I'm starting my journey through Brazil in Rio de Janeiro.

Even though not many actually swim,

Brazilians are mad about the beach.

I'm at Ipanema,

Rio's most glamorous stretch of sand.

This is where the extremely good-looking people

strut their stuff.

To achieve perfectly bronzed bodies,

Brazilians usually settle in for a whole day of people watching.

One of the best things about going to the beach in Rio,

you don't have to bring a thing.

There are hundreds of vendors everywhere

selling everything from cossies to caipirinhas.

Today, I'm catching up with Ipanema's king of bikini sellers.

I've heard you're one of the best bikini sellers in the whole region.

Here on the beach in Rio, you can just relax or get active.

Footvolley is a local favourite.

It was invented in the '60s,

when authorities banned football on the beach.

To get around it,

soccer mad Brazilians simply combined it

with another popular beach sport

and footvolley was born.

Time to meet my coach, one of the sport's founding fathers.

I've arrived in Rio in the middle of Carnival,

one of the wildest parties you will ever see.

Once a year,

over five million people hit the streets

and celebrate for five days straight.

Everything in Brazil is big, especially the parties.

Carnival is the biggest party on the planet

and Michelle is an Aussie

who is gonna get me right in the middle of it.
