The first 200 lines.
tonight the single elimination stage kicks off from underdogs to big dogs the
survivors of the qualifying round crash the box in an all-out blitz
nasty newcomers ready to stick their claim as true contenders
an absolute warhorse who was one win from last year's final we always assume
any fight could be our last and the Brazilian bull storming onto American
soil this is the opening night of the round of 32 where every fight is life or
death
welcome to battle robots the most epic robot fighting tournament of all
time and tonight the competition heats up the 32 teams that survived the
qualifying round now enter the knockout stage no second chances no excuses win
and you move on lose and the dream to raise your arms in triumph and lift the
giant nut
here to guide you through the field of battle our resident
Bracket ologist broadcasting guru Chris Rose and USC legend Kenny Florian
hey guys hey Sam how are you I'm doing great
ready to get started we are we are let's
take you to the big board and here you see our 32 bot bracket
representing the field for this year's championship let's reveal the seeds
each bot has been ranked 1 through 32 and what do you know for the second
great year the number one overall seed is the big dog tombstone
pumping out a chest walk around the pit stand on the baddest boy around there
you guys love tombstone don't you
well he'll definitely have some competition to contend with you'll
notice veterans like ice wave and lockjaw along with hard-hitting newcomer
Rita all residing in his quadrant this is certainly no easy path for tombstone
all right moving on we have the number two seed Bronco so impressive in the
qualifying round also last season where it made the semi-finals but give
me one or two bots that could give him trouble in this quadrant Kenny
well I really think that Bronco and Minotaur on a collision course here
and hopefully the battle bot gods are listening here hope these two face
each other okay let's move down and take a look at which doctor last year
they were a wild card this year they're a number three seed yeah Chris as we saw
the qualifying round which doctor is out for blood this year they recorded
the fastest knockout of the tournament and made a statement that they are one
of the top contenders in the field watch out for these guys I'm actually
gonna advance around I see the bottom team here the 22 seed warrior
clan I see the six seed son of wayachi each run by members of the Ewer clan if
they both advance it would be brother against brother father against son oh
that is tasty that's what I'm talking about I wouldn't want to be mama
Eward on that day all right let's head down to the final quadrant and this
one is packed with familiar names you have stinger as the five seed chomp
at number 13 and of course last year's champion bite force leading the
but only as a four seed lack of respect Kenny well you know I don't think so
listen I think he likes being the underdog and the truth is this is a
guy who chose not to rest on his laurels he's gone with a complete redesign
it's a whole new bot a whole new weapon that hasn't been tested until
this season so I think it's about right yeah who wouldn't like not
having the target on their back I think that could be an advantage all
right it's time to find out more about these bots the bracket is set
and it's time for the bots to battle it out and in our first fight of the night
two rookies go head-to-head for a chance to move on it's yeti versus
lucky let's see what these bots have been up to since they're qualifying fights
in the qualifying round lucky proved its metal taking hit after hit from
but came up short in a judge's decision Rob masick and his Canadian team are
ready to prove they can flip this competition on its head I lost my fight
but I impressed enough the judges thought I was worth giving a wild card
to so we're going to the big show let's get the armor off let's get the
top plate off my match is going to be against yeti they have a very high
robot we have nice low ground clearance we're going to get under them
get good flips off we get them up and on the wall and jam behind the screws or
the barriers I think we're going to take it let's go out there and kick
some Alaskan ass
yeti's massive drum spinner and all-out blitz offense
smash past lockjaw to get to the round of 32 but Greg Gibson didn't
plan on getting this far and his own success might be his biggest opponent
after I won my first call was my wife second call was to a teammate Dell
back in Alaska you couldn't make it here to get to the machine shop and
start building me some spares look at what he did to the top yeah what
his teeth just gnarling at it that one the rim yeah I didn't pack with
the confidence of going very far so I just brought a couple spares so I
think we're doing some overnight shopping tomorrow morning lucky lost his
first fight and he got a wild card spot but this time he's going up against
yeti there are no second chances you either win or you go home
all right guys let's talk through yeti versus lucky first of all I love the
crew from Alaska yeti they're led by Greg Gibson and his wife must have a
tremendous sense of humor she calls him the king of the nerds well Mrs.
Gibson I got to tell you that is one strong nerd out there there's no doubt
about it and he might be king of the battle box I mean this spot is very
very tough you can see the aggression numbers for yeti in that last match
he actually got 27 hits in that match and if you're hitting you're scoring
points in the meantime lucky is here not because it's lucky but because
it's a wild card I guess playing defense is part of the equation inside
the battle box well I tell you what it got hammered literally by Vita
but it showed that is a very durable bot I mean it took a pounding it kept on
moving forward it showed some decent aggression there and if that weapon
gets working it can cause some problems for yeti so with a
functioning weapon I can see those numbers going higher all right time to
see how they fight the bots are ready so let's go to the box where
Peru has the introduction
ladies and gentlemen
are you ready
it's robot fighting time
And here we are!
Canadian pride, you see their overall wear
and Captain Rob Maszak,
soaking in the excitement, Kenny.
Yeah, what's interesting is the whole team
actually met for the first time for BattleBots.
They put on a good show in the opening round,
and I'm sure that experience has helped gel that team.
Canada!
Dude, you're from New Hampshire.
Kenny, look at that drum spitter on Yeti.
That is one forceful bot.
And by the way, if he's not successful here,
he can always take it back home to Alaska
and use it as a snow plow, I guess.
That's true. It'd defend itself against some grizzlies.
That thing was really impressive in the qualifying round.
And I love their attitude. It's attack all the time.
In the Red Square, prowling the slopes of Mount Kilimanjaro,
y'all ain't really ready. It's Yeti!
Greg Gibson didn't think he'd get this far in the tournament.
Been pilfering for spare parts,
and apparently bought a set of used wheels off of Bronco.
In the Blue Square, place your bets.
We're about to play Crushing Roulette.
It's lucky!
Stay classy, Canada. Stay classy.
Handshake's forever.
Robots, activate.
Yeti gets a devastating drum spitter up to top speed.
Lucky! That thing can turn on a dive.
World-renowned driver Gary Jin at the controls.
Red Team, ready.
Green Team, ready.
Let's ice this Yeti.
Let the match battle begin.
Here comes Lucky, quickly out of the blocks.
Lucky, pushing Yeti around.
We got some sparks.
Oh, is that some kind of crazy jiu-jitsu move, Kenny?
I don't think so, Chris.
Oh! Looks like that flipper is stuck from Lucky.
Whoa! Whoa!
It's getting eaten alive by Yeti right now.
And Lucky got out of the corner,
but just took another serious headshot.
There goes another piece of Lucky.
That drum spinner on Yeti spins at 4,000 RPM.
Yeah, and it's doing its job right now, Chris.
Looks like Lucky's flipper is working again.
Oh!
Yeti has lost the wheel, Kenny.
What's he gonna do?
Oh!
No! No! No!
He's decapitated Lucky.
Unbelievable!
Lucky has lost his head, and Yeti has lost a leg.
Well, Lucky needs to change his game plan, Chris.
Oh! Big hit by Yeti.
With no primary weapon,
he will have to use Urena's great timing,
and those white light signal Urena weapons are now active.
Both these bots have suffered massive destruction
and the kill saws do some damage to Lucky.
What an opening match we're seeing here, Kenny.
Keep pushing! Keep pushing!
Now Lucky, he's on the ropes with no primary weapon.
Can he pull out something? Anything!
There's still time on the clock, Chris.
Lucky just needs to hang on, but...
Oh! Oh!
The drop spinner from Yeti, still wreaking havoc.
Oh!
Eat him! Eat him!
Oh!
Yeti grinding down Lucky.
Lucky on his last legs, Kenny.
That last hit looks to have had an effect on his drive train.
Kenny just needs that knockout. Whoa!
They ain't got nothing. We can brush that off.
Keep pushing. Keep pushing.
Under a minute to go.
Lucky clinging on for dear life.
Go get him. Just go get him.
Oh! Oh!
Lucky's not moving, Kenny.
This could be the end of Lucky.
Here comes the countdown.
Yeti celebrating, and so he should be.
He's making this match on three wheels.
This Yeti can dance.
One, knockout.
That is it. Wow.
Yeti with the knockout of Lucky
and the celebration to boot.
Kenny, Yeti said it's all offense all the time,
and you can see why.
Yeah, we found out that Yeti has two modes,
off and berserker mode. That's all.
But he did lose that wheel early on, Kenny.
You can see it right there just pop off on impact.
That drop spinner, Chris, is unbelievable.
It just took out that primary weapon, that flipper,
and after that, I mean,
Lucky was basically a sitting duck.
Guys, I have to say that Yeti is probably
the biggest surprise of this tournament so far.
