Hello?
Evan?
Danielle, is that you?
You've been a bad girl.
Haven't been answering my calls.
Why have you been avoiding me?
Someone will be home any minute.
I know your family schedule.
Your husband's out of town.
Your daughter's at a friend's for a sleepover.
You're all alone.
You only have me.
I've dreamt of this moment for a long time.
Hope Connors, you have given my life meaning.
Will you marry me?
You're making me the happiest man in the world.
To our upcoming union.
Somebody help me!
Somebody help me!
My chest!
He-- help me.
Help me!
Help me.
Help me.
You-- you're a doctor! Help me!
My chest!
Help me!
Hey!
This is a song called "Rose."
- Hi. - Hi.
Got here as fast as I could.
Isn't he getting a little old for the rock star act?
I happen to love his music.
You happen to love what he does to you in bed.
Shh!
Mom, what are you two talking about?
I was just commenting on your stepfather's amazing ability--
We were just enjoying the song.
I will put that with the rest.
This is a party, Mary. Relax. You're not on the clock.
Well, you know me. I see something that needs doing
and I do it.
I can't get over what a baller move it was
to hire a personal assistant.
I honestly don't know what I would do without Mary.
She really got my life back on track.
Thank you, thank you, but now
I think it's time we hear from the woman of the hour.
My beautiful wife, Hope.
Come on, speech. Let's hear a speech!
- Come here! - Okay, okay.
Watch out, watch out. Here it comes now!
Ooh! Okay.
Thank you, everyone, for joining me today.
On Monday, I start work at a new practice, and
- I'm very excited about that. -Whoo!
I will miss working alongside my best friend, Nadine,
but she and I will hang out regardless.
As you all know, for years,
I was stalked by a man named Toby Miller.
He made my life and the life of my family unbearable.
But no longer.
Hear, hear.
Toby wanted to control me.
To possess me.
And I hate to be morbid,
but now that he's gone, I have a new chance at life.
- Yeah. - Yeah, you do.
So thank you, everybody, for joining me today
for the next chapter of our lives.
To his death.
Um, that's a little too harsh.
I can't celebrate a man's death.
But he deserved it.
To our freedom, then.
That I will drink to.
Michael and Janet just arrived.
You should go downstairs and say hi.
Tired of the party?
No. I-- I just wanted to--
Tell me goodbye before I left?
Okay.
I'll head back to the party.
Can't you at least stay till the party's over?
I really can't. The promoter's on my ass.
If we're late to the bus, he'll replace us.
I'll miss you.
I'll miss you too.
But I have a good feeling about this tour.
I think this is gonna be the break
we've been working for.
You don't have to put that kind of pressure on yourself.
I know that you'll be incredible no matter what happens.
I'll be back before you know it.
- I love you. - I love you.
How are you feeling?
You don't gotta worry about me. I'm fine.
Ever since your father died,
I've been worrying for so long
that I don't even know how to stop.
Mom.
You're checking the doors and windows again, aren't you?
Yes.
You don't have to do that anymore.
Because...
Because Toby isn't in my life.
That's right.
You picked up so many habits to protect yourself
when he was stalking you.
But now you can let 'em all go.
I'll try.
You're a hotshot surgeon
with a rock star husband.
- You can do more than try. - You're right.
I promise I will drop all the bad habits I picked up
when I was living in fear.
And don't worry,
I'm gonna put sage throughout the entire house.
I'm also gonna set up some crystals,
get rid of all the bad energy.
I don't know how a doctor raised
such a hippy-dippy, new-age daughter.
Just because you don't believe in the spirit realm
doesn't mean it's not real.
Plus, nobody says "hippy-dippy" anymore.
Well, you're right. My worst fears are coming true.
I am turning into my mother.
- Good morning. - Perfect.
I got it at this place called Nicky's.
Mmm! First order of business
is getting Danielle to school on time.
She's a teenager. She'll be fine.
First order of business is getting you prepped
for your big first day!
Have you seen my keys?
Thank you.
Today's agenda.
- You're a lifesaver. - I know.
Let's tackle this day.
Dr. Connors. Welcome.
- You come very highly regarded. - That's good to hear.
You're from one of the most prestigious hospitals
in the country.
Hopefully that's not a problem.
Well, honestly, I have my doubts
that a doctor of your experience
is gonna be satisfied in a small practice.
What's to keep you from getting bored
and heading right back to the big leagues?
I've always wanted to work in a smaller office
where I can get to know my patients better.
Well, you passed that test.
That's exactly what I was hoping to hear.
I'd like to see my practice continue when I retire.
In the right hands.
You hired the right surgeon, then.
That's been my dream ever since commencement.
Mmm. Let's get to work.
Be sure to check the invoice,
because they always seem to forget something.
And just a reminder,
Krista's gonna be off for most of this month
with her wedding and her honeymoon.
- Krista's the anesthesiologist? - The receptionist.
Carol is the anesthesiologist.
Noted. Krista, Carol.
It took me forever to learn how to run this place.
- Oh, wow, look at that. - I'm sure you're used to
something a little bit more modern.
That is certainly one way of putting it.
Well, welcome to the wild west of surgery.
Small practices can't afford the fancy equipment
that the big hospitals get, but we make do.
I could look into upgrading a few things.
Well, I'm always open to improvements
if they work within our budget.
I guess there's more to
running a small practice than I thought.
Well, it's just probably more than you're used to.
But this is what it takes to have your own practice.
When is there time to actually perform surgery
in between all the admin and managerial work?
I wonder that myself sometimes.
Hey, Nadine.
Everybody here misses you.
Hey, you guys! Say hi to Hope.
- Hi, Hope! - Oh, I miss them too.
How was your first day?
Does your boss need another surgeon?
To be honest,
it was a little overwhelming.
For someone with your skill?
I know my way around an operating room.
It's the rest of it that worries me.
What do you mean?
I guess it's been my dream
to own my own practice for so long
that I never really realized just how much work goes into it.
I have to basically run a business
on top of being a surgeon.
