You hungry, Airi? Want a snack?
Oh, yeah, thanks, Haruka!
Seems we're going pretty deep into the mountains.
Prob'ly to the middle of nowhere,
just like the island.
Hey, says the communal bath uses natural hot springs.
Whoa, for real?
Is it like, mixed bathing and stuff?
Easy, now, let's not get ahead of ourselves.
Would you lower your voice, Sudo?
There are other people on this bus, you know.
You're right, Suzune, sorry about that.
Honestly, having the upperclassmen here
makes me kind of nervous.
I hear that.
It's 'cause we don't interact with them much.
Sounds like they're having fun up there, huh?
Apologies for interrupting the playtime,
but quiet down and pay attention.
Now, then. Please listen carefully, students of Class D.
Pardon me.
You're Class C now, aren't you?
Then, listen well, my newly advanced darlings.
As I explain the upcoming special exam.
This one is called, "mixed training camp."
-Jeez, it's cold! -
Whoa, check it out!
-Whoa! -Man, they put us up here for a whole week?
You're really telling me we're gonna have to live
and work with some other class?
I don't like it, man.
The purpose of this special exam
is to utilize a training camp for mental expansion
and inspiration.
You'll form groups with people
you don't normally interact with,
and then you'll live and work together.
"Mixed training camp."
As the name suggests, we're split up
according to class year and gender,
then put into small groups of mixed class years
where we'll have to cooperate with each other.
We'll be graded as a group.
Whether or not we pass
is determined by four tests conducted on the last day.
High-scoring groups will get two kinds of points
private, or individual points, as well as points
for their respective classes.
Right, but that's not the most important aspect here.
Yeah.
It seems like the thing we really want to avoid
is falling under what's called the "borderline."
The groups that fall short of the borderline
will have their leader expelled,
along with one other member of the group,
who will be determined by the leader.
So, someone has to go down with them?
That sucks!
That sounds like trouble for you, Sudo.
With your attitude and all.
Ha, ha!
Hey, I've been making an effort to address that lately, okay?
I've got your backs.
No one from our class will get expelled.
If you're having problems, find me and we'll fix them.
Yeah, but how are we supposed to do that?
Dinner is the only time boys and girls are together.
Yeah, and plus, all our phones are getting confiscated.
Right.
I'll consult the boys, but the girls should pick
someone to go to for help, too.
I know who I think would be good.
Horikita.
Okay.
That's nice, but as much as I hate to say this out loud.
I'm not sure I have the kind of altruism one might need
to adequately be of service that way.
Yeah, how about you keep the quiet part quiet.
-So, Kushida. -
How would you like to serve as my sub-leader?
Um. I'm not really sure how much help
I would be, to be honest.
So modest, but you'll be an immense help
everyone in class trusts you, after all.
Well, then. Sure!
If you think I'd be good, then great!
I'll do my very best!
-Middle of nowhere for sure. -
- -I wanna go home.
Keep it moving!
-Let's go! -
Seems like Class A
is already concocting some scheme.
Right, Class C, time to surrender your phones.
Hand them over in an orderly fashion,
then sign your names on the check sheet.
For this exam...
it won't be possible for me to protect everyone in the class.
-Not by myself. -
I'm nervous about being separated from everyone.
I'll have to narrow it down,
decide where to focus my energy.
We'll do exactly
what you told us to, Nagumo!
Thanks, 'cause I'm countin' on ya!
You better work hard, too, Nagumo!
All right, everyone, we're going to take our luggage
into the building now.
From there, you'll be divided along gender lines,
then you'll split into groups.
As for your groups, we'll leave it to you
to form those among yourselves.
The school will take no part in it.
So, they're leaving the whole thing up to us then.
...subject to immediate...
I sure don't want to be in a group with that guy.
Kakeru Ryuen.
When he lost to me, the tyrant of the class
formerly known as C voluntarily relinquished his throne.
And ever since then, he's been a pariah
to all of class D, or to the entire grade, really.
That guy's screwed.
Now start with the first-years.
Let's get that luggage moving, people.
You mean we gotta climb a mountain with all our stuff?
C'mon, girls, you're not getting outta this one.
Hey, Horikita.
Once the groups have been decided,
how about a little friendly competition?
That's a bit presumptuous of you.
Why would a third-year compete with you?
You're just a measly second-year.
I'm not after anything except a little battle
between the current and former student council presidents,
or is that too much to ask, somehow?
You'll be graduating and moving on soon,
and I just want to find out once and for all
if I've surpassed you before I lose my chance.
And just what did you have in mind for this competition?
Horikita, why?
Whosever group gets the highest average score
at the end of the test is the winner,
and it's as simple as that.
I see.
I'd be happy to take you up on that.
One thing, leave the other students out of it.
A good, old-fashioned gentleman's agreement, eh?
Well, then, it's a promise.
There'll be no punishment for losing, either.
The only thing at stake here is our pride, nothing more.
I like that.
I can't believe my brother would deign to accept
such a challenge.
The current student council president,
Miyabi Nagumo.
He seems to be rather confident.
You gotta be kidding me!
It's a pretty small room.
You mean we have to sleep in here with nine other people?
Well, we're about to get real cozy.
I call dibs on the end mat, so go cry, suckers.
Come on, man, no fair!
That's not how this works and you know it.
Yeah, we have to talk about things like that.
Huh? What was that, Yukimura?
Don't think you can order me around
just 'cause you got picked for group lea...
Looks like somebody got cowed by that whole thing.
Sounds good!
If you want the end so badly, I'll gladly take center.
For real?
He said we had to talk it out, Koenji!
Yes, and I am saying this is my preferred position.
You should all express your preferences, too.
That's not at all what "talking about it" means.
Seems like we've got choppy seas ahead.
Something you want to say, Yahiko?
I think it goes without saying, Hashimoto.
We might both be in Class A, but I don't trust you at all.
No surprise.
But since we're currently in the same group,
you might have to get over that.
We'll see about that.
The other groups seems to be a lot more
even-keeled.
But this one is just a band of misfits.
There'll be no bonds formed here.
- -
I don't think I've ever seen you
so tired, Ichinose.
Oh, Ayanokoji, hey. What's up?
Sorry, I'm beat.
Divvying up the groups was freaking exhausting.
I discovered that girls are not at all shy
about saying who they don't like!
Don't take on too much.
You forget who I am?
If there's one thing I've got in spades, it's endurance!
Oh, also...
