Prefect Diard and the top brass at Paris HQ
decided to let Gallagher walk.
Don’t move.
-Whoa, this is not what it looks like.
It’s exactly what it looks like.
Hey...
Buddy...
You in the wrong room, or...?
Hey!
Sorry, sorry, uh, we got a male in a silver Corvette
heading east en route to...
whatever the name of the street my hotel is on.
Oh, yeah, and, um...
I’ve got a dead body in my bed.
I feel like... people don’t take me seriously.
No, I have been doing this for a long time, Patty.
Like, I know stuff.
And it’s like...
no one will ever know what I know.
You know?
Whoa...
Keep this locked up!
Do we know where they are?
-Patty and Renuf are in pursuit of the car that fled the scene.
And Patty shared her location with me.
Okay, okay.
Let’s go, Renuf!
We’re still in pursuit of the grey Corvette.
I mean, it’s an island, right?
They gotta come back this way eventually?
-Hmm, I’m pretty sure I know the only road
they’ll have to take.
Pull over!
Pull over! Now!
Turn off the engine!
-Turn it off! Now!
Don’t shoot, Deputy.
Unless, of course, you want to have another go.
We want first crack at him.
-Gallagher’s in holding, but Prefect Diard
gave strict orders that we don’t talk to him until she arrives.
-What? That’s ridiculous.
The guy was just in a high-speed car chase with us,
having fled a potential crime scene.
My hands are tied.
This murder...
dead guy in your hotel room?
-Well, he was in my bed, specifically.
-And what’s your relationship with him?
-I’ve never seen him before in my life.
-Look, Fitz, we trust you, but, uh...
you can imagine this looks a little suspicious.
I wanna know who the dead guy in my bed was
a lot more than any of you, believe me.
Good to hear. Now, go do your jobs.
A lot of people have been in this bed recently, no?
You’re very funny.
Gallagher, eh?
To get his hands this dirty
and to put himself in a vulnerable situation...
something is off.
-Right, but our eyes are all over him,
and a caged animal behaves differently
than it normally would.
He looks... cyanotic.
Like he was suffocated.
And the blood and mucus on your pillow.
Mmm.
Can’t wait to sleep in this bed again.
Seeing this stuff on his hands?
What is it, grease?
Huh... Look.
-Two room keys? Two rooms?
This one is for room 118
and this would be the staff skeleton key.
He’d have access to every room in the motel.
-So, we know how he got into your room,
just not... why.
So, this is Warren’s room.
Clearly, the place has been tossed.
Our dead guy just get here, or was he leaving?
-I’ve asked them to bring Marguerite up to us
from the front desk.
Look.
They are addressed to a... Cori Anderson.
They all have "Return to Sender Warren Travis,
"care of Glenhurst Correctional Facility."
Okay, if our vic’s name is Warren Travis, Glenhurst...
it’s a maximum-security prison in Ontario.
Ex-con writing to Cori from jail?
- Hmm. - His girlfriend?
Wife, maybe?
Arch. Look at this.
These are photos of me.
"Inspector Donald Fitzpatrick. Monday 6:00 AM, 9:00 PM.
"Tuesday..." This is a log.
That’s when I leave in the morning and come back at night.
Was he watching you?
Oh no, you need to-- to stop right there.
I saw Sean Gallagher.
Uh, I was distracted...
getting the garbage out, but I saw him walking over
from his car, and then he was gone.
I assume he came in here.
-Tell us what you know about Warren Travis.
He checked in a few weeks ago.
Was quiet.
Paid on time.
Never any trouble.
Staff loved him.
Like you, Fitz.
-You seem pretty upset, Marguerite.
Were you friends with Warren?
Or was there something...
a little more, maybe?
Marguerite, it’s okay, you can tell us.
-It’s just a bit jarring to witness someone
being carried out in a body bag.
-You said Warren checked in a couple of weeks ago.
It looks like his bag was recently packed.
Do you know, was he planning to move out?
Not that he mentioned to me.
-He had a skeleton key which he used
to break into Fitz’s room.
Any idea how he would have gotten it?
He could have stolen it.
From the cleaners... maybe?
Our victim is Warren Travis.
Age 60.
-He’s an ex-con. He did 12 years
at a maximum-security prison in Ontario,
and he was released two months ago.
-Patty, did you manage to get any info
on what he was convicted of?
It’s a Canadian judicial information sharing issue,
but... I’m working on it.
-And you still maintain that you don’t know our dead guy?
A hundred percent.
Warren, our vic,
he was clocking me.
Every time I left in the morning,
and when I got home at night.
"6:00 AM, 9:00 PM"?
You need a life, my friend.
-Okay, but if we figure out why this guy was logging
my comings and goings,
maybe we’ll have a better understanding
as to how he ended up dead in my motel room.
-Maybe he was watching Fitz for Gallagher
and Gallagher killed him in there.
And you have a motive, right?
Marguerite, she owns the motel;
she seems to think that Gallagher was in the vic’s room
right before he fled the scene.
Right, but that’s not a motive.
We need a stronger connection between Gallagher
and our dead guy.
-Which we could get if we were allowed to question Gallagher.
What about the letters recovered from Warren’s room?
Uh, addressed to a Cori Anderson.
We ran a search, it turns out it’s Warren’s daughter.
She’s unfortunately deceased.
-Any other next of kin? -Yeah.
There were some children’s birthday cards included
in the envelopes made to a child named Tara.
Based on the postage date stamp and the age on the card,
I figured Tara would be 23, which matches to a Tara Anderson
who lives in St. Pierre.
Nice work. Go see her.
See what we can learn from her about Warren.
Uh, this was also mixed in with the letters.
This is a lease agreement between our victim and...
Sean Gallagher.
Is that enough of a link?
I mean, if Diard doesn’t like us questioning
a potential murder suspect...
then she can go...
-Uh, how much time do we have before Diard gets back here?
- About 35 minutes. - She’s on a ferry from Miquelon.
And I’ll be in my office.
Not watching...
whatever it is you guys are up to.
Yes, all right, I was at the hotel last night,
and I shouldn’t have been, and I was with someone
I shouldn’t have been with, but you know...
that’s hardly a crime, is it?
An eyewitness saw you in Warren’s room,
10 minutes before he was found dead.
And clearly you knew him.
You had a lease agreement with him.
-Oh. I was meant to pick up the tenancy agreement
while I was there.
I forgot.
Now, that’s hardly against the law.
So, it’s a coincidence that...
this tenant was murdered?
You fled the scene right before I discovered
Warren Travis’s body.
-Maybe you offed him yourself, Inspector.
We’re all very well aware of that...
