Awesome job!
Thank you so much.
Welcome to this special evening
as we go home for the holidays.
That song is what tonight is all about.
It's about the magic of Christmas,
the power of family and what can happen
So tonight I've invited some good friends
to share their music, their favorite holiday memories
and to join me in celebrating this show
which has changed so many lives.
It has created thousands of families,
moved a generation of children
from foster care into loving homes,
and it reminds us who we are and what's important.
My wife and I received a call
to tell us about a seven-year-old girl
who was gonna be moved out of her home
four days before Christmas.
I was worried that Santa didn't know
where I was.
In our foster home, we've never heard of Christmas.
Like, there wasn't even a tree up.
I wanted to be happy
and not to be sad all the time.
We got separated on our third foster home
and that was really hard on me.
He was, like, the only thing there that I had left
when I came into the system.
So, yeah.
When I was younger,
one time, on my Christmas list I just asked
to get a dad.
It's as if
you're witnessing the spirit and somebody just crushed.
My first Christmas with the kids was
overwhelming for them 'cause they never
really had a-a Christmas like this before.
To see these two young kids on their first Christmas,
I was looking at what my life was going to be like...
...from then on.
This was like a dream come tru.
It was the start of... of a happy family.
And that just makes me feel happy on the inside.
We wanted him to have a loving family.
And we gave it to him.
The day that they moved in, I felt like I could breathe
that nothing was gonna happen.
They weren't going anywhere, and I didn't
have to worry about that anymore.
We just know we absolutely did
the right thing bringing this family together.
This Christmas is gonna be different
because I don't have anything that I desire right now
'cause I already have everything.
On Christmas morning,
I ran downstairs
and I saw all of the presents.
Most of them were for me.
And I really felt like I was part of this family.
Mm.
I have a family now.
It's like a dream come true to me.
I've been wishing for that my whole life.
And when I saw her smile...
...that's when I knew she's supposed to be here.
Having her in our home for the first time--
it just felt complete.
If I could go to the sun,
I would thank God
for my family.
I could stay here forever and ever
and ever and ever and ever.
And that's the power of this show.
We'll be right back with my guests,
The War and Treaty, James Bay,
Tori Kelly and Jennifer Hudson.
And a Christmas miracle unfolding right here
on our stage tonight.
I'm ready. Are you ready?
-Yay-uh! -Yay-uh!
We're in for a great night, so stick around.
One of my favorite Christmas memories is
when I was about 15 years old.
My parents got me my first ever guitar.
And I was so grateful to my parents
'cause they just knew how much I loved music. And when I
just think back on my whole career,
I think that was really when I started taking,
you know, writing songs more seriously
and really just finding my own voice.
And that Christmas gift was such a big part of that.
Please welcome my friend, the incredible Tori Kelly.
You're a vision in red.
I'm so excited to sing this, uh, this song with you.
This is one of my favorite Christmas songs.
-It's got such an uplifting, -Me too.
amazing message and melody.
And, um, let's kick it off. Thanks for being here.
Of course. Let's do it.
Tori Kelly, everybody.
Ah.
One of my favorite Christmas memories
is waking up way too early with my younger brother Chris.
We would get my parents up before the sun
even was remotely ready to-to rise.
