claiming he'd concluded some sort of arrangement with Jonathan

that would make everybody rich.

Carter's right.

That arrangement was a partnership,

a partnership Jonathan never honored

after Thomas died of cholera on the trip home.

I don't see how a commemorative medal would have any connection with all this.
