Well, finally, I've arrived.
Tonight, I take my rightful place
in the world of "Harry Potter,"
and you're coming with me.
This is "Harry Potter: Hogwarts Tournament of Houses"!
I'm Dame Helen Mirren, but you can call me Helen.
Now, why are we all here tonight?
Because J.K. Rowling's novels
about a young wizard named Harry
have of course become a global phenomenon.
20 years ago this month,
the first film featuring a certain
bespectacled boy wizard hit the theaters.
And well, the world would never be the same again.
You know, we've assembled some of the world's
biggest "Harry Potter" fans.
And across our epic tournament,
they'll compete house versus house.
I promise you, the victorious team will win prizes galore,
but the greatest honor for the winning team will be this.
Harry Potter: Hogwarts Tournament of Houses Trophy.
This evening's contest is a classic battle of courage
and steely nerve versus hard work and dedication.
It's Team Gryffindor versus Team Hufflepuff.
For our first order of business,
we need to select six contestants from out there
to represent tonight's two houses.
And we are of course going to do that, well, how else?
"Harry Potter" style.
Oh, that was fun.
So we begin with team Gryffindor.
Sofia,
Trey,
and Brittany.
Representing Hufflepuff, Adriana,
Luke, and last is David.
Players, take your places.
This promises to be a fierce competition.
So given that this is the 20th anniversary of the first film,
I'm curious, Trey, what were you doing 20 years ago?
I was the exact same age as Harry,
when he got his letter in the first film.
Since that day, like, I never looked back.
I breathe "Harry Potter."
I heard a little rumor about your social media channels.
My main social media platform is @iamblackharry on Instagram.
No. Really? @iamblackharry?
Yes, ma'am. I love the series.
And so we just kind of wanted to make a safe space
for that diversity. So where everybody can say,
"Hey, I want a piece of the magic."
I can look like a character. I can be a character.
We've just been striving to be that since then.
That's great. That's great.
And, you know, it's a manifestation
of how incredibly universal the "Harry Potter" stories are.
- Yes, ma'am. - So Luke...
- Hello. - Tell us about yourself.
Well, I currently live in New York with my husband
and our two cats, Bradley Cooper and Donatella.
And what makes you a Hufflepuff do you think?
I'm very much driven by the relationships in my life.
Friendships, meeting new people.
It's a huge Hufflepuff trait. We just love people.
Good luck. Great to meet you.
So let's get right into it, shall we, with round one.
The World of Harry Potter.
In this first round, we're going to show each house
a scene from one of the "Harry Potter" films.
The first question is worth 10 points,
the second is worth 20 points,
and the third is worth 30 points.
Team Gryffindor, you're up first.
Your classic moment is from "The Goblet of Fire."
Now, the first question we'll be asking is simply
about something you're going to see in the scene.
- Harry! - Harry Potter.
Harry, did you put your name in the Goblet of Fire?
No, sir.
You asked one of the older students to do it for you?
No, sir.
- You're absolutely sure? - Yes, sir.
But of course he is lying.
The hell is! The Goblet of Fire
is an exceptionally powerful magical object.
Only an exceptionally powerful Confundus Charm
could have hoodwinked it.
Magic way beyond the talents of a fourth year.
You seem to have given this
a fair bit of thought, Mad-Eye.
Team Gryffindor,
when the larger than life half giant,
Madame Olympe Maxime enters the room,
what did she swat with her hand?
She was really tall.
So she's bound to run into something.
I'm thinking a hanging...
- Like chandelier. - Chandelier lamp.
Like, a light fixture. A light fixture.
Yeah. So that makes sense? We're all agreed?
Yeah.
Our final answer is a light fixture.
Let's see if you're right.
But of course he is lying.
You are correct.
We have our first points.
Ten points for Gryffindor.
Sofia, tell me all about yourself.
Well, I'm the youngest.
I'm 15, so I'm a sophomore in high school.
I actually read all the books by myself when I was six.
- Did you really? - Yes.
So when you got yourself immersed in those stories,
which character did you most sort of identify with?
Ginevra Weasley. She's sassy, has a great sense of humor,
athletic, she's a great Quidditch player.
So do you feel like her standing up here?
- Sort of, yeah. - Do you feel sassy?
Yeah.
Good. So are you ready for question two?
- Yes. - Yes.
Yes, we are.
The tournament's second task involved rescuing
enchanted hostages from the Merpeople
who lived under the lake.
Was it...
If we had to think about a shark,
we're thinking, like, this, like, aggressive creature.
- Yeah. - Who fits that aggressive role
- more than Viktor Krum? - Okay.
Let's see if you're right.
And you are correct.
Excellent. That's points 20 points. Good.
So those first two questions were for you as a team,
but now the pressure is off you three.
Because we're opening things up to your entire house.
If the top answer amongst all of them is the right one,
this last question is worth 30 points.
Here's the question.
Was it...
So their votes are in, and their top answer was B.
And you are correct. Well done.
Another 30 points for Team Gryffindor.
So you've scored a total of 60 points.
We're just getting started here.
It's just the beginning.
There's lots more of our "Harry Potter:
Hogwarts Tournament of Houses" after this short spell.
Welcome back to "Harry Potter:
Hogwarts Tournament of Houses."
And yes, if you are wondering that actually is the actual
Sorting Hat from the "Harry Potter" films.
We're still in round one, the World of Harry Potter.
So far, Gryffindor have 60 points.
And now, Hufflepuff, pay attention.
It's your turn to put some points on the board.
Your scene will be from "The Prisoner of Azkaban."
First question is observational.
So pay close attention.
Expecto patronum.
Expecto... expecto...
expect...
In that clip we saw two roman numerals on one of the candles.
Which number was on the bottom?
Wow.
Well, I do remember seeing VIII, which is eight.
- Okay. - I assume the next one
would be either go down one,
- it'd be seven. - Yeah.
Or if it's gonna go up one... I think...
I think we ought go with roman numeral nine.
David, listen, let's go for it.
I'm very impressed.
It is roman numeral nine, which is IX.
Let's see if you're right.
All right.
- David. - Ten points for Hufflepuff.
David and the team were correct.
So David, tell me a bit about yourself.
I'm 77, and I'm retired.
- Retirement is great, folks. - Yes, it is.
And what is your obsession with "Harry Potter?"
First of all, I should say that I got into them
because my wife is a school librarian.
And there was a gossip,
"Hey, there's these great books that gets kids to read."
And so I started reading the books
when only the first one was out.
I think we're gonna have a lot of competition from you.
Now, here's question two for 20 points.
When he was a student,
Lupin and his friends created the Marauder's Map,
