Bill Shankly was Liverpool's hero.

He became the manager in 1959, and turned a second division club

And the cup belongs to Liverpool.

But more than that, he understood the people of Liverpool.

that he wishes to retire from active participation

in league football,

and the board has, with extreme reluctance,

accepted his decision.
