Everyone watching WOWOW, good evening.

I am Leiji Matsumoto.

I originally drew this manga 20 or 30 years ago,

though back then it felt like I was depicting the distant future.

However, it has since become our reality.

Various environmental factors have caused sudden changes in the Earth's climate.

The water temperature of the ocean is rising,

and the deserts are expanding, among other things.

Considering the current situation,

this is our last chance to prepare for the near future.

I'd like to present this show with the hope

that everyone on this Earth can get along and live on into the future.

And now for the WOWOW 20th Anniversary Special,

Leiji Matsumoto's Ozma.

Sometimes the Sun is a gentle mother,

bringing life to the surface of the Earth.

And sometimes it is a strict father,

subjecting it to trials.

Since the beginning,

the Earth has undergone many such trials.

And now they have come again.

The land dries out, the oceans vanish,

and vast seas of sand are born.

Most life survives only under threat of extinction,

clinging to the thin atmosphere that remains.

Nonetheless, some struggle on,

seeking out a tiny glimpse of hope...

in the dry seas of sand.
