...Mrs de Trémeuse went back twenty years,

to when her now white hair was still blonde.

Count de Trémeuse had invited banker Favraux,

who advised him in financial matters.

From that moment on,

Mr de Trémeuse had nothing but bad luck.

Then, one day, he was ruined.

"One man alone, if he so wishes,

"can save us: Favraux!"

The last hope.

"I have come unbeknownst to my husband,

"to ask for your help."

"You cad!"

"Yes, indeed... your husband is ruined,

"and I did everything necessary to have you at my mercy!"

"Sell off all the Trémeuse shares immediately!"

Stock prices are falling...

shareholders are anxious...

bankers are concerned...

That very evening...

A bang... then another!

One hour after the dramatic event,

a man arrived at the château.

"to prospect for gold fields

"by a crook called Favraux.

"Swear that you will avenge him one day!"

Twenty years later,
