Look, look!

We're in Playboy!

B-Komachi

We sometimes get to be on local stations' idol programs, too.

I finally belong in this class!

I can call myself an entertainer now, right?

That was still botherin' ya?

Of course it was!

Idol

Pin-Up Model

Popular Actress

Do-Nothing Rando

Whenever you all talked shop, I couldn't join in and felt so left out.

Talking to peers actually feels more uncomfortable to me.

Oh, I get that.

You do?

Ya can talk about work just to vent,

but peers sometimes take it as humblebraggin'.

Like, Douyama-kun the actor asked me out to dinner via DM last night,

but if I say that, it gets awkward.

Now that is humblebraggin'.

Busted, huh?

Frill-chan, your shop talk is in a whole different league.

Are ya gonna go?

I dunno. I hear lots of talk that he's a womanizer.

Oh, Nanami, who's on that morning serial, said he DM'd her, too.

Yep. I judge him guilty.

Miyaemon! Get us more gigs!

I wanna vent about work to my peers, too!

I have no idea what you're talking about.

Want to try asking Pieyon-san to collab?

Collabs are cool and all, but I wanna put on concerts and stuff again!

That's not happening until Arima-san finishes up with her play.

It might take a while to put things together, too.

What?

You're done with rehearsal?

Technically, it's been put on hold.

The original creator and the staff started fighting.

If it drags on, we might not get to rehearse for weeks.

Seriously?

Huh? Where's Onii-chan, then?

Oh, he's...

This is quite the crowd.

We're lucky we got tickets.

This show is pretty popular.

What the...

Just wait. You'll see.

Huh? Is this... wind?

A 4DX thing? Nah, it's something else.

Is this for real?

What'd you think?

Well, honestly...

It was fifty times better than I expected.

Right?!

First, I was surprised by the curtains being monitors.

You could add plenty of visual effects to your play with those.

But the most surprising thing was the way the seating rotated 360 degrees.

You could have several stages ready to go,

allowing for fast, seamless scene changes.

Yep. It's a physical solution to the structural restrictions of plays.

It wasn't just the theater that was good. The play itself was great, too.

The presentation was full of new ideas you couldn't think up with a film background.

Yeah, yeah.

And because they grabbed me, I got strangely into the acting.

The story was well-written, too.

I honestly enjoyed it. Really enjoyed it.

Now I see why you called it an immersive form of content.

Yeah, you can't get that kind of experience with film.

Uh, you're kinda losing it. Why are you so happy?

I mean, I got worried you wouldn't enjoy acting in theater.

But I knew you'd understand its appeal if you saw this!

Of course, this is one of Japan's most ambitious theaters.

A lot of stage plays are the type you were thinking of.

But the way they innovate new ways to solve physical flaws is part of the charm.

I'd be really happy if this helped you see how to enjoy theater as a whole.

I guess I'm more willing to give it a chance now.

That's fine. You're a film guy to begin with.

Hey there, you two.

Raida-san?

What are you doing here?

I mean, I produced this show.

Whenever I'm feeling down, I watch the audience as they leave.

Their faces tell all.

If they enjoyed it, they'll be smiling.

If it wasn't that great, they'll look more deadpan.

Seeing them gives me motivation.

I loved the look on your face, Aqua-kun! You warmed this old-timer's heart.

I wish I could've seen it. What look did you have?

Do it again.

No way.

I spotted you two and came over to say hi,

but was I interrupting?

Oh, not at all.

Raida-san, is the script issue going to work out?

Uh, I got into it with the publishers again today,

but it sounds like the original creator's mind is made up.

She wants GOA-kun off the project. Says she'll write the script herself.

There's no way she could. Seeing this play today drove that home.

Tokyo Blade's script was designed to make full use of this theater's strengths.

Even the long, cringy lines will come off great in this venue.

The creator probably knows squat about the stage and its gimmicks.

She'll produce a script meant to be performed in a high school gym.

Smash Heaven had a professional script that really jived with the tech.

She may be a super-hit manga artist,

but with no playwriting experience, she could never produce something so good.

Well, it's our job to help her with that.

Anyway, did you notice?

Script: GOA

GOA-kun wrote the script for this show, too.

He's an excellent writer.

He loves theater from his heart and is a real student of the game.

He gives rewrites his full effort, too.

Whenever he writes a play,

the crowd always leaves with smiles on their faces.

I really didn't want to take him off the project.

Can't we fix this somehow?

That's a tall order. We're not big enough to dictate terms to a major publisher.

But...

You're the only one who can fix this.

You've got me there.

Are they really going to fire GOA-san?

When I compare it to the manga,

I'd be lying if I said I didn't have complaints, too.

But I felt it was a good script overall, which is why I rolled with it.

Yeah.

Both the original creator and the scriptwriter make good points.

The real problem is the breakdown in communication.

If they can fix that, their clashing might even make the play a lot better.

I did get to see a great show today thanks to him.

Yoriko Kichijouji

I guess I can pay him back by getting the ball rolling.

Thanks for having us!

Hey, welcome!

I'm sorry to barge in when I wasn't in Sweet Today.

It's fine. I'm happy to have you.

Wow!

It's my first time seeing a manga artist's place.

Yeah, same...

Well, I've visited several during movie shoots before!

Oh, wow, I'm so impressed.

How do you draw?

This is a graphic drawing tablet.

I can draw directly on the monitor.

Oh, so the process is fully digital?

That's what's mainstream these days.

M-Manga artists are really something.

You draw the art and write the story all by yourselves.

Yeah, I guess.

She really is freezing me out, isn't she?

I mean, from her POV, how dare you show your face around here?

Let's kick off the drinking...

But wait, how old are you all?

Sixteen.

Seventeen.

Sixteen.

Seventeen.

So young. Just kill me now.

Sorry. I'll go ahead and drink by myself.

Sounds like somebody's an alcoholic.

There's this restaurant with amazing sake, and the seafood is delicious, too.

I love fish!

Let's drink once you hit drinking age! As soon as possible!

It's a date. You better not forgot once you're drunk.

It's fine. I won't get drunk off of this.

Hey, I thought we were going to help GOA-san out.

How did that lead to hanging out at Sensei's place?

My mentor told me before...

Every creator who tastes success, not just manga artists,

tends to think they're better than everybody.

They stop listening to editors,

surround themselves with yes-men, and stop getting or taking advice.

The only people they'll listen to are fellow pros,

especially if it's their mentor or someone they respect.

"If you want to shoot the general, first shoot his horse."

She's the only one who can convince Abiko Samejima for us.

I see.

Sensei, thank you for making the time to have us over.

Oh, nah, I draw a monthly manga. When I'm free, I'm free.

Can Abiko-sensei not make it after all?

Well, her manga is weekly.

She had to forcibly make time between chapters to go watch your rehearsal, too.

Drawing weekly manga is not a job for human beings!

You have to be a soldier brainwashed to deal with weekly publication!

Scary.

Only the kind of person who thinks about storyboards while on a date can handle it.

That sounds awful.

Abiko-sensei must be especially busy now.

With the anime and all,

she'll have a ton of color illustrations, a bunch of approval checks,

and all kinds of other stuff to do.

Have you and Abiko-sensei been friends for long?

Well... She was my assistant back during Sweet Today.

She's always been a quirky girl.

She wasn't able to socialize much, even with the other assistants.

But she could talk about manga forever.

Manga artists can get a read on a fellow artist's personality through their work.

Oh? What gives it away?
