Welcome back to Good morning Oceana!

Today, we're celebrating the one-year anniversary of Princess Merliah's arrival

to our underwater world.

Merliah rocks. Oh, and she's so beautiful.

Merliah was the daughter of our own Queen Calissa.

But since the poor girl was born with legs,

Calissa gave Merliah to her human grandfather, Break.

And not a moment too soon.

Calissa herself was soon imprisoned by her wicked sister, Eris,

a tyrant who ruled over us all for years with an iron fin.

She's so evil!

But brave Merliah came to Oceana's rescue,

diving down to our world where she accepted her true self.

I am Merliah, half-mermaid princess of Oceana,

and it is my duty to protect my subjects.

Whoa!

Merliah became a real mermaid and gained the strength to defeat Eris

who wound up caught in her own whirlpool,

and vanished to the deepest trench of the ocean.

I don't deserve this!

With Eris gone, Merliah released Calissa

who again ruled us with love while spinning Merillia, which gives life to the sea.

In return, Calissa gave Merliah a magic necklace

that enabled her to become a human or a mermaid any time she wished.

And since then, our princess has been a superstar

in both the human and merworlds!

Why, this very day, sources tell me she's up on the surface

competing in the biggest surf-meet of her life!

So, happy anniversary, Princess Merliah.

And may the happy times continue for all of Oceana!

She's the queen of the waves!

We've got a great day here at Laguna beach

for this year's Surf Invitational.

These riders have really been heating up the waves,

including our current contestant and Malibu crowd favorite,

Merliah Summers.

But the magic was so powerful,

it transformed my tail forever.

I fear it would transform yours too,

and you would be unable to use your legs again.

I can't even imagine.
