The first 200 lines.
Previously on Will Trent ...
You blew up our life!
I fought for this relationship, for us.
Hey. Uh, what are you doing?
I remembered there's this really cute doctor
and he wants to have sex with me.
Unfortunately, this dark area right next to it is a tumor.
What should I do?
Go and get it out as soon as possible.
I think it's gonna be okay, okay?
And no matter what happens, we'll face it together.
-What does that mean, she opened her eyes? -Well, they don't know.
They said it might mean that she's waking up or that she's dying.
What's in the box?
My mother.
You don't get to keep ruining my life.
The cycle stops with me.
Beautiful terrible mother.
God bless you, sir, thank you.
Oh, Ange.
I'm sorry. How's the pain?
It's good. It's, uh... It's fine.
Tolerable.
I was really hoping to sneak out of here before your shift.
No such luck. Look straight ahead, please.
All right.
Hmm?
You saw my chart.
I'm the attending. It's required before I can send you home.
I was drinking.
I've been drinking.
Did something happen?
My mom died.
She was in a coma the last...
...um, 12 years.
Angie, I'm so sorry.
I'm sure that was complicated. And hard.
Yeah.
You're not the first person to fall off the wagon, it's okay.
I don't know that it's okay.
You know, usually, I'd, um...
I'd wanna do a-a X-ray. Rule out any broken ribs but...
Ms. Polaski, are you aware that you're pregnant?
You sure?
Oh, yeah.
Uh...
And unless I'm mistaken, in which case, now would be a good time to let me know...
I had something to do with it.
And I have feelings, um...
but they don't decide what happens next.
As a physician, I'll say if you intend to carry this baby to term,
you need to stop drinking.
As...
as the man who loves you,
Uh, I'll say...
I'll say whatever you decide, I'm there.
So you let me know if we're going to a meeting
or to North Carolina.
Dr. McDale, they need you in exam 12.
Uh, can you ask Simmons?
She's in the OR. That dysphasia case is tanking.
Yeah, I'll be right there.
Sorry, I...
We'll talk.
So you think that's too chill or just chill enough?
Should I send it? I don't wanna seem desperate.
Okay, how many texts have you sent today?
Five.
She's just really cool.
Okay.
Well, yeah. You said that in all three of your unanswered text messages.
I didn't wanna come across as aloof.
Hey, Nico. Guess what? I broke my personal best.
Oh, hey, uh, Faith. I wasn't expecting you.
Ooh, is that iced tea?
-Oh, you are so sweaty. -Mine, thank you.
I don't need electrolytes anyway.
What happened to your wall?
Yeah, um, I'm fixing a crack.
By turning it into a hole?
It's a five step process.
If I don't secure the drywall to the studs,
it'll keep coming back. And I can't abide a crack, Amanda.
Cracks lead to chaos. And why is everyone in my home?
Well, I had a meeting nearby and this is time sensitive.
I need you two to get over to Bradford County.
Leave now, it'll only take about 80 minutes.
What happened?
Double homicide.
One of the victims is the deputy sheriff. Killed in her own home.
Ooh, that's bold.
I need you two to be equally bold.
The sheriff in Bradford is Caleb Broussard.
He did not ask for our assistance, and you will not be welcome.
This is the governor's call?
He and Caleb ran a pissing contest over whether the state can compel
local authorities to enforce laws they think are unconstitutional.
So he's one of those sheriffs, king of the county.
He expects us to kiss the ring. Got it.
I'll just take a quick shower, and I'll be on my way.
Oh, no, sir. Caleb's people are already down at the scene.
You can go dressed just like you are.
You know there's an order and process to things?
- Happy crime fighting, Sweaty. - Mm-hmm.
Finally.
All right, doc sent me here for a scan. It's part of my pre-op workup.
Blood work has to be done first. Can't do a scan without it.
Okay, how was I supposed to know that?
It's procedure.
You can sign up right over there. Come back when you're clear.
What, and wait again? I have to work.
Thank you for your service.
Next.
-Feeling the love already. -Mm-hmm.
Sheriff Caleb Broussard, I'm Special Agent Will Trent.
- This is Special Agent Faith Mitchell.
We're very sorry to hear about the loss of your deputy.
We're just here to help.
All business. Okay, my kind of guy.
Sheriff Caleb.
Good morning, Diana. Is that your banana bread?
Yeah, fresh out the oven.
Did you hear shots this morning?
Yeah, I did, about 2:00 a.m.
Just terrible. Poor Joanna.
Did you see anything? A car, person, or hear any voices?
They're GBI.
From Atlanta.
Hmm, my...
Well, no, I was still in my night clothes. I hadn't put my robe on yet.
By the time I peeked out, it was all over.
-Please have some. -Thank you, no.
Homemade.
Oh, it does look good, so I'll just try a little pie--
I-I underestimated the moistness.
Moistness?
Deputy Hall, this is GBI.
Apparently they don't have a dress code.
Do we know the relationship between the victims?
It was a B and B hookup. Boiled and Buzzed. It's a bar.
See, I know they were there because of the peanut shells in their shoes.
And the fact that Joanna-- Uh, Deputy Lundgren,
told me that she needed a drink and someone to sweep the chimney.
Her words, not mine.
Well, who's our unlucky chimney sweep?
Levi Van Horn, handyman, carpenter,
no family in town, moved here about five years ago.
He did my sister's gazebo. And also my sister.
Real quality work.
The gazebo, I mean.
-Kenny, can you shut up? -Sorry.
This burn looks intentional to me, like a brand.
Kenny, did Deputy Lundgren ever mention a jealous ex to you?
Joanna wasn't the relationship type. My money's on a prior arrest.
A revenge killing. Any idea who it might be?
Nah, just a hunch.
Deputy Hall is putting together a theory of the crime scene.
I don't even know why you guys are here.
Well, why don't you walk us through it?
Okay, so they get home, come through this door here,
turn the lights on. Joanna turns on some D'Angelo
because it gets her all riled up-- her words, not mine.
She goes to the kitchen to get some beers, you know, grease the shoot a little.
My words, not hers.
Sorry. Then, uh, boom, boom.
Two shots through the window, found both casings outside.
Levi's hit, he falls.
Joanna's gun is back in the living room,
so she grabs a knife there in the kitchen.
Attacker comes through the side door... Ah!
Grabs Joanna, she struggles, cuts the attacker.
His gun goes off, bang.
Casing there, gunshot through the door.
Joanna gets away and dives to the couch to get her gun from her purse.
The attacker shoots after her, bang, bang, bang.
Three shots. One through the door. One hits Levi's body.
Another hits Joanna in the back. Mission accomplished.
The killer leaves the way he came, side door.
Must have been hurt because he dropped his gun on the way out there. Sadly...
...no fingerprints.
That was cool. But that's not what happened.
Excuse me?
Joanna wasn't the primary target. Levi was.
Broken glass in Levi's hair.
He was bending down when someone shot through the window.
The bullets in the door, that was from the first two shots,
not the later struggle.
That's correct.
The killer came through that door, yes.
He and Joanna struggled, yes,
but if you look at the bruises on her neck,
it's like he had her in some sort of choke hold.
So why didn't he just shoot her? He had the gun.
Except he shot Levi three times, probably when he was trying to hide.
Bang, bang, bang. Those were the three shots.
Joanna then stabbed the attacker with that knife there.
But it was when she came over to her purse to grab her gun,
the attacker finally shot her too.
Bang.
Whoever did this was here to kill Levi.
