The 13th century was marked by blood, hatred and pain.

Anatolia, already worn down by the Crusades, was under the threat...

of the Mongols. The Mongols had conquered much of the East and were...

quickly spreading a wave of death across all of Asia...

Anatolia was in great political turmoil.

The ongoing struggle for power symbolized a forewarning...

of the dangerous conflict that lay ahead.

During this time, in 1207, a boy with magnificent light was born deep...

in a small insignificant corner of Asia in a city called Belh.

A boy named 'Muhammed Celaleddin'.

Celaleddin was the son of Bahaüddin Veled, Sultan of the Sufi Scholars...

of the city of Belh.

This life of shining light has influenced and captured the hearts of millions...

with his universal language of love and humanistic philosophy which...

still lives on today.

During his life, he expressed love and affection in tens of thousands of poetic...

verses, which have strongly and profoundly influenced many.

Scholars across the vast East and West hemispheres.

He identified a space of "nothingness" and an unconditional acceptance...

of others while swimming in the depths of Divine Love.

And with this profound passion, he enabled 'the voice of love'...

to be heard for centuries.

Khorasan, also known as the Sun Country of Anatolia, was growing...

Young Celaleddin found himself fleeing the city of Belh...

for a long journey with his father and his family due...

due to the political turmoil of the period.

Their convoy traveled through a number of cities such as Nisabur, Baghdad...

Mecca and Damascus until they finally reached Anatolia.

It was a long and exhaustive journey...

A journey during which the thirst for knowledge was quenched.

During this important journey of thousands of miles...

Celaleddin was passing through historical holy lands while at...

Konya... The City of Divine Love... The city of immortals...

In the 13th century, Konya was the capital of civilization and culture.

It was the focal center for commercial routes and thus became...

became the intersection point for different beliefs of the time.

Upon special invitation by Sultan Alaeddin Keykubat...

the final stop for Celaleddin and...

his family became Konya.

When they arrived, the Sultan...

stood with full noble respect at the city gates...

to welcome the caravan.

In 1231, Celaleddin's father, Bahaüddin Veled...

Sultan of Scholars passed away unexpectedly.

Celaleddin found himself in a severe state of emptiness...

after his father's sudden death.

A dear friend, Burhaneddin Tirmizi from Kayseri, helped him...

to recover from these unbearable feelings and helped...

helped to unlock a new path of understanding.

During this period Celaleddin, found much relief in the mental...

tutoring provided by his friend. He also healed through reading...

and studying a book written by his father called 'Maarif'.

'Seyyin Burhaneddin Tirmizi arrives in Konya and...

gives advice to Rumi on what he should be doing.

Rumi already had received much guidance and tutoring from his father...

during the journey and from Seyyid Burhaneddin Tirmizi afterwards...

And of course from other scholars who migrated along with them..'

Celaleddin soon acquired a great deal of knowledge relating to both the East...

and the West which allowed him to bring different ideas together...

He bagan sharing his ideas with others using the knowledge...

and courage he learned from his father.

His trips to Aleppo and Damascus significantly added to his experiences...

which, in turn, deepened his wisdom even further.

Celaleddin had now become a well-known figure among the people of Konya.

He quickly became a strong candidate for the spiritual...

position his father left behind.

Celaleddin was once again torn with pain...

by the death of his teacher, Tirmizi.

He, again, was plagued with a strong feeling of loss.

Fortunately, this time he had many of his students by his...

side for support.

As years passed, Celaleddin's reputation grew...

He was now high among Sufi leaders of the East.

He adopted and internalized spiritual branches of the time such as...

Cannon Law, Islamic Theology and Hadiths.

He had hundreds of students and thousands of followers..

He became a great teacher, a scholar of mystical wisdom...

and a respected theologist.

And then... a notorious moment emerged.

But of course, the science contained within these books was far from being...

sufficient for him. The reason for this was simply because he had a different...

type of yearning deep inside his heart. Love... He was feeling where he was...

heading to, as a result of all the letters and books he read.'

It was November 29th, 1244.

History may never witness such a phenomenon...

in any location on Earth again.

This extraordinary day captured the souls deep from the hearts...

of all who surrounded. Only those who could actually see 'Love'...

were to witness that day.

There was a blazing fire in the middle of Konya.

Shems-i Tebrizi appeared out of nowhere...

and took hold of Celaleddin and surrounded him...

of glowing ember made of Love.

A mysterious and unfamiliar person, perhaps appearing from beyond time...

or distance, was carrying the illumination required to...

transform Celaleddin into Mevlana Celaleddin-i Rumi.

'When he met Shems he was like a very traveller in a parch...

say he was like a piece of very dry wood.

And Shems was a spark and that him one fire.'

'Until Shems, Mevlana was just like a candle prepared...

all ready and in place, with the proper texture...

the entire surrounding was illuminated.'

It was as if two oceans merged together as one.

Shems and Rumi studied and came to understand the topics...

of Divine Love over many days and nights.

Shems quickly discovered the great light in Rumi's heart and...

worked to further develop his soulful thinking into a mature masterpiece.

At the same time, Rumi saw the reflection of Divine Love...

within Shems and was deeply affected.

The only subject that was spoken of or that was shared was that of pure Love.

Neither of them ate or slept they only focused on the faithfulness.

To the study of Love. It is believed that Rumi was re-born with Shems.

A sweet breeze of the spiritual season embraced all of Konya.

among the most splendid of poems in all the world.

For the true friend, the lover, the beloved, he wrote of nature and so on.

Sometimes he praised the birds...

and other times he praised anything in the universe.

I am the groan of forest, and sound of waves...

I am the pillar, smoke, shipmaster and ship...

I am the rock demolished by the ship...

I am the bird trainer, bird and the trap...

I am the painting, mirror, sound and echo...

I am the soul of man...

I am the sparkle within stones...

I am the vein of gold...

I am a rose and I am a nightingale which filled with admiration of the rose...

am the doctor, patient, magic and medicine...

Sweetness, bitterness... Honey and oleander...

I am silence, thought, language and voice...

I am the sound of, Reed Flute.

'Shems made him become Rumi or Mavlana.

He was Mevlana before, he was so master before.

But he was not a poet, he was not a lover.

He was not the Rumi with love. He was not the Rumi...

that created such a incredible work of art that his poetries.

Due to Shem's extended presence in his life, Rumi began wearing plain...

modest clothing rather than the elaborate attire of scholars.

He learned to set himself and his ego aside and out of focus.

He began to believe that the true righteousness perhaps rested...

in reaching the Creator through joyful peace and love.

Rumi started searching for this joyful love everywhere.

He expressed this Love and Joy in his poems...

and his rubai, a specific Persian poetry format.

'He educated himself in science and culture till he was 37.

Acquired a lot from the East and the West. He continued studying and...

teaching others and in the end he ran into Shems an unconventional spirit.

They together did tear apart the pages of the philosophy of this...

life and went. Beyond life where they realized that all there is left...

behind was material and objects only...

There at that point, came into life a Love... Love for God...

and from the Love for God they opened their arms wide to welcome everyone.'

Love is the instrument to unfold divine secrets...
