Yes, this is the night you've been waiting for.
A brave young wizard, a smart English dame,
and a TV event series with more wizarding world trivia
than you could squeeze under the stairs.
And you're invited.
In fact, you're playing.
This is Harry Potter: Hogwarts Tournament of Houses.
Well, hello. I'm Helen Mirren
and I have the absolute pleasure and privilege
of being your host for this rather magical event.
Tonight's matchup is critical because whoever is victorious in this game
goes straight through to the final.
Going head-to-head this evening, we have a clash of wit versus cunning,
wisdom versus ambition.
It's Team Ravenclaw versus Team Slytherin.
First, we need to choose the six players who will represent tonight's two houses
and we're going to do that, well, how else could we possibly do it?
One,
two, three,
four, five.
So, we begin with Team Ravenclaw.
Vincent.
Yeah!
Louise.
Annie.
And now, to find out who will be representing Slytherin.
Giulia.
Michelle.
Ryan.
Oh, my God.
Players, you know what to do.
Ravenclaw! Ravenclaw!
Slytherin! Slytherin! Slytherin!
Welcome, everyone. Ravenclaw versus Slytherin.
Brain power versus the lust for power. This should be fun.
Given that this is the twentieth anniversary of the first film,
- I'm curious. Giulia. - Hi.
Do you remember where you were when that first film came out?
So, I was five-years-old, it was me and my mom,
we went to go see the first movie, and then it took off from there.
She bought the books and read them to me every night.
So, how many times have you seen it?
Oh, God, probably over a hundred and fifty.
- No. A hundred and fifty... No. - Oh, yeah, easily. Easily.
Well, you're going to be quite a contestant, I can see that.
My goodness me.
- So, Louise, welcome. - Yes. Thank you so much.
Where are you from?
I live in Houston, but I'm originally from Scotland.
You're Scottish? Really? So, do you feel a connection with the stories?
- Well, Hogwarts is famously in Scotland. - Yes. Right.
- So, it was like a connection to home. - Home from home, yes.
Tell us how much you love these books.
Oh, I grew up with them, so I was eleven when Harry was eleven.
I graduated high school when Harry left to school.
So, you have an absolute parallel life to Harry's life in sense?
- Yes. Yes. - Fantastic.
Well, I wish you the best of luck Slytherin.
- Thank you. - And Ravenclaw.
Thank you.
And all the Ravenclaws and Slytherins
sitting out there behind you are going to be getting in on our game too,
scoring points for their houses in every round.
So, the best of luck to you two houses, too.
So, let's begin at the beginning with round one.
"The World of Harry Potter."
In this first round, we're going to show each house
a moment from one of the eight Harry Potter films.
After watching, you'll work as a team to answer questions about that film.
- Team Ravenclaw, you're up first. - It's us. It's us. All right. Whoo!
- Yeah, we're gonna this right, right? - Yes, yes.
Let's find out which film you'll be revisiting.
Your scene is from The Deathly Hallows, Part Two.
The first question will be about something you're going to see.
Watch closely.
Piertotum Locomotor.
Hogwarts is threatened. Man the boundaries. Protect us.
Do your duty to our school.
I've always wanted to use that spell.
In total, how many stone guards did we actually see crash to the ground?
Okay. I think they, kind of, came down in a triangle formation.
- In a formation. Yeah. - Yeah. That's so true.
- I think it's three. - So, I think three.
- We have our answer? - The answer is three.
For ten points.
- Three. Yeah! - Congratulations.
Congratulations, Ravenclaw.
So, Vincent, what brought you to Harry Potter?
Well, um, growing up, I grew up in the Philippines, actually.
So, half of the time, we don't have electricity because of typhoons,
and when I saw the commercial to Harry Potter, I'm like,
"Mom, can you buy us some tickets for the movie?"
"Um, unfortunately, my boy, we can't afford it."
- Yeah. - "But here are the books."
And now, even if I don't have any cable, I have Hogwarts to escape to.
- So, thank you so much. - That's the magic of a book, isn't it?
- Yeah. Yeah. - Yes. Very good.
Well, are you ready for question two?
Born ready.
This question is related to the Deathly Hallows, Part Two
and the question is,
"Professor McGonagall had vowed to secure the castle
in order to buy Harry time to find what item?
A, Helga Hufflepuff's cup,
B, Rowena Ravenclaw's diadem,
C, Salazar Slytherin's locket,
or D, Arthur Weasley's car keys?"
Well, I think we can take D off.
Yeah. And the cup, they get in the, in Bellatrix Lestrange's vault.
So, that would not be what he was looking for.
We can also eliminate the locket.
They found that in Half-Blood Prince.
Well, kind of. So, we're gonna go with B.
So, for twenty points, let's see if you're right.
- You are correct. - Yeah.
Well done.
Twenty points and you work that out beautifully
between the three of you. Well done.
For this question, we're opening things up to your entire house.
This last question is worth thirty points.
If the top answer amongst all of them is the right one,
those thirty points will be added to your team's score.
And here's the question,
"joining forces with Professor McGonagall to protect Hogwarts,
Professor Flitwick, Professor Slughorn,
and Molly Weasley were seen casting shielding spells into the sky.
Which of these was not one of the spells they used?
A, Potego Maxima,
B, Repello Inimicum,
C, Armoro Invulnera,
or D, Fianto Duri?"
The votes are in and the top answer was "C."
- You've added thirty points. - Thank you so much. Let's keep that up.
Well done. We are just getting started here.
Lots more of our Harry Potter: Hogwarts Tournament of Houses
after this.
Welcome back to Harry Potter: Hogwarts Tournament of Houses.
And this is The World of Harry Potter round.
Ravenclaw have already played and scored sixty points.
And now, Slytherin, it's your turn to rack up some points.
Let's find out which film you'll be dealing with.
The Chamber of Secrets.
Remember, everybody including you at home,
the first question is about something you will see, so really pay attention.
Are you going somewhere?
Uh, well, yes, um, urgent call, unavoidable. Uh, gotta go.
What about my sister?
Well, um, as to that most unfortunate. No one regrets more than I.
You're the Defense Against the Dark Arts, teacher.
You can't go now.
Well, I must say, when I took the job,
there was nothing in the job description about...
You're running away? After all that stuff you did in your books?
- Books can be misleading. - You wrote them.
My dear boy, do use your common sense?
My books wouldn't have sold half as well
if people didn't think I'd done all those things.
You're a fraud.
What did we see Professor Lockhart put in his bag?
- He's very vain and he loves his hair. - Yes.
Which I thought was his own until this clip,
when we saw him put a wig into the bag.
- I agree. Let's go wig. - Let's see if you're right.
You can't go now.
Well, I must say, when I took the job,
there was nothing in the job description...
Ten points to Slytherin. Very good.
So, Michelle, you look like a very sweet person.
So, what brings you to Slytherin in particular?
So Slytherin house was for me a little aspirational as a kid
because I saw all of these Slytherin characters with,
like, their dark, mystique, and their power and they...
They're kinda cool, aren't they?
And then, in the movies, they have fabulous hair and...
- Yeah. - So, now we're here.
Very good. And now, here's question two for twenty points.
"The first time we met famed author Gilderoy Lockhart,
he was doing a book signing at which shop in Diagon Alley?
A, The Magic Quill, B, Obscurus Books,
C, Flourish and Blotts,
or D, Filch's Fish and Chips."
We know that Gilderoy Lockhart's books are bestsellers,
so they wouldn't be that obscure. So, I think we can rule out B.
Yeah. Flourish and Blotts is definitely the place to go.
- C. Flourish and Blotts. - So, let's see if you're right.
You are correct. It was Flourish and Blotts.
Another twenty points for Slytherin.
And now, this third question is just for all of you up there
in the Slytherin house seats.
"In his class, Lockhart quizzed his students on how well they knew him.
In the book, The Chamber of Secrets,
which was not one of the things he asked them about?
A, his favorite food.
B, his favorite color.
C, his greatest achievement.
Or D, his ideal birthday gift?"
The votes are in and their top answer was A.
Correct.
- Yeah. - Very good.
Excellent. So, an extra thirty points.
