So we got Roman, the owner,

who was the first really wealthy guy to come into English football.

He now has more pure cash than anyone in the world.

His wealth is now greater than the yearly product of 158 countries.

And he wanted to make Chelsea the best club in Europe.

So we started to look at getting a coach

who could really bring success.

José! José!

The objective was… was very clear.

Win the Premier League.

The biggest rivals was a team of invincibles.

History has been made.

Arsenal have gone through an entire league campaign

without losing.

Then I was going against the biggest club in England, Manchester United.

Manchester United are champions of England

for the eighth time in eleven seasons.

And Chelsea at this time had…

Zero Premier Leagues.

So we had to fight against the ghosts.

And the ghosts were, Chelsea's never going to win.

He's gonna need time, like his team,

to get to the culture of our English game.

It is a different league. This is a tough league in which to manage.

I was thinking about, this is Arsenal, and this is Manchester United.

We have to be different than them.

So I wanted players that could give Chelsea a different football idea.

I liked some of the Chelsea players. A lot.

And I knew that we had the financial power to attack the market.

So I started to build the puzzle.

Unveiled today, three players who cost a combined £24 million.

We signed Arjen Robben and Petr Čech.

That was pretty much all I wanted to hear.

Then I did bring two players from Portugal.

Paulo Ferreira and Ricardo Carvalho.

I remember perfectly, I called my wife and said,
