for the great benefits you have missed.

Hasn't the Prophet been quoted as saying

that Islam erases everything that preceded it?

How about Safwan and Ikrimah?

They cannot forget their fathers and still want to take revenge.

No one is happier to meet you today than me,

except God's Messenger (peace be upon him).

We received the news of your arrival.

All praise be to God for guiding you to the truth.

Khalid is not one whose intelligence would lead him anywhere other than to Islam.

Welcome to you, Abu Sulaiman.

Messenger of God, I bear witness that there is no deity other than God,

and that you are God's Messenger.

You have seen how I fought in those battles stubbornly turning away from the truth.

Pray to God to forgive me.

God is Supreme. God is Supreme.

I bear witness that there is no deity other than God,

I have the same request as Khalid. Pray for us.

Ever since Muhammad's immigration,

we suffered no greater loss than losing Khalid and Amr,

Quraysh's military commander and its greatest mind.

We have become fewer in number.

The meat of one camel will feed us all.

Or we are like a fox in his hole:

pour a bucket of water in it and he will come out.

I fear that before a year is out,

all the people of Makkah will have followed Muhammad.

If this is how you assess the situation, what keeps you here?

Are you waiting until he comes in and we cannot resist him?

Revenge for my father, and a hatred that I cannot suppress.

How will I feel if I am walking among Muslims and they say:

here is Ikrimah Ibn Abu Jahl?

If we were to embrace Muhammad's faith, it will be like we kill our fathers anew.

We will disown them, their practices and religion.

We will then worship, reading a Qur'an which denounces them.

Alas for Khalid!

What will he do when he reads that Qur'an which denounces his father?

Or would he leave out some of it?

Is there is anything of the Qur'an that may be left out?

I have something in mind which I need to achieve.

I do not think my heart will be purged of the traces of ignorance unless I do that.

Escape! Here is Bakr on the attack.

Who did supply Bakr with arms and men,

helping them to kill the Khuza'ah men at Al-Wateer?

Was it you, Safwan? - No, it wasn't.

Did you, Ikrimah? - I wouldn't do that.

People have come to know that Quraysh have supported them in this disgraceful act.

You know that Bakr became our allies in the Al-Hudaibiyah peace treaty,

while Khuza'ah became Muhammad's allies.

Now you have violated the treaty.

If Khuza'ah seek Muhammad's support, he will certainly support them.

What are you going to do?

My Lord, I am seeking Muhammad's help;

appealing to him by our long standing alliance.

Of old, you were young and we were your parents.

Then we embraced Islam and stuck by you.

Grant us strong support, may God guide you.

And call on God's servants to flock in support.

Let God's Messenger be among them in full clarity;

When facing aggression, he shows his anger.

Heading a host like the sea with high waves.

The Quraysh have broken their deal with you,

and violated your solemn treaty.

They appointed men to watch us at Kida'.

They treacherously attacked us at Al-Wateer,

and they killed us when we were engaged in prayer.

Your appeal has been well received. So be content.

The Prophet has said to you:

You shall have support, Amr Ibn Salim.

Abu Bakr, we all know your high standing with Muhammad.

Will you appeal to him, by the kinship between us,

to overlook this error,

confirm the peace treaty and extend its term?

I will not do that.

You, enemy of God, want me to intercede for you with God's Messenger?

By God, I will kill you this moment if he orders me to do that.

If I could find nothing to fight you with other than dust, I would still fight you.

Go away from me. God will settle matters between us.

Ali, you are my closest relative here.

I have come for a definite objective.

I do not want to return empty handed.

Will you take my case to Muhammad.

Well, Abu Sufyan! God's Messenger has made a decision

and none of us can speak to him about it.

Well, will you tell this son of yours to declare peace between our peoples,

and he will be the greatest Arab master for the rest of time?

My child is too young to declare peace between people.

Besides, no one can extend protection to anybody against God's Messenger.

Abu Al-Hasan, matters have become too hard for me.

I seek your advice.

By God, I do not know of anything which would be of any use to you.

You are, however, the chief of your people.

Go and declare peace between people; then go home.

Will such a step be of much use?

I really do not think so,

but I can see no other way for you.

Did Muhammad approve what you said when you declared peace?

You achieved nothing.

I never heard of anything like this.

How can you declare peace between people

when you are one of the two parties in conflict?

He is indeed the guilty party.

By God, Ali has played games with you, and you achieved nothing.

If any of you thinks that he can do better, then come forward.

It is too late.

I think Muhammad will soon surprise you with a huge army that fills the valley,

and with other Arab tribes joining him.
