The first 152 lines.

Western Restaurant Nekoya

Master, you've taken great care of me.

You have my thanks.

Pardon?

Thank you.

Come again.

I will, one of these days.

Admiral Flugel. Is something the matter?

Now that I think about it,

merely waiting for seven thousand days

and waiting for a short seven days one thousand times

are completely different.

Sir? What do you mean?

Oh, just thinking aloud.

Pay it no mind.

About twenty years ago, the strongest navy admiral in the Duchy, Alphonse Flugel,

was providing escort to a fleet of merchant vessels

heading for the western continent.

When suddenly attacked by the master of the seas, Kraken,

the admiral secured every merchant vessel's escape.

But their escape came at the cost of his own ship, which was destroyed

and sank.

He went missing.

After this, he was washed ashore on a remote island in the far seas.

In accordance with survival of the fittest,

he killed and ate the beasts of the island.

He spent twenty long years surviving

without a single soul other than himself on the island.

Three days ago, after sailing through a storm,

we landed on this island to repair our damaged ship.

We met him and took him into our care.

Yet he seemed reluctant to leave the island

now that rescue was here.

There. That'll do.

I suppose I'll go, then.

Western Restaurant Nekoya

It's been seven days...

We finished our repairs in three days,

then we took the former admiral aboard

and departed from the island.

Will there be a door in the Duchy, too?

I believe there was a Duchy knight among the diners.

Perhaps I'll search after we return.

Three Months Later

Western Restaurant Nekoya

There truly was one!

And closer than I expected.

Welcome to Western Restaurant Nekoya.

C'mon in.

Huh? Alphonse-san?

I haven't seen you in a long while.

Aye, it's good to see you.

But first, curry!

Bring me curry rice!

Now!

You got it. Just give me a few minutes.

Your ice water and a wet hand towel.

Not yet? Must I still wait?

Please wait one moment!

Thank you for your patience.

Your curry rice.

Curry Rice

Delicious!

No matter how many times I eat this, I never grow tired of it.

The sole survivor, I lived on the island,

barely surviving my battles

with its masters, the monsters.

Western Restaurant Nekoya

I've eaten it countless times

since my first visit to the restaurant.

Curry rice!

C'mon in.

You there! What is this place?

We're just an eatery.

Put that thing away and have a bite to eat.

An eatery, you say?

In a place such as this?

Yup. Well, don't just stand there.

Mind taking a seat?

I have money.

I'm starving. Feed me something, anything.

Hmm... I can dish up a plate of curry real quick.

Will that do?

Curry?

Aye, that will do.

Comin' right up.

I must have eaten this dish a good thousand times by now.

Yes. Curry rice is the master dish.

Hullo.

You have as big an appetite as ever, I see.

What? I was hungry, that's all.

Seconds, please.

Make it large, of course.

We'll get that right out to you.

Goodness gracious. Nothing but curry for you, eh?

How do you not get tired of it?

Tire of it? Never.

Curry has infinite possibilities.

Why don't you try switching things up with pork cutlet curry once in a while?

Now that's a delicious dish.

Much better than eating pork cutlet by itself.

I'll decline.

The best complement to pork cutlets is cutlet sauce and beer.

I won't budge on that.

Some people never change.

E-Excuse me—

My curry's here?!

No, sorry. Actually, I have a new curry rice dish I'd like you to try.

I was hoping to get your opinion on it.

What?! A new curry rice dish?!

In my long, deep solitude,

today, too, I think back on that time.

More aggressive and brave than anyone,

her flames could burn the entire world to ashes: Red.

Her opposite, the always-calm avatar of the sea,

who controls water and ice at will: Blue.

The sly dragon who lived a long life, fearing death more than anyone,

who knows every inch of the skies and even controls the heavens: Gold.

The dragon who can draw out the power

of the earth with roots plunged deep into the earth: Green.

My opposite, who controls the growth of living beings and light: White.

And

the one with the power to bring death to everything:

me.

There were seven of us dragons in all.

Simply to avoid being eaten,

we all joined forces

to fight Chaos of the Many Tentacles.

It was a truly brutal battle.

Over and over again, we lost.

Over and over again, we were almost eaten.

Over and over again, we fled.

After a thousand-year battle,

we destroyed it.

All of the beings born after the battle were weak.

So much that they would die

simply from absorbing the weak death magic

radiated by my mere presence.

If they were enemies, I'd spare it no thought.

Enemies are meant to be fought and killed.

But I didn't want innocent beings to die

merely because I was there.

Because I felt that it made me the same as the thing I hated most.

That's why, shortly after the fight,

when we divided the world into our territories,

I took the end of the sky,

which is brimming with magic,

but contains no living things.

If there are no living things,

there will be no death.

And so today, I will again think alone.

Unchanging.
