>> It's awesome to see Project
Runway here in Times Square.
Way to start the season off with
a bang.
>> There are so many people, and
it's just amazing to be here.
>> Welcome to season ten of
Project Runway.
>> 32 models, 16 designers,
hair, makeup--it's mayhem.
Oh, my God, it's happening to
that one.
>> Anybody got a lint brush?
>> It's crazy.
There's people everywhere.
It's frantic.
>> Ooh, girl.
I'm getting really anxious,
seeing all the people that are
lined up.
>> It's pretty intimidating.
I'm just going to have to do the
best I can.
>> Designers, I need you to put
your kits away.
That's it for last looks, and I
need you to come to me.
>> Hi, everybody.
Whoo-hoo!
Yeah!
We're in Times Square.
This is our tenth anniversary of
Project Runway, and we're here
with all the fans, and we're
very, very excited.
>> We've had more seasons than I
Love Lucy.
Pretty amazing.
>> Ten years of fabulous
fashion.
>> We thank all of you for
helping make the careers of so
many incredibly talented
designers.
>> And now...
>> We have a big moment.
>> 16 designers with shaking
knees back there.
>> It's true.
They're very, very talented, and
they're very nervous.
>> Would you guys like to meet
them?
Yay!
>> Take a glass of champagne.
>> Times Square?
Ooh.
>> Does it get any bigger than
Times Square?
I don't think it does.
>> Nothing that can even
compare.
This is like mega, mega, mega,
mega, mega, mega, mega, mega.
>> This is better than sex.
>> Designers, I just want to say
how thrilled and honored we are
to have you with us to share
season ten, so we should lift a
glass.
>> Here's to season ten on
Project Runway.
>> Yes, here's to season ten.
>> Cheers, everybody.
Let's start the show!
>> My name is Buffi Jashanmal.
I'm half-Indian,
half-Australian, but I grew up
in Dubai.
The person who I'm trying to
dress, the Buffi girl, is
somebody who is always dressed
up for the party, even if she's
not going to one.
It's colorful, bold, and a
little bit eccentric.
>> Buffi, is it?
>> Yes.
Uh, how do you say your name?
>> Gunnar.
>> Gunnar, okay.
>> This is my second time,
coming to Project Runway.
I did audition last year and
made it to the top 20.
>> Gunnar, I'm sorry, you're
out.
>> I think what went wrong last
time was that I didn't know who
I was as a designer, and now,
coming back, it's a whole
different light.
You know, I have a point of
view.
I know who I am, and this year,
coming back, is definitely a
chance for redemption.
>> Oh, my--oh, my God.
Walking into Parsons for the
first time...
I can't believe we're finally in
here.
This is mental.
This is me.
>> We had a homework assignment
before we came on the show this
time.
We were to make an outfit that
describes our design aesthetic.
Simple chic.
I always like to picture Cruella
de Vil in my outfits, dragging
a fur behind her.
>> My name is Lantie Foster.
I'm 38, and I'm from Northern
California.
I'm sorry, did I say 38?
I did.
I just recently opened up my own
design studio in New York City,
in the garment center.
I love it.
Oh, my dress.
>> Hey, guys, how are you?
>> I'm Buffi.
>> Kooan.
>> We're matching.
>> Hey.
>> I'm Fabio.
>> Lantie. Hi.
>> I'm from Brazil, I hug.
>> Oh, okay.
>>
>> Sonjia.
>> Hi.
>> I didn't see mine.
>> Is yours the pink one on the
end?
>> Both: No.
>> Where's yours?
>> The black one, over there.
>> Oh. It's cute.
It's my favorite.
>> I design for the edgy girl
that is not scared to experiment
with her style.
A very avant-garde kind of
feel.
Okay, where's yours?
>> Mine is this one.
Some people consider my outfit
as very costume design, but it's
not.
>> It's a lot of, like, Japanese
street fashion.
>> Yeah?
I think clothing for everybody
is a little bit different.
Some people wear to have a, "I'm
a little more richer than what
you think," or something like
that, you know what I mean?
But my thing about clothing is,
I do make clothing because of
"love."
I like making a lot of "love."
Yeah.
>> When I went to college, I
wanted to be a lawyer, and I
took one political science
class, and I looked around, and
I was like, "these are not my
people."
It took me ten years to go back
to school to finally pursue my
Masters in fashion design.
>> So, what's your style?
Like, what do you like to
design?
>> Um, I design a lot in black,
kind of more gothic-inspired.
I love black.
I love using black.
I love black and white films.
I love black and white
