The first 200 lines.
- This series contains themes and images of a sexual nature.
Fuse does not endorse the products
or services featured in this episode,
but I do, so use 'em at your own risk,
if you're into that kind of thing.
How many of your dicks are in the world?
There's a whole lot out there.
That's actually a good question.
- It's just they're probably in someone house down the hill.
- There's thousands of my dicks out there in the world.
Thousands of your dick, okay.
I'm Weezy, join me as we go coast to coast
in search of the baddest bosses behind the business of sex.
Dive in with me as we explore
sexual wellness and positivity.
From the boardroom.
To the bedroom.
Don't look at mom.
So enjoy the ride,
because sex sells.
To use or to not use a sex toy.
Is that even a question?
We all know creators make mad money from these sex toys
and they make people very happy.
So I'm about to dig into this for the people
and my retirement plan.
You know, Stasi, like since you've been doing PR for me,
a lot of people are hitting me up.
I feel like sex toy brands
are wanting me to just like do a paid post for them.
But I'm starting to be like,
why wouldn't I just post my own?
I should have my name on the box, you know what I'm saying?
- What are you thinking in terms of like something
that would feel right for you?
- I don't know, It's like really hard for me
to just come up with something on this product.
Like, why isn't there someone that just makes a good sex toy
that could just like slap my name on?
Yeah, I know a company.
- You know her company? - Yeah.
- I think she might already have a sex product.
Or at least, at minimum, she can just show you
what she has going on and you can at least get some ideas.
- Mm, so you brought me over here for this tea
because what's your cut about to be?
We can talk about that later.
Civil engineer by day,
premium sex toy creator also by day,
Raven Faber founded EngErotics to help create premium,
safer intimacy devices that'll make you come the right way.
- Jamal and I have really been talking
about me kind of just branding
into something that's tangible, which is sex toys,
and you're the queen of them.
Oh, thank you.
- I mean, I don't really know anyone else
that engineered their own vibrators.
I get that a lot.
Before there was a name for sex tech,
like I was really interested in how engineering
and sex stuff might cross.
You know, when I was a kid I would get into trouble
'cause I'd take things apart,
but I wouldn't necessarily like remember
how to put 'em back together.
So when you got your degree,
how long after obtaining it were you like,
"Yeah, I wanna make vibrators"?
That's a good question.
So I started working on a master's degree
in civil engineering.
And so during that time, I went to a sex toy party,
and I had a lot of fun,
and I spent money that I didn't have.
Like, I was like, "Yeah, this is amazing."
- Yeah, they get you. - They really do.
They really do, and I hadn't really been
to anything like that before,
and so I started doing sex toy parties.
And I was like, "Okay, well let me do this for a hot minute.
I'm gonna do it while I'm in graduate school,
and then after grad school I'll get my big-girl job."
- It's like stripping to pay for college.
- I mean, yeah, yeah, essentially.
So I'm working as an engineer after grad school
and I'm still doing sex toy parties.
And I like, you know, I did that for about maybe a decade.
It seemed to make sense to me at the time.
Like, "Okay, well I need to start a company."
- Did you decide to make it because you saw
that there was like a gap in the market for whether it be,
I don't know, maybe woman-owned sex toy companies?
I did, I did.
There wasn't really anybody who looked like me.
All I know is I had 2,000 bucks and a lot of optimism.
- That's it? - That's it, that's it.
Girl, I had to make it work.
If you would've told me seven years ago
that I was gonna end up here, I would've laughed.
Like, because I did not even, like, I had no clue.
Tell me about some of the products
you offer on your site.
- Okay, so the things that we have here for you today
are our Soaking Sand Bath Shots,
our Oh!Nectar Massage Oil,
our Body Polish, which is a sugar scrub.
- I love body polish! - Good, good.
You're gonna love this one.
And all of those are CBD infused.
All of them use CBD isolate,
we don't use any THC
'cause, you know, we've always been e-com.
And then, of course, we have a couple
of vibrators for you too.
- So am I about to try all of those in the bathtub with you?
I mean, I hope so, with me?
I mean, am I invited?
You're coming with me.
What about women's sex toys?
Do you use any?
- No. - You don't use sex toys?
And someone stopped you on the street and said,
"You wanna talk about sex?"
And you were like, "Yeah."
So this isn't the first time a woman's drawn me a bath,
but it is the first time I've been in like a CBD bath.
You started with vibrators,
but how did you branch into CBD?
- So CBD kind of branched into us.
I didn't set out with the idea of like,
"We're gonna make CBD-infused intimate body care products."
There was demand from our clients, we had inquiries.
I started doing my due diligence and I'm like,
you know, "There's something here."
I didn't really see a lot of companies offering like,
not necessarily like CBD lubricants,
but CBD stuff for intimacy, for foreplay,
for erotic massage, that type of thing.
There was a huge, huge opportunity in the world of CBD.
- You're not just making the products
that are like directly sex related, penetrative,
you're also making the things that set the mood.
- Correct, because intimacy is not necessarily sex.
So we are in the business of intimate-
- Ooh, but currently hot, I'm not.
Okay, I was trying to be real sexy, like,
"Oh yeah, so tell me more."
- That's actually really, I like this.
- I gotta stay down here for this shit to work.
Okay, polish bath shot, what else do you have?
- I have our Oh!Nectar Massage Oil.
- Oh, let me smell that, what's the price point on this?
So that's Naked.
That's not gonna smell like anything.
That is completely unscented.
- Oh, I like that you call it Naked.
It smells like a really good bakery but I wanna fuck it.
Well, it is creme brulee.
It's almost like the sight
can be the most important thing.
- It is, 'cause without it we're dead in the water.
Now we are in a bunch of stores.
But we were e-com before we ever got there.
Like, we were driving sales through our website.
Now that you're in the stores,
I'm sure it may look better,
but what's more profitable for you?
- We make more margin when we're selling direct to consumer.
So, I mean, if we're like, you know,
you have the same amount of volume
and we sell 500 units wholesale, 500 units retail,
well, we're gonna make more on the retail side
because our margin is higher.
However, on the wholesale side,
as of late it's been a bit more lucrative
because that's more volume.
So if you're dealing with a store owner
and they've got five stores, for example,
and they have to stock all five of their stores,
well, they're probably ordering product by the case
as opposed to like individually
the way a retail client would.
- And then, you'd have to package,
pay for shipping, do all that stuff
if it was just one. - Yeah.
Anytime product changes hands
and like somebody else is selling it,
somebody's gotta make money.
- And how much does this cost? - $42.
- That's a really decent price range for a vibrator to me.
- It is, it is, packaging is really important
to pay attention to and that will inform
like what your price point is going to be.
You know, it's like is it in a plastic bottle?
Is it in a glass bottle?
Is it in a frosted glass bottle?
Like, is it some sort of like unique, custom thing?
Packaging can be really expensive
depending upon what you're trying to do.
