We must unite, and we must organize
to form a base to fight racism.
To fight our oppressors.
The reason I wanted to teach this MasterClass
is because you can learn from my experience.
You can learn from me because I know what I'm talking about.
I want to spread what I've learned with as many people as
possible.
And this MasterClass is providing the opportunity.
The important lessons I learned in my filmmaking career
began when I decided I wanted to be a filmmaker.
And that's a lesson of work ethic, which
I saw from my parents, a mother who taught,
my father was a jazz musician.
My grandparents.
So I grew up, the people worked.
And people who loved their work and people who
worked hard, just worked hard.
Were never trying to cut any corners.
I was born in the right time.
Whatever it is, I was going to be a filmmaker.
By hook or crook, I just knew that.
But I also understood that I was going
to have to make it happen.
