The first 200 lines.

Hello, everyone. Welcome to Sketchbook.

I'm Yu Hui Yeol.

Spring is in full swing.

Doesn't time fly by so quickly?

It doesn't really feel like spring right now though.

Because of fine dust as well as yellow dust,

we're not able to enjoy spring to the fullest at the moment.

But there's something we can always enjoy at this time of the year.

I'm referring to songs about spring.

This song I'm about to introduce is perfect for this time of the year.

Whenever I hear this song,

I think of the famous line from the movie we all know.

It's one of the things I really want to hear from a woman.

"Do you want to come in for a bowl of ramyeon?"

This song was the main soundtrack of...

"One Fine Spring Day", featuring Lee Young Ae and Yoo Ji Tae.

The line encapsulated the feeling of excitement and heartache,

but it insinuates lustful desires these days.

We all love this line.

All right. Let me introduce today's first guest.

Her voice is absolutely unique and irresistible.

I know that many women want to become like her.

She's also the vocalist who sang this song.

Please give it up for the vocalist of Jaurim, Kim Yu Na.

She looks divine every time I see her.

She's the vocalist of Jaurim, one of Korea's best vocalists.

Kim Yu Na is here. Welcome to the show!

Nice to meet you, everyone!

Well...

By the way, Yu Na. I haven't seen you in ages,

but you haven't changed at all.

- Well... - How can you not age at all?

I must say that you haven't aged much, either.

- You think so? - Yes.

As you know, I've known you since I was a young girl.

What are you talking about now?

I'm a lot younger than you, aren't I?

What are you talking about, big sister?

I think that people have preconceived ideas about Yu Na.

The first thing must be her charisma. You exude strong charisma,

so many people must find it difficult to approach you.

Do I look scary to you?

- No, right? - You're scaring them now.

- Am I scary? - That's better.

When you meet someone and hear that you're very charismatic,

you're going to ask, "Am I scary?"

I'm super easy-going though.

Okay.

- So, I hope that you feel... - You can...

- comfortable with me. - actually be pretty goofy.

My husband has my number saved on his phone...

as "Cutie Pie".

That's ridiculous.

- You're "Cutie Pie". - Yes.

Yu Na's voice has a melancholic vibe regardless of which song it is.

Do you sing like that when you sing for your kid, too?

Three bears

Do you sing like this?

Three bears live in the same house

My son actually...

heard my song, "When Spring Comes", a few days ago.

He said to me, "Mum, teach me the lyrics."

"I love this song." He said he wanted to learn the song.

I guess he likes sad songs.

Do you think I'm responsible for it?

Would it be because I sang for him since he was a baby?

Yes. I'm 100 percent sure of it.

I see. I understand why now.

- All right. - Okay.

Yu Na, have you been to a karaoke before?

I actually used to like going to karaokes before I debuted.

- I see. - But...

after I embarked on my career as a musician,

- I didn't have to go to a karaoke. - Right, you have your own band.

I guess it was more because my desire to sing was being fulfilled.

So I stopped going. I didn't go for a very long time. Then...

I'll have to talk about my son again though.

It's good. That's what mothers do.

My life revolves around him, so I guess it's natural for me.

- I see. - Recently, my son...

had to memorise lyrics for the song, "Dokdo is ours", for school.

So he memorised all the lyrics. He obviously wanted to sing it, too.

- There are a few verses. - Right.

- So I took him to a karaoke. - "Let's go."

I said, "Let's go and sing this song."

The lyrics will be displayed on the screen anyway.

So I went to a karaoke after not going for the longest time.

This was pretty recent. Was it about two months ago?

Back then, I was coming out of a bit of a health battle,

so I wasn't sure whether I would be able to sing or not.

- You didn't get to sing. - No. I didn't have any chances.

The doctor told me to rest...

without singing or getting stressed for a while.

I took some time off from singing last winter.

Then I sang at the karaoke after a long time.

I sang songs I used to sing before,

but my score wasn't very high.

How high was your score?

It was 82.

Isn't it rather vague?

- But that's... - On the other hand,

my husband got a score of 98.

I also get very high scores at karaokes.

- I almost get a perfect score... - Really?

- on the machine. - I see.

It's almost like saying, "Are you Kim Yeon Woo?"

- Didn't you just mention... - Yes?

- that the doctor told you... - Oh, yes.

- What I meant was... - not to sing for a while?

It's an embarrassing story which some of you may know.

At the end of last year, I had a terrible case of laryngitis.

Laryngitis also caused a vocal impairment,

- It happens to some singers. - and so...

- It also happened to Kim Yeon Woo. - That's right.

A month after I got laryngitis, he also had it...

- during his performance. - He had a hard time.

He's gotten much better now.

I'm so glad to hear that.

- He cancelled many concerts, - I was worried about him.

so he had a hard time, but he's well and preparing to record an album.

- I'm very glad to hear that. - How about you?

What I went through is...

one of the top three moments when my life was at risk.

I thought I had to retire because of it.

You thought your time was up.

I went through a difficult period both physically and mentally,

but I think I'm 85 percent back to being healthy.

- You're not completely well, - Not yet.

but when we heard you sing a moment ago,

I didn't notice any difference at all.

That's good.

Let's give her a round of applause to encourage her to get well.

Thank you.

When I ask people who are invited to the show...

with whom they'd like to collaborate,

many of them say Kim Yu Na.

- I did some background research... - I see.

and found out you've worked with two most popular singers out of many.

- Who are they? - G-Dragon and Yu Hui Yeol.

I see.

They're very popular.

Do you choose singers to work with based on their looks?

Their good looks.

That's the only thing I share in common with G-Dragon.

You are right.

How did you start working with G-Dragon?

Aren't we going to talk more about the looks?

I feel embarrassed...

- to continue. - I see.

I'm a fan of BIGBANG.

- I like them. - Okay.

- I like music regardless of genre, - I see.

so I listen to the sample when someone asks to work with me.

If I think I can do a good job while working with them,

and if I like their music, I proceed to collaborate with them.

"Missing You" was one of those songs.

I was quite surprised...

because I thought G-Dragon would prefer to work with idol stars.

When he called me,

- I asked him why he contacted me. - I see.

He said he thought we'd sound good together.

- That's why. - Then,

is there someone with whom you'd like to work with in the future?

I'm curious to know.

This is usually based on people you're a fan of.

- Right? - Yes.

I'm a fan of Lee Juck, so I've worked with him before.

I'm a fan of Super Junior and BIGBANG,

- so I've worked with them before. - Right.

The person I'm a fan of but haven't worked with yet is Kim Dong Ryul.

I've sung a duet with Dong Ryul once for a performance.

- A long time ago? I remember. - Yes.

- We sang a pop song. - You sang "When I Fall in Love".

Yes, how did you know?

I saw your performance and thought you sound terrible together.

That's what I thought, too.

I'm not saying this because I'm jealous of Dong Ryul.

You seem to match well with Dong Ryul.

I can sing similarly to Dong Ryul.

I sing incredibly like him.

- Really? - Yes.

What is your favourite song of his?

I can sing it with you.

Do you want to sing a duet?

- Anything is possible. - Duet?

- Then... - I can sing any of his songs.

- How about "Goose's Dream"? - "Goose's Dream"?

I can sing that.

- Shall I... - How shall we sing?

- Shall I just start? - Why don't you start,

and I'll join you.

- Yes, I have a dream - Yes, I have a dream

- I believe in that dream - I believe in that dream

- Please watch over me - Please watch

I'm sorry.

You're so funny.

Gosh.

Goodness.

Please sing this song with Dong Ryul instead.

- I will. - I bet you'll sound good together.
