The Vulture-maiden I. Act.
I. Act.
"That's Vulture-Wally, Stromminger's daughter..."
How the Vulture-maiden got its name.
Head-peasent Stromminger.
"None of you has the heart to break the vulture's neck?"
"You shall see, my girl will do it!"
"Wally."
Thus Walburga Stromminger became known as "Vulture-Wally".
There it rushed through the air...
"The eyes... save the eyes!"
The confirmation dress.
And the confirmation cake...
"Luckard!"
The other day was confirmation in Sölden.
"Joseph Hagenbach killed the bear."
But the actual hero of the day was "Joseph the bear-slayer"...
After churchgoing.
"Joseph the bear-slayer... Joseph the bear-slayer..."
"That's a bad omen..."
Money by the government as a reward for shooting the bear.
"You have it from your father! He was the best shot in the whole country..."
"Your father was a weak fool compared to me..."
"Who says that my father was a boaster?"
"I say it, the head-peasant..."
"Head-peasent, I'm sorry..."
"I'm... in love... with Joseph."
"What did you say?"
"Nobody can help me..."
"Did you ever love somebody - with all your heart?"
What the head-peasent decided...
"Vincenz Gellner wants to marry you - I've said 'yes, ' and next month we'll have the wedding..."
"I beg you to go home. I can never be your wife - never."
"I've got your father's consent..."
"Father, I only wanted to tell you, that I won't marry Vincenz..."
"whether you treat me well or strike me dead -
it's all one to me... I have no heart left for you..."
"You shall go and herd the cattle up on the Hochjoch.
I don't want to see you anymore!"
"Up on the Hochjoch? That's like being buried alive..."
In the fog.
"Vulture-Wally?!!"
"You must have done something terrible, if the old one sent you up here..."
"This is Afra out of Vintschgau - she got sick on the way..."
In the same minute old Luckard died...
"God has done a miracle."
"Luckard is dead..."
"She couldn't bear the separation... and then: Vincenz in the house..."
"I am the master's daughter, let me see the dead Luckard..."
"Your father has forbidden that you should come into the house."
"Vincenz ordered it!"
"You've already did my Luckard to death, and now..."
