The first 200 lines.

Previously, on "Nurses"...

Take a big breath in for me. Oh, fudge!

Whoa! Breaking out the big cusses.

I thought we were buds. You don't tell me you got a new guy?

I've never seen you like this before.

You're like giddy.

Negative? Oh, my God!

Oh! I'm so happy.

Hey. You look like you could use a drink.

We all put on a face for the world.

A face to seem more friendly or fun...

All staff to the atrium, please. Nurses Week starts now.

- Hey. - ...tougher...

- Smooth. - ...or more on top of things

than we truly feel inside.

People just don't understand clowning.

I just wish the rest of the staff

took us more seriously.

Well, I'm gonna grab a latte, do you want one?

What?

Nothing. Forget it.

No way. What is it? Seriously.

You've just been so wound-up about money lately.

How much is a latte? What does that cost per year?

Well, 3 by 6 days a week is 18.

By 4, 72.

By 12 again...

It's $864 a year.

Did you really just...?

Wow!

Look, I can't afford to be impulsive,

- but maybe you can. - You're right.

Picking up more shifts has helped, but I shouldn't be wasteful.

Pro tip? There's free coffee in the atrium for Nurses Week.

Hey, Naz.

- Hey. - You good?

Yeah, I will be once I get my act together.

So welcome back.

You saw me at home this morning.

Also outside just now.

Yeah, well, it's nice to have you here,

and well and back to your snarky self.

Welcome! This is for you to, uh...

Welcome me. Thank you.

The only good thing I got from my most crazy ex-girlfriend

was this rocking cupcake recipe,

so go, silver linings.

Enjoy.

Thanks.

Candy's queer. I...

I mean I didn't know for sure. I thought she just had

a friend crush on me, but... maybe it's a real crush.

You know what they say, "Opposites attract,"

and she's like all sweet and light, and you know

you're... Ashley Collins.

Hey! The free coffee is actually pretty good.

Good morning! Welcome to Nurses Week.

A time to celebrate

the work you all do here. Nurses are

not always seen as rock stars,

but today, I want every one of you

to feel like one.

So, enjoy complimentary massages

when you're on a break

and our exhibit of nursing through the years,

including uniforms like the one Damien's wearing now.

Handsome!

Val here is a certified nursing assistant

and influencer who will be

capturing what's it's really like to be a nurse.

She'll embed herself with a lucky someone

for our updated social-media profile.

Who's game?

- Ooh. - A day in the life of...

Oh!

- Grace Knight, you'll do. - There you go.

The rest of you, assignments are on the board.

Smile. Smile. Yeah.

Uh... can we stop smiling now?

Are we supposed to be smiling?

So when did you first want to be a nurse?

I don't know.

Maybe when I found an injured sparrow

and took care of it 'til it flew away.

Great! I'm in the ER today.

I think that would be an amazing day in the life,

- don't you think? - Grace, you have

a patient waiting. Matteo, you did time

in nephrology, didn't you? It's a chronic kidney disease case.

- Oh, I don't need a buddy. - Thanks for the suggestion,

but you don't decide what you need.

Smile!

Stay here. Don't film the patient.

Hi, Mr. Lewis.

My name is Grace, and I'm gonna be your nurse today.

Can you tell me why you missed

- your last dialysis appointment? - Oh, because

it doesn't matter.

Why is your sidekick eyeballing me?

My name's Matteo. Mr. Lewis, you know

that missing your treatment can cause serious complications?

You really think I haven't heard all this before?

The admitting nurse sent express bloods

to the lab so as soon as the doc gets those

and gives us the go-ahead, we're starting dialysis.

Tell me why my idiot nephew dumped me here

- like a bag of laundry. - You fainted at home, sir.

Right.

Home health ratted me out.

- Who's that with the camera? - Oh! Don't worry about her,

she's just here capturing our Nurses Week festivities

for the hospital. But she won't film you.

Yeah? Well, what if I want her to?

Hi. Just sign the release.

Sorry. He asked.

Sure.

I want my forced care on tape.

I'll get the nephrologist down here.

I think he's avoiding treatment.

I did not ask your opinion.

Oh, hey. What's with the attitude?

- I thought we were past all that. - Yeah, we were

until you slept with my sister.

Grace doesn't even want it.

Why is Kate so perverse?

When clearly I'm the smartest nurse here,

I clean up great, love attention.

I would gladly make us all look fantastic.

Maybe they want, I don't know, humility.

Ah! Is this the Labour ward?

- I think I'm in labour! - Oh, I'm an L&D,

- I'll take you there. - My baby's gonna come.

- Ah, my baby's coming! - When are you due?

Oh, two days! I think I brought this on.

I had Ethiopian leftovers for breakfast. They were so spicy.

- OK, is there someone I can call for you? - Everything in here went crazy.

Yes, my midwife Mo.

She's the closest thing I have to a partner in this...

Ah, call her, please. I have a birth plan.

I need it to be natural.

My God, is this gonna happen now? Isn't it all...

My God! Haha! Oh, it's happening.

Hey, Wolf.

Kid was found unconscious.

Fever's 39.5. Definite malnutrition

and just bad shape in general.

Street kid I've been seeing around for months.

We give him food when we pass by his corner on shift,

but he hasn't been around lately.

'Til we got a call. We found him in a park like this.

- Ugh! - I think that's what's causing the fever.

Whoa. OK, that is infected. What happened to your leg?

Yeah, I've never heard him speak.

Tried to help him, but I could never even get a name.

- OK, thanks, Caro. - We'll take it from here.

Haven't seen you around in a while.

Yeah, I've been working out of the East End.

Not on purpose. Is Ash around?

- Uh, she's up in L&D today. - Tell her I said hey, alright?

I gotta go. Text me, let me khow it goes with the kid.

Is that true? Can't speak? What about a name? Huh?

I'm Wolf. I'm just gonna take a quick look. OK?

- AH! - Hey!

Whoa. Whoa, whoa.

Easy, my man. I'm not gonna hurt you.

I'm just gonna help you, OK? I'm here to help.

*NURSES* Season 02 Episode 07

Episode Title: "The Ventrexian" Aired on: August 03, 2021.

Alright, Wolf. Come here.

This sort of presents like elective mutism.

So I'm going to message Dr. Niven for a psych eval.

In the meantime, I want you to run those antibiotics

through the IV. OK, it's impossible to run a full course

of pills when you're homeless and on the street.

Wait, he can't go back out there.

Then we'll look in the system and see

if he's with Social Services. OK?

Finish dressing that wound and keep an eye on him.

You're doing a great job with this kid. OK, keep it up.

Well, Mr. Lewis' serum creatinine is off the charts,

so his kidney function is essentially nil.

I've convinced him to let me administer meds.

Then he needs dialysis.

He's resisting, but I can't determine why.

His appointment's in a few hours. We'll get him stable

and hope that he comes around. If he misses another treatment...

He'll lose whatever function he has left.

We're not sure why he's turned against

the dialysis, but he's not willing to talk about it.

And we can't force treatment on patients who don't want it.

Mr. Lewis's choices are his own to make.

- Are stakes always so high? - Could you just give us a sec?

- Thanks. - Yeah.

Hey.

What you said earlier

about your sister, it didn't happen.

Later.

Here. I'll prep his IV. You order the meds.

Ohhhh, yeah.

The pain's reducing. Is that normal?
