Terror in the Woods

jason: We were all trying to decide if it wasn't just,

you know, our imagination.

Aah! Oh, my god! Go!

I knew I had just made a mistake.

I might pay for this now.

We got to get out of here.

This is insane.

I knew whatever that was... It wanted me.

My god.

Did this thing actually attach itself to, like, my soul?

I command you in the name of jesus christ!

I felt like that we went from being the hunters

to being the hunted.

I never heard anything like that ever.

It was crashing through the thorn bushes.

It was coming towards us.

He had a white wig on, like a judge.

At that point, I was trying to hold back panic.

my name is matthew gagan.

It all started on a 45-minute drive from orlando

on the east coast.

We were hanging out at my girlfriend's house in palm bay.

Here we go.

Like you're street performing. You're making big bucks.

Here we go. Here we go.

It was the summer of 2010 right before my sophomore year.

My name is jason coster.

Coming in, mattie.

Ohhh.

I've known matt for probably about 12 years now.

We met when we were in middle school,

and we've been, like, best friends ever since then.

We had no plans that night, you know,

was just looking for anything to do.

Hey, guys.

Look at what I found in the attic.

And then that's when his girlfriend had the idea.

A ouija board? Yeah.

You want to give it a go?

You know, I was curious just to see if maybe it did work.

it was midnight, almost 1:00 a.M.,

around in that time.

Okay. We have to wait until 3:00 a.M.

That's the dead time, and that is when

the spirit world is closest to our own.

Jason: So I was like, "this isn't real,"

like, not thinking anything is going to happen.

we have a couple of hours to kill.

we should go to a cemetery.

She actually said, "hey, you know,

there's this supposed haunted graveyard not too far."

what do you guys say?

"we can go do this until 3 a.M."

you know, it's summer. We were all in high school.

We were just looking for a good time.

Let's go then. Come on.

the graveyard itself is surrounded

by nothing but woods for miles.

Jason and me, we had been drinking and everything,

so we were all kind of giddy,

but it was a nervous atmosphere, as well.

okay, if we see anything, I'm out of here, okay?

I'm not holding my breath.

I'd never been to a graveyard other than, like,

a funeral, you know?

Never been in the middle of the night

to do some stuff like that,

so I was excited and a little nervous

'cause it was my first time doing that.

jason!

so we're just joking around and laughing

and trying -- "ah!"

katie! Geez!

Trying to scare each other.

Can we just go see some graves, please?

Come on!

It's like the adrenaline of just being scared.

It was fun to us.

stop it!

Are you freaking serious? Leave me alone.

Jason: The first thing you notice is all the graves on the ground.

There was, like, a little children's graveyard.

You could see on the plaques that the deaths were, you know,

like, just a couple years apart from after they were born.

Aah! Oh, come on.

I said stop it.

hey, jason.

Come look at this.

the mausoleum stood about 12, 15 feet.

It was closed, and the lights were all off in there.

It brought my curiosity out.

Matt, be careful.

Matt tried to peek in and see.

You couldn't really see in there 'cause it was so dark.

I'm going in.

Matt: I tried yanking on the door.

I tried, honestly, breaking the door open.

Ah, come on, man. We're wasting our time.

But it wouldn't open up.

Let's go.

right after we tried to open the mausoleum door

was when he was like, "oh, guys, I really got to pee."

nature calls.

Matt, where are you going? Go in the forest.

Matt: Instead of being a respectful person

and going off to, like, the fence line or something...

too late, now.

Aw, come on, man. Stop.

...Stupid teenager,

I decided to just pee all over these graves.

We were like, "oh, you know,

that's probably not a good idea, man."

but he did anyway.

Hope I don't go to hell.

it's too late for you now.

after I had finished, the whole atmosphere changed.

Everything changed.

Like, you felt like you were being watched.

we keep walking, and then we start feeling cold air,

like, cold breezes hitting us.

You feel that?

It's florida. It doesn't get that cold.

Matt, check the trees.

Jason: Whenever that breeze would hit you,

you would see the leaves on the trees move,

but just in certain spots, like where we were standing.

So, I was a little creeped out.

My grandmother used to say that a cold wind

passing you was the dead.

She tells us that it's supposed to be a spirit passing by us.

They're lost souls.

You got, like, this feeling that just,

like, ran down your spine, just a chill.

I was excited.

I was scared, but I was excited to see

what the night was about to unfold.

I need to take a shot. Come on.

She was hoping to catch something on camera,

maybe some white orbs, you know, whatever she could.

Ready? One, two, three.

Smile.

Ugh, I can't believe you just did that.

Ugh.

she just was looking into her camera with, like,

a face of horror, and she said to us,

like, "guys, you need to see this."

those two faces above you, matt...

You could see these, like, two faces

kind of up a couple feet above his head.

Matt: They looked angry.

Like, they looked very mad, like very mad,

and they were just above my head, looking down on me.

They're angry with us, matt!

I got absolutely terrified.

Like, I knew I had just made a mistake.

I did something horribly wrong, and I might pay for this now.

matt: When I was looking at her camera,

there was this strong gust of wind.

and then suddenly, the picture went black,

and it was just -- it was gone.

The flash drive was corrupted.

Like, she lost everything that was on that flash drive.

I was freaked out.

What you did to that grave was really stupid.

We should just leave.

Please.

I was truly terrified, but my adrenaline was pumping.

Like, I wanted to see more.

Jason: He was like, "naw, man."

like, "this is what we came from.

Let's stay and see what happens."

matt: As we were walking down the path,

the wind started picking up.

this time, we started hearing whispers,

but it was like you couldn't make out

what the whispers were saying.

It was just being carried with the wind.

I started, like, trying to listen harder.
