The Flood (L'inondation)

In 1961 La Cinématheque française rescued the 'Flood'

from the nitrocellulose negative that was stored in her collections.

Unfortunately, one third of the film was missing.

In 1979 the missing scenes were completed with 16mm film,

which had to be enlarged to match the 35mm original.

This explains the different quality of some sequences.

lies a quiet village...

Morning like every other...

Alban Perrin, young and a rich farmer from Faine...

Margot Doucet, his future wife...

Klevetnice... traders...

Mr. Broc, an insignificant councilor...

Mr. Reboul, Mayor...

Alban, a sympathetic young man, maybe a little rough.

Margot, somewhat flirtatious young lady...

Mr. Broc gets up...

"Letter? A letter to Mr. Broco from someone unknown?"

A mild winter morning...

Arrival poor passengers...

"Where are you going, miss?"

"You went cold, come warm up..."

Margot meets cousin Jean...

"Do not go in, the woman has slept..."

"Are you Mr. Broc?"

"Did not you get my letter?"

"I'm Germaine, your daughter..."

In the past, Broc suffered...

The next day is Sunday. Broc is proud of his treasure...

Mr. Broc never noticed that he was the target of ridicule.

Germaine hurts the laughter that accompanies their walk.

But the meeting with Alban was pleased.

After dark the villagers celebrate...

And the life of Germaine has turned into a dream...

In Ardeche, a dike broke through the rain...

The water is rising.

Water floods fields, villages, houses...

Outside of the terrible, frosty silence of rising water...

Then the wrath of the elements recedes.

The next day, after a short...

Margot and her cousin looking at the flooded landscape...
