Here on the plains of East Africa...

...a lion called Kio,

just two years old

on his journey to become a king.

He's lost family...

...his home...

...even his mother.

But he isn't facing the future alone.

He's part of a brotherhood.

to find a kingdom of his own!

Kio sees a faint silhouette.

A shelter of trees

in the heart of a marshland.

Everywhere there are new sights.

New sounds.

New smells.

This one is strangely attractive.

and where is it coming from?

A lioness.

They've not seen her before.

Her every move

is mesmerizing,

captivating.

And for teenage boys...

...intriguing.

For Kio, it is completely confusing.

She seems to be very friendly.

But this isn't play.

This is flirting.

And Kio...

...doesn't know what to do.

Then again, neither do his older brothers.

There's only so many hints she can drop.

When it comes to impressing a female,

Kio and his brothers aren't ready yet.

But her visit does give them a glimpse

into her world.

This marshland is home

to her sisterhood.

If the lionesses have made their home here,

Kio and his brothers could, too.

And finally, they might have a chance to settle.

This marshland would make the perfect kingdom.

And with the females beside them,

one day, they could build a family of their own.

It almost seems too good to be true.

This marshland already has kings.

This is their pride.

And this is their kingdom.

The brothers scatter.

And in the chaos,

Kio is separated from the group.

The kings' attention is now focused only on him.

The dark mane signals strength,

far beyond Kio's years.

He has no choice.

Run for his life!

For a male lion,

brotherhood is everything.

And Kio is now completely alone.

Without his brothers,

he is unlikely to survive.

He must find them.

But calling for them is dangerous.

It could draw the marsh kings' attention.

After hours of searching...

...there is still no sign of them.

Is Kio's journey to be king...
