The first 200 lines.
NOVEMBER 6, 2005 DEUNGCHON-DONG SBS OPEN HALL, SBS INKIGAYO
("Intro + Rock This House" by Super Junior instrumental playing)
When we first debuted, I never planned to do this for 15 years.
We say, "Let's be together forever."
But we never know.
When we debuted, people said idols don't last more than five years.
I was rather worried than excited.
"If we last for four years, that's long enough."
"What would we be doing five years later?"
Somehow, there are nine people in the group now.
We don't know if someone might disappear one day.
"I'm not going to extend my contract."
"I want to go back to living an ordinary life."
We fought like there was no tomorrow.
We were like, "Leave the team."
"Fine. I don't want it either."
We respect each other's decision now.
Ladies and gentlemen.
I give you, man Superman.
LEE DONGHAE, BORN ON OCTOBER 15, 1986 CAME FROM MOKPO WHEN HE WAS 14
Smile.
-Smile… My father was a taxi driver.
I always danced and sang in front of my dad.
I guess I often said,
"I memorized this today. Do you want to see it?"
One day, he asked me on my way to school,
"Do you want to be a singer?" He suggested it to me first.
I wanted to make money because my family was in a lot of debt.
I bought the third album of S.E.S., and it had the audition phrase.
I asked my dad for 10,000 won, and I bought a disposable camera with it.
It was 20-something cuts. I used up the film.
I sent the photos and received the call right away.
So I took the express bus.
PARK JUNGSOO, BORN ON JULY 1, 1983 CAST ON THE APGUJEONG STREET IN 2000
I'll try. I'm sorry.
Don't worry.
I joined SM when I was in high school.
Among trainees, SM was
like a prestigious university in Seoul.
When I first joined the agency, I couldn't be happier.
But not everyone gets to debut.
I had to survive the competition.
Each day stressed me out.
I wake up the next day, and someone left.
And new people joined.
The next day, a few people left.
And new trainees joined.
My family was struggling financially. I had to make money.
I had to become a singer quickly.
But there were too many trainees.
I went to a dance class one day.
There were 50 to 60 people. It was packed.
Sometimes there were over 100 people.
Before Super Junior, I was preparing for a group of five people.
It was called Smile.
I was the leader of that group,
and Dong Hae was the youngest.
That team had a very hard time.
I spent three years getting prepared.
We finished recording the songs and had the album jacket shoot.
We were supposed to debut on February 25, 2002. Then all of a sudden…
It got canceled.
"It's canceled. You'll be doing this. Don't cry at home."
"Hey, you. Don't drink."
"This is nothing to be sad about."
"A lot of people became successful after 40. Don't worry."
When he said that,
I wondered if it was that simple.
And they got us pizza.
The team got canceled, and they ordered pizza for us.
"This is my only option."
I always thought, "I'm nothing without this."
"Fine. We'll prepare ourselves even more."
I became more dogged.
CHOI SIWON, BORN ON FEBRUARY 10, 1987 CAST ON STREET THREE TIMES IN 2002
FINALLY JOINED IN 2003 DUE TO PARENTS' OPPOSITION
My parents were seriously against it.
But thanks to SM's infinite support
and a year of persuasion,
I was able to sign the contract.
At the time, I never thought I'd become a singer.
KIM HEECHUL, BORN ON JULY 10, 1983 PASSED SM SATURDAY AUDITION IN 2002
I always loved rock.
But the rock band had already been canceled.
The agency gave me a chance to become an actor.
So I already debuted as an actor.
Hee Chul, Ki Bum, and I were starring in a drama.
"I want to be an actor." "I really want to be an awesome singer."
Now that I think about it, I was too busy to even think about that.
One, two. -(camera clicks)
We took a profile photo before selecting the members.
We were told the members could change,
and it was called SM Junior.
Stop fooling around and sit down.
HANGENG, BORN ON FEBRUARY 9, 1984 CAST FROM THE AUDITION, H.O.T. CHINA
See?
-(exclaims) Jungsoo!
It was already ripped. I only ripped it this much.
What's he doing?
Dong Hae should sit down, Si Won and Ki Bum should stand up.
KIM YOUNGWOON, BORN ON JANUARY 17, 1985 CAST FROM SEOUL LAND IN 2001
SIN DONGHOE, BORN ON SEPTEMBER 28, 1985
GRAND AWARD AND BEST HUMOR IN SM BEST YOUTH CONTEST IN 2005
I joined quite late.
I signed the contract in February 2005.
When Shin Dong joined, I was startled.
Who would've thought I'd join SM with my appearance?
Regardless of my face,
everyone said SM wouldn't pick me for being fat.
If he sings so well, then I'd lose my job
and get kicked out of the team.
I was walking a fine line every day.
"Are they putting me in here, so I can become an entertainer?"
To be honest, I had nothing to lose.
Since I was young, my family wasn't that wealthy.
I didn't quite have a dream.
I just wanted to get in and debut.
KIM JONGWOON, BORN ON AUGUST 24, 1984 CAST IN SM BEST YOUTH CONTEST IN 2001
That's pretty impressive.
-They're the best. -(staff chuckles)
-We should cut the top. Let's try that again.
Let's see.
LEE SUNGMIN, BORN ON JANUARY 1, 1986
BEST APPEARANCE IN SM BEST YOUTH CONTEST IN 2001
I was expecting around five or six people in the group.
Because that's what I saw from my seniors.
Over here. Smile more, Hee Chul.
LEE HYUKJAE, BORN ON APRIL 4, 1986 PASSED SM AUDITION IN 2000 AFTER A YEAR
No exact number was told.
I was told a group of about a dozen people will debut.
I heard that from another trainee.
I told him to stop lying.
"That's ridiculous."
How can over a dozen people debut?
There were a lot of complaints.
"You'll be done after one line."
"How can a dozen people sing?"
"It's not going to work."
People gossiped about it.
A lot of people talked about the big number of people.
It's a group of 13.
The final number was determined at some point.
I think that was the showcase.
They had to decide if they were going to keep us.
I was often told we might not be able to debut at all.
"This showcase might be your first and last performance."
I was close to getting eliminated until the last minute.
There were a few months left until the showcase.
"If Ye Sung doesn't impress the audience,
he won't get to debut."
We were told the decision to include Ye Sung as a vocalist
will be determined that day.
We were all very desperate.
AUGUST 31, 2005 SUPER JUNIOR 05 SHOWCASE
Then Ryeo Wook joined us for the showcase in September.
KIM RYEOWOOK, BORN ON JUNE 21, 1987
2ND PLACE IN CMB CHIN CHIN STAR FESTIVAL IN 2004, CAST IN 2005
If Ryeo Wook joins,
I heard Ye Sung might get kicked out.
-So the other members and I… -Did you tell them that?
-…didn't even greet him. -Eun Hyuk already knew.
-Right. Only I greeted him. -Actually, Ryeo Wook
might have been disappointed.
At the time, I never thought that I'd join Super Junior.
I was like, "What is that group?"
"How are they going to do that?"
I expected them to be territorial.
Even if our lives change, I decided to still root for him.
I thought that was my last chance to sing on the stage.
We love you.
We love you guys.
-(in Japanese) We love you. -(in Italian) We love you.
-(in Korean) We love you. We love you.
I love you so much.
After the showcase,
everyone gathered in the house with Youngjun.
-Everyone was sitting on the floor. Right.
And Youngjun was sitting on the chair alone.
He said, "You never looked so confident
and proud before."
He shed tears in front of us for the first time.
"This is going to be your team."
I don't think I ever cried because I was happy before.
That was the only time.
You cried? -Yes.
They said it was a rare sight
because I appear to be quite cold-hearted.
I was pretty strict with them.
I never cried or was ever soft-hearted.
It was a chance for them to tease me.
The debut.
To listen to that one word I'd always dreamed of,
I spent six years in SM.
I thought, "It finally came true."
Other guys cried. I cried too.
That's what happened.
I cry if someone cries.
They were all crying so much.
I felt bad for them.
I was grateful to survive.
