We chilled at Grandma's place.

Rin-chan and my friend from back home came over on the first day.

My family came on the second day, and we went for our New Year's shrine visit.

After our Christmas camping trip, I figured we should have at least one.

Well, there's a lot going on, but since the Outclub is back, let's go set up the tarp.

And so they began setting up the tarp.

First, lay the tarp out on flat ground that will easily take the pegs.

Next, extend the tarp poles.

Oh.

I forgot the tarp poles at home.

We're screwed without the poles.

Wait.

Wait, wait, wait...

We can tie one side to a tree in place of a pole, and then...

Rock, paper, scissors!

Nadeshiko, you're the pole now!

What?!

Attach the guy lines to the tarp and secure them with the pegs.

Erect the poles.

Finally, adjust the length of the guy lines for tension...

And you're done.

Nice!

To ensure that the tarp is stable,

make sure the guy lines, pegs, and poles are correctly angled.

Just having a tarp really sets the mood, huh?

Right?

It really makes you feel like you're camping.

Tarps come in several materials:

nylon, which is highly portable,

and cotton, which is flame-retardant so that campfires can be lit under it,

It was a pain getting all that grass off the bottom of our tent.

And when we finally got it all off, there was grass on the top side.

Rin-chan said we shouldn't need to spend more than 500 yen or so,

so let's buy one for next time.

We'll have plenty of spending money from working all winter break, too.

When are you getting paid, Nadeshiko-chan?

I couldn't wait, so I went back to Caribou the other day to stare at it.

I've seen them a lot on Namazon.

The ones with the thick frames.

Oh, yeah. Those are great, since you can set them up anywhere.

You need a car to transport them because they're so bulky, though.

So instead of a frame, I'll be using Nadeshiko and a tree.

That'll be 100 yen an hour!

That's dirt cheap.

Also, we should find out if there's a cheaper way to get firewood.

Even when it's 300 yen a bundle, you can burn through it pretty quick.

And when there's only the expensive stuff, you can't really use too much.

You know, every time we have a campfire using firewood we paid for...

I see those spinning billing meters they use for electricity and water and stuff.

Y-Yeah, I guess I know what you mean.

We still haven't had the heart to burn what we bought when we started the Outclub.

So that's why that firewood's been sitting there all this time.

Come to think of it,

Eastwood Campgrounds was so awesome for letting us use all the wood we wanted.

I know, right?

Apparently they've started charging for firewood since the end of the year.

They had a post on their blog about it.

Wait, really?!

It must be because you made towers and burned them like crazy.

Burn it all to the ground!

I-I never did such a thing!

They renovated the site, too. It's bigger now.

Actually, there's a new camping place near Hottokeya Hot Springs now, too.

Apparently, there used to be a campground there a long time ago that shut down.

They've set up a new one at the same place.

We won't have to go far for the hot springs next time, then.

And we can buy fried hot spring eggs much more easily, Aki-chan.

Lightly salted, crispy, creamy, fried hot spring eggs!

Add a dab of soy sauce, and have your fried hot spring eggs with rice!

Oh, no... I'm having flashbacks about the crispy creaminess...

I was looking for sleeping bags for dogs when I stumbled upon this.

Before I knew it, it was in my cart.

But it's really elaborately made.

The poles attach with shock cords, making setup a breeze.

A dome tent with clip-on poles that comes with a fly sheet...

The fly sheet features ventilation holes that provide great breathability.

And the accessory poles make a tarp.

Wow, this thing is way better than some of the cheaper human tents out there.

So what about a tent for you?
