I got a text message for heat wave warnings for the first time.

I didn't know they sent you text messages for that.

So today, we prepared...

some rock, hip-hop and ballad songs...

that are hotter than the blazing sun.

And we also prepared some female idol group's songs...

that can't be missed out in summer.

I didn't say that female idols would be here.

I just said we prepared some of their songs.

We prepared many diverse songs including female idol group's songs.

Here's our first guest.

Many female idols are really popular this summer.

Our next guest is someone who wishes to challenge that popularity.

When I saw the song titles in her repertoire today,

I thought the writer wrote her name wrong...

on the script.

Instead of introducing who she is by calling out her name,

So why did you decide to do this?

I have a tour coming up,

and in my previous ones,

I was too conceited to only sing my own songs.

I wanted to show my fans a different side,

and that's when I thought of...

all these adorable girl groups on TV.

So out of their hit numbers, I chose the ones I liked...

and put them together in a medley.

I honestly don't mind the singing, but what's up with the outfit?

It's a twist on a school uniform...

which you probably haven't worn for about 20 years.

My gosh.

This was a completely new experience for me.

How did it feel when you put it on for the first time?

You must've seen yourself in the mirror.

- Can I be honest? - Of course.

In the mirror, I looked younger.

That I can agree with.

The audience didn't even recognise you.

- I know. - Right?

It was because you looked that good it in.

They were expecting someone from a girl group.

- I made them guessing, didn't I? - Right.

With all this though...

When things are awkward, you should just clap.

Anyway Z Young,

- you debuted in 1999. - That's right.

- Her debut song was a dance number. - It was.

- What was the title? - "Choice".

You released many more after that including "Dash" and...

There was "Sad Salsa".

Right and your most biggest hit, which was "Candy in My Ears".

Of course.

She was known as the Madonna of Korea.

Just so you know, our age gap isn't that big.

So is there a difference between the dance numbers back then and now?

- Of course. - Really?

- There's a huge difference. - How?

Back then, everything was linear.

My choreography included moves like this.

Also, it was more about the power than the feel.

So how about the expressions you had to strike on stage?

My songs may have been a dance number,

but they had sad lyrics.

That's right so how did you perform?

but I sang it with an expression like this.

How can that go with a sad song?

- Exactly! - It rhymes.

How would you have interpreted it?

- It's so sad. - It's like a virus, right?

Another amazing thing about Z Young...

is that she's the queen of soundtracks.

Regardless of genres,

she has an impressive number of hit soundtracks.

In my opinion,

I think she's good at choosing songs.

She has good instincts when it comes to choosing them.

When you hear a song, does it instantly speak to you?

Some do and some don't.

However, I'm more right than I am wrong.

Is there a song that you dismissed but turned out to be a hit?

There are two.

Do tell us.

It's "Dash" and "Don't Forget".

- Really? - Yes.

Why did you first reject it?

- You mean "Don't Forget"? - I honestly didn't expect that.

- I know. - "Don't Forget" is...

one of your most famous songs.

That's right.

- So why did you reject it? - For six months,

I kept on refusing to sing that song,

so it was rotting away someway in my agency.

Then I was requested to sing a soundtrack for "Iris",

but we didn't have enough time to receive a new song.

So my agency went through the stash we already had...

- and offered me this song. - "Don't Forget"?

They wanted me to give it another chance.

I hated the song because of how it was arranged.

First comes the verse, then comes the chorus.

After that, the verse repeats itself...

- It felt boring. - That's right.

Also, right before it ends, there's a key change.

To me, it felt like this was written according to a manual.

I knew that the song would be nothing but a boring ballad,

and that's why I kept rejecting it.

However, I ended up caving into my agency's wishes.

When did you become fond of the song then?

Was it after you checked what you made off of it?

That was a factor,

but I fell in love with it after performing it live.

When you sang it to an actual audience?

Yes, that's when it grew on me.

Singing a song in a recording studio is different.

The audience has a certain aura to them.

They do. They have this energy.

Anyway, I think that artists and their songs...

meet in the form of fate.

Can you perhaps sing "Don't Forget" for us today?

I'd love to.

Right, but I'm not sure about...

- My plans? - That's right.

My national tour starts on August 27.

- Is it a national tour? - That's right.

I'll perform first in Busan and make my way up to Seoul.

The performance you saw earlier is what I planned for my concert.

I purposely came out here to give you a sneak peek.

- Really? - That's why I came out today.

It was really embarrassing though.

The artists who come on my show sometimes...

put on performances that they've never done before.

Some idol singers sing live for the audience,

while other artists do performances that could be a bit embarrassing.

They often say that they wanted to show it to our viewers.

When I hear that,

I'm so happy and grateful.

- Thank you. - All right.

This is the song that almost couldn't have seen light.

"Don't Forget". With this song,
